The Hunt Begins

Dreams to Ghosts... Perfect

Wow, I’d been expecting a bigger blow up than that one. I looked back at Alisha. She was facing away from me and her dog was lying next to her, staring at me. He wasn’t growling so that was a plus. Artemis moved slightly and I looked over at her.

She was stretching and her tongue was sticking out of her mouth. I couldn’t help but smile. Just then Sam stood up from the table. I shook my head.

“Whatever would you do if they didn’t have tables in these motel rooms?” I whispered. I kept my voice low in case Alisha was still awake and was trying to get to sleep.

“What do you mean?” Sam asked, not looking up from his papers.

“You’re always sitting at the table doing work.” I said, stating the obvious.

“And you want to know what I’d do if they didn’t have a table.” He stated. Not completely getting the question.

“You’d be lost is what I was insinuating.” I sighed.

“No I wouldn’t.” He defended himself.

“Yup. You sure would.” I leaned back against the wall and Artemis curled up on my legs.

“No, I’d simply sit on a bed.” He smiled, thinking he was so smart. I couldn’t help but snicker at his little comeback. I petted Artemis’s head and yawned. “You should get some sleep.” He said to me, all serious again.

I shook my head. “No way.” I said. “Not while she’s here.” I gestured towards Alisha.

“Why not?”

“I hate her dreams.” I shrugged.

“How do you know they’re her dreams.” he said.

I looked down. Remembering Sam’s dreams some nights. “Who’s Jessica?” I asked him, not thinking.

No answer came. I dared a look up at him and for the first time, he was actually looking at me. Not like he had been where he was looking in my direction, IF he’d ever even look in my direction to answer a question. He was actually looking right at me, at my eyes, a questioning and troubled look in his expression.

After a while of silence I looked away from him. I couldn’t handle it.

“She was a big part of my life.” His voice sounded strained.

“Do you miss her?” I asked. I know I missed Michael.

“It can’t be helped.” He looked away from me.

I fell silent. I didn’t know where I wanted to go with that. Did I want him to know how much I knew? I leaned back again and looked down at Artemis. This was going to be a long day. I looked up at the clock. It was only 4 pm. Where exactly were Dean and Bobby going to go? How long was I going to be stuck in yet another damn room?

I closed my eyes but opened them again real quick. Whoah. Don’t fall asleep Bekka. I told myself. I looked over at Sam, but he was gone. “What…” I mumbled, sitting forward. I didn’t even hear him leave. I looked over at Alisha. Still asleep. I looked back over at the door. “Sneaky little bastard.” I mumbled.

I put my hand on Artemis’s head. Just then the door flew open and I jumped as the door hit the wall. Alisha sat up in bed as she looked at the intruder too. It was Dean. But he had a weird look on his face.

“Dean, what happened?” Alisha bolted out of the bed.

He didn’t even looked at her. He just kept staring at me. He walked over to my bed and both Alisha and I froze. He grabbed one of my hands and pulled me off the bed. I couldn’t stop looking at his face.

“Dean, what are you…” Alisha started to ask, confusion in her voice. She was cut off when Dean’s hands cupped my face and told me he loved me. I was stunned. I wanted to speak, but didn’t know what to say. “What the hell?!” Alisha yelled. Dean just kept looking at me.

He pulled my face closer and…

“Alisha!” My eyes snapped open at the sudden noise. I was sitting on my bed, leaning against the wall still. Where was I? I looked around. Sam was standing at the foot of Alisha’s bed and she was crying. Sam grabbed her shoulders and shook her.

Just then I understood. I fell asleep and was pulled into Alisha’s dream. No, nightmare. She had been having a nightmare that Dean loved me instead of her. I screamed. Moving as far away on the bed as I could without falling off with the cuffs on my ankle. Sam looked at me. “Keep her away from me!” I yelled.

He looked down at Alisha, and a look of intense hatred was on her face. She pulled a knife out from under her pillow before she jumped off the bed, wincing in pain. Sam caught her. Thank god for his fast reflexes. “How many times have I told you to stay out of my dreams you bitch!?” she yelled, fighting against Sam and getting nowhere.

“I can’t help it!” I yelled back at her!

“Liar! You’re trying to get into my head! Leave Dean alone!” Alisha warned me.

I was speechless. She seriously thought I was doing it on purpose.

“I see the way you look at him. He thinks you’re a disgusting creature. How does that make you feel?” Alisha shot at me. Calmer now, and her voice was quieter now too.

I didn’t know why, but that sentence hurt me. How could Dean think that of me? I… No. I shook my head. Those weren’t my feelings. They were Alisha’s. I looked over at her. Sam had successfully gotten the knife out of her hands. I felt a little safer. But not totally.

“Can’t you see it Sam?” She turned her attention on him now. my head shot up. “She’s using your sympathy to mess with your head. When she really just wants something from Dean. Probably to try to kill him again but actually succeed this time.” She said.

Sam looked at me. I shook my head. Pleading with my eyes. What could I say that wouldn’t make this worse for me? I kept looking at Sam, hoping he wouldn’t listen to her. “Please.” I whispered. “It’s not true.”

He looked back at Alisha and nodded. “Ok, I’ll be careful.” He said. Her shoulders slumped. Not the response she’d been looking for.

“Sam, that’s not good enough and you know it.” She growled.

“Prove that she’s hurt someone before.” He said.

“You were there at the lighthouse!” She yelled.

“Yea, and the only people I saw hurting anyone was you and Dean.” Sam said.

“Yea…” She stopped as soon as she comprehended what he’d just said.

“That guy that was there tried killing me when I tried saving Dean and Sam.” I said, trying to defend myself. Alisha’s look shot daggers at me. I cringed, but corrected myself, hoping it wasn’t too noticeable.

Alisha turned away from Sam and I and walked back over to her bed. She sat down and glared at me.

Just then Dean and Bobby came into the room. “Another kid was found. We need to go and check it out before the body gets moved.” Sam sprang into action right after Dean told him.

“We need to bring them along.” Sam said, putting a dress shirt over his white tee. He put a suit on too just as Dean was.

“Why?” Dean asked, looking past me to Alisha.

“Because, Alisha’s going to kill Bekka.” Sam said, looking behind him toward us.

“That doesn’t sound too bad.” Dean said.

“Dean, seriously. I think we should take them with us.” Sam said again.

“Sam, seriously.” Dean mocked his brother, “I think we should leave them here and let nature take its course. You know, like survival of the fittest.” Dean laughed at his own joke.

“Ok,” Sam said, straightening and walking over to me. “Then we better give her a better chance.” He said as he grabbed the keys for the handcuffs. Dean’s eyes got a little bigger, but he doubted Sam was meaning it. He undid the cuffs around my ankle and walked away from me. I looked over at Alisha. She looked so pissed. I did NOT want to be left here with her.

“I’m going. You are not leaving me here with that.” She said pointing at me. I looked back at Sam.

“Please, take her. I’m begging you.”

“Shut up bitch.” Alisha said from behind me.

“If anyone needs to stay here, it’s Alisha, because she’s still recovering. Bekka will come with us.” Bobby said, taking control.

“I don’t fucking think so!” Alisha said, striding over to the door. She grabbed some pants and threw them on over her shorts. “I’m going with you guys.”

Dean walked up to her. “You need to stay and rest.”

“To hell with that.” She opened the door. I grabbed the handcuffs and hooked them back on my ankle. I didn’t want to be stuck here with her or go with them and deal with creepy things. I was fine here.

They all looked at me when they heard the cuff lock. Sam rolled his eyes. “You’re coming too. We’re not leaving you here alone with no one to watch you.” He undid the cuffs again and I followed them out the door. I didn’t want to go, but what choice did I have. To outrun these people and that dumb dog… no chance. No chance at all. I opened my arms up for Artemis and she jumped into them and I held her close as Sam and I got in the back of the impala. Bobby got in behind me and Dean and Alisha got in the front.

“I did some reading,” Bobby started from my right. I scooted to my left to get away from him but quit. Now I was extremely close to Sam. I dared a look at him. He was looking over my head at Bobby, but when I looked at him he looked down at me as Bobby kept talking. Artemis shivered with excitement in my arms. Sam looked back at Bobby and I looked down.

“So what I’m thinking is this ghost is pissed off from what happened to it and it’s sort of getting back at the people who killed her son by killing their kids, and their kid’s kids.”

My head snapped up. Ghosts? I leaned back. Demons, I could handle, but ghosts were so not cool. “Are we like, gonna try contacting it or whatever the hell those psychics do?” I asked no one in particular.

“No, we’re going to get rid of it.” Sam said.

“Sam, Dean and I are going to get rid of it, you and Alisha are going to stay out of the way.” Bobby said, catching me off guard.

“Fine with me.” I was feeling more confident now, but what about when I see this ghost? “What do your guys’ ghosts look like?” I asked.

“What do you mean?” Sam asked.

“Like, do they look like apparitions? Real people? Is blood pouring out of their mouths? What?”

“It depends on the ghost.” Sam answered me back and then the car was quiet.
