Sarah Smiles

I never said I missed her when everybody kissed her.

After about two hours of hollering songs along to the radio my voice had gone and my body felt tired. I rested my head on Gabe’s shoulder and closed my eyes; the wind from the open window whipped my hair around.

We all had agreed to Gabe’s idea of a road trip. We were going to drive back down to California anyway, so why not make it more interesting? I was sat in a car with Will (who was driving), Spencer, Gabe and Ryland. There were two other cars full of people, all following each other in a line.

“Can we stop somewhere soon? I’m starving…” Gabe’s voice whined. “I can’t believe we’re going on a road trip and didn’t bring snacks.”

Snacks weren’t the only thing we didn’t think of. We had merely acted on a whim, and our little trip was getting far more stressful that planned. We hadn’t planned anything out. We hadn’t planned our car driving shifts, we didn’t map out every stop off point, and we didn’t know where we were going to be sleeping that night. Phones were essential in keeping in contact with the others, and luckily Will had a satellite navigation system in his car. We were the head of the trail of cars.

“Well we’re almost in Iowa. So we’ll stop somewhere there.” Will spoke.

I had almost dozed off when my phone vibrated in my pocket. I let out an irritated growl, and pulled it out. A text from Ryan popped up on the screen and I opened it.

“I’m sorry about yesterday. I was such a dick. X”

I decided to ignore it for the moment; I’d ask Brendon and Spencer for advice about it later on. I pushed the phone back in my pocket and proceeded to lay my head on Gabe’s shoulder. My stomach churned, the long car journey had begun to make me feel sick and my head started to throb. I groaned into Gabe’s shirt.

“What’s the matter Chiquita?” Gabe’s voice muttered into my ear.

“Feel sick.” His hand reared up towards my head and he softly stroked my hair.

“Try getting some sleep.” I nodded, closing my eyes. It took a while before my body finally escaped into the darkness.

“Sarah!” Gabe’s voice screamed out at me. “Wake up! We’re here!”

I remained motionless, my eyes still closed in hopes that he would believe I was still asleep and leave me in the car. He believed I was still asleep, but he didn’t leave me in the car. I felt him reach over, undo my seat belt. The sound of the car door opening reached my ears and I heard him step out. His arms grabbed me, dragging me closer to the open door. Once I was close enough he hooked and arm under my knees and the other arm snaked around my back. He pulled my out holding me in his arms. I couldn’t help but wince at the dramatic light change and I pressed my face into his chest.

I opened my eyes to be greeted by the sight of a Wal-Mart. I groaned again and resumed to pressing my face against Gabe’s chest.

“Why are we here?”

“Food!” Spencer piped in.

My body felt limp and weak, if I was on my feet I probably would have fallen over. I hated being woken up.

My head shifted towards the sound of car doors shutting and I saw the other lot stepping out of their vehicles. I couldn’t help but smile when I saw Brendon.

“Finally! Common guys!” Gabe hollered.

I clung onto him for dear life when he shot off in a sprint towards the store.

I was sat in the shopping trolley surrounded by packs off food. Gabe ran around the isles pushing me along, behind us Sarah O was sat in another trolley while Brendon pushed it along chasing after us. People gave us dirty stunned looks as they were greeted by the scene of adults running around like wild teenagers.

Gabe suddenly froze in one of the isles when something caught his eye.

The shelves were packed with camping gear. His eyes where wide and he had a huge grin on his face. He turned to me with a mischievous look. “I know where we’re sleeping tonight.”

Somehow Gabe managed to convince everyone it was a good idea to go camping for a night. We all reached for our pockets and brought so much unnecessary camping gear, getting excited at the prospect of going on an adventure. We all instantly regretted our decision when we had turned up at the camping site and had to actually put up our tents.

“Why has this got to be so hard?!” Will yelled throwing down a tent pole.

We had all split off into little groups attempting to put up the contraptions. Finally, Will and Gabe had figured out how to put up their tent and each of them helped the rest of us. We all sighed in satisfaction when the last tent had been put up.

It was getting dark, and the boys had made a camp fire. We all sat around it. The whole group cheered when Spencer appeared from a car carrying bottles of alcohol in his hands.
About an hour and a couple of shots later I found myself in Gabe’s arms, a small smile planted on my face. I refrained myself from looking at Brendon and Sarah who were placed in a similar position to me and Gabe.

“Hey Chiquita.” Gabe mumbled.

I turned my head to face him, our faces so close I could feel his breath hitting my mouth. I took in a deep gulp of air “Yeah?”

Even I wasn’t expecting what happened next. Gabe had forcefully pressed his lips against mine he pulled me hard against him. My heart suddenly begun to thrash against my chest and my face felt flushed. I couldn’t help myself and I happily returned this kiss. My arms instinctively wrapped around his neck. Just as Gabe was about to deepen the kiss Spencer’s voice hollered at us.

“Get a room!”

I pulled away and felt my face growing a deep red. I and Gabe acted as if nothing had happened and gone back to the position we were in. I turned to Brendon who was staring at me in awe.

Brendon’s P.O.V

I felt my heart stop at the sight I was looking at. I knew Sarah and Gabe were very close, but not that close.

A bile formed in my throat and I felt like I was going to be sick. I wanted to rip my eyes away from the scene, but I couldn’t. I wanted to run over to Gabe and tear him off Sarah, a mixture of emotions pulsated through my body, and I couldn’t understand why. They had finally pulled away, her face was a bright red and she looked flustered. My heart sunk when our eyes locked; there was a odd sensation in my stomach. I honestly felt like I was about to vomit at any moment. I felt all the blood drain out of my face.

It felt so wrong seeing her with someone else. I stood up, pulling my arm away from my girlfriend who looked up at me.

“Brendon, what’s the matter?” She must have noticed my obvious mood change.

“I just, I need to walk around for a bit.” Before she could ask if she could come with me I answered her question. “Alone.”

My legs felt like jelly, and I found myself finding it hard to walk. I hadn’t even drunk. I was confused as to why I was feeling the way I felt. The scene kept on repeating itself in my mind, and with every repeat I found the churning in my stomach getting worse.

What is going on with me?
