Something to Believe

It was December and it had been one month that Harry and Cara were official. They were still getting along in their classes and Harry was starting to get the funding and support for his foundation. He was working on legalizing the charity and getting a staff.

It was a Saturday morning and Cara was visiting with her parents. Harry was at home, working, when his phone rang.

“Hello?” Harry asked.

“Harry! It’s been forever since you’ve called!” William complained.

“Sorry brother, I’ve been pretty preoccupied lately.” Harry chuckled.

“With classes or that new girlfriend of yours?” William inquired.

“Both…and how did you know she was my girlfriend?” Harry asked.

“The papers have been reporting on it for months and Clarence House has gotten numerous calls asking for confirmations.” Will reminded him.

Harry snickered. “They won’t get one.”

“She does well with the press.” Will mentioned. “Gracious, but not too nice; shoots them down, but does it politely. Kate applauds her control.” Will chuckled.

“That’s my girl.” Harry said proudly.

“Have you told her you loved her yet?” Will inquired.

“Not yet…I was thinking of saying so on Christmas.” He mentioned.

Will laughed. “Classy…what are your plans?” he asked.

Harry shrugged. “I’m going to Italy with her family. They asked me to join them on holiday. Dad really didn’t confirm plans, so I guess I’ll go with them. You and Kate?” he asked.

“We’re spending it with friends…we were wondering, would you like to bring Caroline over for New Years? Kate would love to meet her.” William suggested.

Harry smiled. “Sure; Cara’s been dying to meet Kate.”

“She looks like a catch.” Will said.

“She really is…I mean, at first I thought I was just getting over Chelsy. But now…I really love her Will. She’s amazing.” Harry confessed.

“But what are you going to do when she inherits everything?” he asked.

“What?” Harry asked, confused.

“Well, she’s the oldest heiress of the Hunt Corporations. When her parents decide to pass it on to her, she’s going to own them.” William said.

“So?” Harry asked, confused.

“Well, if you were to marry her, she’d have to give it up to someone else in her family.”
William pointed out.

“Whoa, whoa, calm down! I just started dating her, brother! Let me tell her I love her before asking her to marry me.” Harry said.

“Sorry, just thinking ahead. Just keep that in the back of your mind, Harry. Eventually, she’s going to inherit all that. All relationships take two routes-you either get married or break up.”

Cara came home that night with the tickets. “I’ve got the tickets! We’ll meet Mum, Dad, Felicity, and Alex at the Inn and then we’ll take off tomorrow.”

Harry smiled. “I’m so excited to go with you. I’m happy your parents invited me.”

Cara smiled. “They love you.”

And I love you, Harry thought.

“Well, I should get to bed…I’m exhausted...” Harry said, fake yawning. “We’ve got a long day of traveling tomorrow.”

The next morning, Harry found himself on a private jet on the way to Italy. Cara was fast asleep next to him. Felicity was reading a magazine and Alex was playing video games. Claudia was fast asleep as well, but Duncan was wide awake.

“Harry m’boy, would you come here for a second?” Duncan asked from the front of the plane.

Harry got up and sat next to Duncan. “Yes?” he asked.

Duncan cleared his throat. “I was…I know this is awkward…but I want to know your intentions for my daughter.” He said.

Harry was puzzled. “I’m not sure I understand.”

“I want to know how far you’ll take this relationship with my daughter.” Duncan said. “I’ve seen her get her heart broken before…” he started.

“Duncan, I love your daughter. I’m telling her I love her. I really want this relationship to work. For the few months I’ve known her…I just want to be with her all the time.” Harry said.

Duncan smiled. “That’s all I wanted to hear.”

Harry smiled. “She’s refreshing, you know. She’s not like most British socialites.” He said.

Duncan snorted. “That’s because she’s not. We raised her as a simple girl and we expect her to stay a simple girl. She’s got a good head on herself and she’s smart.”

Harry smiled. “Thank you…for making her who she is.”

Duncan smiled fondly at his sleeping wife.

“Don’t thank me son, thank her mother…she shaped her how she is.”
