Save Your Heart for Someone Who Leaves You Breathless

oo1.

Why is it that people always want what they cannot have? Renee thought to herself, zoning off in class. I mean if you really think about it, it’s very true, her thoughts continued. People always want a bigger car, even if they just bought a brand new one. They want a better phone with more apps. even if they had just gotten a new phone. Renee laughed silently to herself. And the most common, forbidden love.

Renee smiled to herself, Anthony coming to her mind immediately when the word love came up. Then her smile faded when she remembered, he was off limits. He was forbidden.

Not only was Anthony off limits because he was a Senior, and it was frowned upon for a Freshman to date a Senior, but he had a girlfriend. His girlfriend was Emily, one of Renee’s friends from the basketball team. Emily was older too, a Junior, and Renee was not about to infringe on their relationship because she didn’t want to piss Emily off, and because it was just pure principle; girl code.

Renee sighed.

Anthony Dawson was the perfect guy. Not only was he a towering 6’4’’, but he was muscular and tan, with dark black hair and molten brown eyes that seemed to be able to take you and hold you close, with just on look. But it wasn’t just his looks that made Anthony so appealing. He was sweet, a gentleman, opening doors, and saying sweet things, and just a genuine good guy. But he was even more appealing to Renee because he played sports, and so did she. She played volleyball, basketball, and softball, and he played football and basketball, so they had a lot in common.

He was the perfect guy, but it seemed that Renee was the only one who thought that way. He wasn’t exactly popular, but really who cared? Later in life it’s not going to matter who was popular and who wasn’t, the fact that he was such a gentlemen will matter. That’s how he’ll be remembered, the guy that was amazing at sports, and was sweet.

But to Renee, he will always be remembered as the guy that she wanted oh so badly, but was never given the chance to have.

Anthony sighed.

Walking down the hallway after class he couldn’t help but be awaiting their basketball game tonight.

It was against Clearwood, their biggest rival. This game would---

Anthony’s thought was cut off when he saw her. Walking by in her black sweatshirt, jeans and hot pink converse, her petite 5’1’’ body seeming to float gracefully as she moved. Her long blond hair flowing behind her as she speed walked to her next class, grasping her books to her chest in a protective gesture. As if to keep all the hurt away. Anthony wanted to keep that hurt away for her, but he couldn’t.

Time seemed to slow down for Anthony as they walked by each other, and he inhaled when she passed. Pomegranate. That’s what she smelled like, always.

Anthony’s small moment of euphoria was short lived, once he realized how off limits she was.

Not only was she a Freshman, Anthony being a Senior, but he had a girlfriend, which he seemed to forget every time he saw Renee.

Renee Clark was the perfect girl. Along with her adorable height, she was thin and athletically built. She had flowing blond hair and blue eyes that seemed deeper than the ocean ever could be. But Renee wasn’t just all looks; she was smart, and so completely genuine. She was the sweetest person that Anthony had ever met, beautiful on the inside and out. And it was always a plus that she played sports. Three sports was a lot for a girl, and she rocked it. She was amazing at everything she did.

She was the perfect girl, even if she wasn’t the most popular. Anthony was smart and mature enough to realize that later in life popularity won’t matter, who you are will matter. Renee will always be remembered as the girl who made Varsity for every sport she made her Freshman year and on, the sweet girl that nobody really knew, even if it seemed like they did.

But to Anthony, Renee will always be remembered as the girl that took his breath away, the very first time he saw her.

Anthony cleared his head and slammed down into his desk, chastising himself.

He had a girlfriend! Emily, the girl he’s been with for almost six months! The girl who was always on his mind!

But Anthony knew better. He knew he was lying to himself. Emily might be on his mind sometimes, but whenever he sees Renee; his memory clears of Emily, thoughts of Renee filling him. This happened often, whenever he saw Renee, and even when he smelled her. They had lockers directly next to each other, and he knew she was there before he had even seen her, just by her Pomegranate smell.

From the very first day of school, when Renee had accidentally knocked her books out of her locker, causing them to fall out and knock Anthony’s books out of his hands, he knew he wanted her.

“I-I’m so sorry.” She said, looking up at him with the frightened eyes that all Freshmen have towards Seniors.

At that moment, with her standing there vulnerable and scared of what Anthony might possibly say, her cheeks turning pink, tucking her hair behind her ear, he fell for her.

“It’s okay.” He said, smiling down at her. They both bent down at to get their books.

Anthony couldn’t help but sneak a few looks at the blushing girl, and eventually she looked up at him too. Just as they were beginning to get lost in the depths of each other’s eyes, Emily walked up.

“Hey Babe!” she said excitedly, having at this point been going out for a month, she had already developed pet names.

He mechanically stood up and wrapped his arms around her waist.

Renee cleaned the rest up by herself and stood up, torn back to reality.

After that Anthony knew he had slipped and knew he couldn’t do that ever again. He had to be with Emily, their parents being long time best friends.

Anthony tried everyday to rid his mind of Renee, but at time’s like these, he just couldn’t help himself.

Couldn’t help himself from wanting the one girl that he can never have.
