Invisible
Someone noticed
My sister is home;
she stares at me for a
full minute.
It seems my haircut
really does make a
difference.
"Jackie,"
she says evenly.
"What have you done?"
I shrug.
"Ever the silent one,"
Ivy mutters.
"Hey Dave!"
she calls to my brother;
he looks over.
"Look what she's done
to her hair."
He looks at me
for the first time
all afternoon:
"It's just hair."
Ivy sweeps past me,
mutters something she
thought I can't hear.
But I do hear it:
she stares at me for a
full minute.
It seems my haircut
really does make a
difference.
I'm not invisible
to her
or Eve
anymore.

(and maybe not to
Evan
either.)
