It Only Hurts

1/1

it only hurts when he remembers everything.

the times where the other had choked on his dinner while laughing hysterically, only to laugh harder once the food had successfully gone down his throat, or when he’d given the other an expensive ring and gotten punched in the arm before he realized that the other man was holding back ridiculously happy tears. (they’d made love for the first time that night). or it was the time where they had sat by the canal and confessed that they’d fallen in love with each other, or the time where they shared their first kiss at the top of a ferris wheel.

it only hurts when he remembers the other man’s retreating back, the tears he’d never stopped crying.

it only hurts when he remembers how the ring had been returned, how he’d thrown it against a wall and sobbed into his best friend’s shoulder, how he isn’t the same anymore. it only hurts when he remembers everything that they could’ve been and never were.

it only hurts when he remembers how his heart is still there, but not whole.
