The Ball

That night I sat with Hermione doing work as Harry was laying on the sofa looking a bit down,
“What’s up with Harry?” I whispered,
“I think he asked Cho to the dance but she’s already got someone,” Hermione spoke, I sat up in shock and looked back at my paper for a second then back at her,
“Really?” I asked,
“That’s what I heard from her,” Hermione spoke,
“Oh…” I sat back in my chair.

Harry was talking about Cho… not me.

Then again who would want to go out with me?

“It’s all right, Ron.” I heard Ginny spoke as she walked through the door with him, “It’s okay, Ron. It’s all right. It doesn’t matter.” Ginny spoke,
“What happened to you?” Harry asked,
“He just asked Fleur Delacour out.” Ginny spoke,
“What?” Hermione asked as we walked over to them,
“What did she say?” Harry asked,
“No, of course.” Hermione spoke, Ron shook his head, “She said yes?” Hermione covered her mouth in shock.

“Don’t be silly. There she was, walking by. You know how I like it when they walk. I couldn’t help it. It just sort of slipped out.” Ron spoke,
“Actually, he sort of screamed at her. It was a bit frightening.” Ginny spoke.

“And what did you do then?” Harry asked,
“What else? I ran for it. I’m not cut out for this, Harry. I don’t know what got into me.” Ron spoke.

“Hi, Harry.” The patil twins spoke as they walked past, I saw Harry stop for a moment.

“Hey!” Harry went walking after them.

Yes… Harry and Ron now had dates to the ball.

I was the only one who didn’t.

I sat looking at the fire hugging my knees with a sad look on my face the night before Christmas eve.

Why?

I was the only one in the school without a date.

I heard a noise upstairs as I saw Hermione make her way down to me.

“Are you okay?” Hermione asked, I shook my head as tears appeared in my eyes,
“I still don’t have a partner… and my dad is actually going to be in the band after the main first dance…” I explained, Hermione looked at me shocked,
“Really?” Hermione asked, I nodded and tears fell down my face,
“They both sent me a stupid letter too… which kills me even more… here, listen. ‘Hello Mei, we can’t wait to see how you look on your big night, with your prince charming holding onto your arm. We can’t wait to see a big smile on your face as you show every other man in the room what they are missing.” I read the letter then burst into tears. Hermione pulled me towards her as I cried on her shoulder for a while.

“Are you still going to go?” Hermione asked,
“And be the laughing stock of the school? I’ll wait until the first dance is over then come to you, Harry and Ron to hang around with you and your dates.” I explained and sat back, Hermione held my hand, “I could help you do your hair if you want?” I suggested, Hermione smiled,
“I’d like that, a lot, I mean you’ve got really long hair now and it looks amazing every day,” Hermione smiled, I laughed,
“I’m sure it doesn’t, your just saying that,” I smiled,
“No, really… if you are offering to do my hair, think you could put it up like you did for potions the other week, it that beautiful bun thing?” Hermione asked, I nodded,
“Yes, I’ll do anything for my best friend,” I smiled.
