I'll Keep You a Daydream Away

Alex’s P.O.V
One day earlier
I was sitting backstage waiting for everyone to be done. We’d just finished playing a show in our hometown, the last one of this tour. Maya had already left and I was getting bored seeing the rest of my band was still busy trying to find all their stuff.
There was a knock on the door. “Yeah.” I said without looking up from my phone. Matt came in and he was not alone. Behind him was a girl, she looked to be in her early twenties and had long, light brown, curly hair and eyes with the color of the ocean. She was playing with the hem of her shirt and kept her gaze on the ground. She looked uncomfortable and absolutely terrified to be here.
“You need to talk to her.” He said to me and pointed to the girl. I gave him a questioning look, but did what he asked. I patted the space on the couch next me and motioned her to sit down. She shuffled towards me and sat down. “So, why do I need to talk to you?” I asked in a friendly voice, trying to comfort the girl, who looked like she was about to cry.
“I… Uhm… I…” She stuttered. “Do you remember that show in Boston, about three months ago?” She said, her voice barely a whisper. I nodded, not sure where this was going. “Do you remember what happened after the show?” She asked, her voice even softer than before. “Yeah, the guys and I went out, we met a couple of girl and we hang out with them the rest of the night.” Honestly most of that night had been a blur. I remember taking one of those girl back to a hotel and I left her the next morning, like usual.
I studied the girl next to me and then it hit me. “I slept with you that night, didn’t I.” I blurted out. She nodded. “So you remember?” She mumbled. “Yeah I do. Look I don’t want to sound rude, but why are you here?” I asked, getting tired of all this mysteriousness. Her lip trembled, but she managed to speak. “I-I’m pregnant.”
I was shocked, I felt like someone had just slapped me in the face. “Are you sure?” I choked out. “I did three test at home and the doctor confirmed it.” She said softly, finally looking up at me. “How do you know it’s mine?” I wondered. The girl took a deep breath before answering. “Because you’re the only guy I ever slept with.”
Before I could say something Matt spoke. “So you would do a paternity test if we asked you to?” “Yeah, of course.” He got up from the chair. “Then let’s go.” I looked at him confused. “To where?” “To the hospital of course. I have a friend there. I already called her, if we go know we have the results within the hour.”
--------------------------------------------------------------------
“Miss Parker? Mister Gaskarth?” The doctor called. “We have the results. Congratulations Mister Gaskarth, you are indeed the father of Miss Parker’s baby.” I sank to the floor and watched the doctor walk away. I couldn’t become a dad. I was 23 and in a band for godsakes! I was not ready for a freakin’ baby! Especially when the mother had been just another one-night stand.
I felt a hand on my shoulder I looked up the see Matt standing next to me. “Come on, we have to go. There’s a lot to discuss.” He helped me up and we walked back to the car, the girl trailing behind us.
Nobody said a word during the ride to my house. We sat down at the kitchen table and Matt started to talk. “So, now that we know you were telling the truth and I turns out Alex really is the father, there are a few thing we need to discuss.” We both nodded, but didn’t respond verbally.
He turned to the girl. “How much do you want?” He asked. “What? What are you talking about?” She asked confused, her voice a little louder than it had been at the venue. “Money of course.” Matt said blankly. “Look, I’m not stupid, we all know you’re only here because you either want fame or money. Seeing I can’t have you screaming for the rooftops you’re pregnant with his baby. “ He motioned towards me. “I need to know how much it’s gonna cost to keep you quiet.”
The girl eyes widened in disbelieve before turning into an angry glare. “You think that’s why I’m here?” She spat, looking furious. “I don’t want money or fame or any of that shit. The only reason I came here is because I thought Alex had a right to know I was pregnant with his baby.”
“Sure.” Matt snorted, obviously not believing her. “I fucking don’t want anything from him!” She screamed and it looked like she was going to hit Matt. “You know what? You want proof? Let’s make it official. It’s obvious Alex doesn’t want anything to do with me or the baby, so how about I sign some kind of contract that says I you will never hear from me again.”
Matt stayed surprisingly calm at her outburst. “So you’re saying you’re willing to sign a contract which says you won’t tell anyone about this and that you won’t try to contact Alex in any way or form? Ever?” He questioned.
“Are you deaf!? That’s what I just said, isn’t it!?” She scrabbled something on a piece of paper and tossed it to Matt. “Here’s my number and the name of the hotel I’m staying, let me know when I can sign the damn thing and I’ll be out of all of your lives for good.” She spat and walked out the door.
I heard the front door slam shut and I looked at Matt. “You think that’s the best idea? Let her sign that and pretend it never happened?” He patted my shoulder. “Alex, think about it. You really wanna become a dad? You’re touring all across world with the band, you really think you can raise a baby with that girl like that?”
“No. I guess you’re right.” I sighed. But was it really? Could I really pretend all this never happened. Could I really pretend there wasn’t going to be a baby born soon that would never know his or her dad, only because I’d made a drunken mistake.
I needed to make a decision. I could either do what was easy or what was right, and no matter what my choice was going to be it would have consequences.
“I have to go.” Matt’s voice snapped me out of my thought. “You’re gonna be okay?” He asked, giving me a worried look. I gave him a weak smile. “Yeah, I’m fine.”
Matt was almost out the door when I stopped him. “Matt! Wait.” “Yes.” “I want to talk to her first, before you sent her that contract. I need to talk to her, could you please give me the name of the hotel?” I begged.
Matt looked hesitantly, but gave it anyways. “Just, think this through before you make any decisions okay?” He said as he copied the address she’d given him on another piece of paper and I nodded.
“I promise. But I need to know that you’ll support whatever that decision is.” Matt smiled. “I’m your friends Alex, of course I will, just like the rest of the band.” I swallowed loudly, I was going to have to tell them too. I had to tell everyone, my friends, my family, the fans.
“Alex you’re sure you’re okay? I can call Maya to come over.” Matt urged. “No, it’s okay.” Maya was going to kill me for knocking up that girl. She always told me to be more careful, she always told me that one day my sleeping around was going to bite me in the ass. I’d always shrugged it off like it was nothing, but now that it had actually happened I was scared, really scared.
I watched Matt drive away and plopped down on the couch. Then I realized something, I didn’t even know the girls name.

Thanks for all the comments on the first chapter. So, this chapter (hopefully) clears up a few things. There are gonna be different POV's in this story. I'm gonna switch between Maya's, Alex's and the girl's P.O.V. The next chapter will be in the girls POV.
Question: What do you think Alex should do? Should he let her sign that contract or not and be there for her and the baby?
