Sixteen Candles

Chapter 17

Jordan’s POV

Walking back towards the house, I noted that the patio door was open for me. Stepping into the room, I headed straight for the kitchen, grabbing a package of beef jerky from the pantry before taking off upstairs, noting the numerous piles of werewolf dust between the floors.

I already knew that Violet was in her study, the Patrick guy was wandering about in the library, not really seeing the books. And the other three were talking in the music room.

I walked into my room and locked the door. Tossing the food on my dresser, I pulled my shirt over my head, heading for my bathroom.

A half hour later, I walked back into my room, towel around my waist. I noted the smoky figure laying on my bed.

“Beckett’s coming by.” She whispered.

“I know.” I said, pulling out my clothes.

“I don’t want you there.”

I moved the bathroom door, hoping I had heard wrong.

“No, you’re ears aren’t failing you.”

“That’s a risky move, Vi.”

“If you’re there, he may stop drinking too soon.”

I walked out of the bathroom, over to grab a shirt. “Have you even thought about this?”
“Yes. If William and Brendon each take a little, then neither of them should get hurt.”

I tried not to snap at her. “It’s suicide.”

“Temporary peace. Even if it involves dying.”

“What about Ryan?”

“Keep him out of it.”

“And the human?”

“Him too. I don’t want him hurt.”

The doorbell rang and the smoky apparition on the bed disappeared.

I opened the door and walked downstairs.

The doorbell was about to be rung again as I pulled the heavy door away and saw Brendon, Ryan, and William all standing there.

They had dropped the gloves, hats, blazers, and scarves. Wearing button up shirts and skinny jeans. Odd.

“You know the way.” I snapped to Beckett, who glared at me, glanced at Brendon and then was gone.

Ryan remained where we were, but the heavy door to Violet’s study could be heard closing behind the other two.

“Come on, Ryan. I think Vi has a few bottles in the kitchen.” I noted, leading him through the house.
