The Egg

“Harry, you told us you’d figured the egg out weeks ago. The task is two days from now.” Hermione spoke,
“Really? I had no idea.” Harry replied, as we looked out over the bridge, “I suppose Viktor’s already figured it out.” Harry spoke,
“Wouldn’t know. We don’t actually talk about the tournament. Actually, we don’t really talk at all. Viktor’s more of a physical being.” Hermione spoke, then realised what she just said as Harry and myself looked at each other with hidden smirks. “I just mean he’s not particularly loquacious. Mostly, he watched me study.” Hermione explained, “It’s a bit annoying, actually.” Hermione added.

Harry looked at my concerned face,
“You are trying to figure out the mystery that lies within the egg, aren’t you?” I asked,
“What’s that supposed to mean?” Harry snapped,
“It just means these tasks are designed to test you, in the most cruel and horrible way. Harry, I’m worried about you, that’s all.” I spoke,
“You got by the dragons mostly on nerve. I’m not sure it’s going to be enough this time.” Hermione spoke as Harry looked deep in thought.

“Hay, Potter!” Cedric called, Harry went to leave as I stood by Hermione, “Potter!” Cedric called again,
“Cedric.” Harry replied,
“How--? How are you?” Cedric asked,
“Spectacular.” Harry replied, not sounding so ‘spectacular.’

“I realize I never really thanked you properly for tipping me off about those dragons.” Cedric spoke,
“Forget it. I’m sure you would’ve done the same for me.” Harry spoke,
“Exactly. You know the Prefect’s bathroom on the fifth floor? It’s not a bad place for a bath. Just take your egg and mull things over in the hot water.” I heard Cedric say to Harry.

As he walked passed me I stepped in front of him,
“Thanks for that,” I smiled, Cedric smiled at me,
“No problem, you and Harry warned me about the dragons, so I thought it was only fair that I return the favour,” Cedric smiled, I nodded as he left.

Hermione looked at me confused,
“We’ll hopefully find out later on.” I nodded.

* * *

Harry told us a riddle that the egg told Harry, we were all trying to figure it out.

“Harry, tell me again.” Hermione spoke,
Come seek us where our voices sound.” Harry spoke,
“The Black Lake, that’s obvious.” Hermione spoke, Ron was asleep on the chair as I was sitting on the table next to Harry as he had his chin resting on a book,
An hour long you’ll have to look.” Harry spoke the next line,
“Again, obvious. Though, admittedly, potentially problematic.” Hermione added,
Potentially problematic’? When’s the last time you held your breath underwater for an hour, Hermione?” Harry snapped,
“Maybe I could ask my dad to turn you into a vampire… cos we can’t die easily you’ll be able to breath underwater,” I joked, Hermione shot me a look, telling me to act serious,
“Look, Harry, we can do this. The four of us can figure it out.” Hermione spoke.

“Hate to break up the skull session. Professor McGonagall wants you in her office.” Moody spoke, I jumped off the table as Harry went to stand, “Not you, Potter, Skylar. Just Weasley and Granger.” Moody added,
“But, sir, the second task is only hours away, and--” Hermione spoke,
“Exactly. Presumably Potter is well prepared by now and could do with a good night’s sleep.” Moody spoke, “Go. Now!” Moody snapped.

I started helping Harry tidy away the books.

“Longbottom! Why don’t you help Potter and Skylar put their books back.” Moody spoke.

I stood up and lifted a lot of books in my arms,
“You know, if you’re interested in plants you’d be better off with Goshawk’s Guide to Herbology. Do you know there’s a wizard in Nepal who’s growing gravity-resistant trees?” Neville explained,
“Neville, no offense, but I really don’t care about plants. Now, if there’s a Tibetan turnip that will allow me to breathe underwater for an hour then great. But otherwise--” Harry started,
“I don’t know about a turnip. But you could always use gillyweed.” Neville spoke, Harry and myself looked at each other shocked and then back at Neville,
“Is there any around Hogwarts?” I asked quickly as Harry stood up,
“That would be brilliant if there was,” Harry spoke,
“I could find some for you,” Neville nodded.
