York and Mori

Chapter 12- Mori

Mori:

Mori flicked on the club room light. The lights delayed for a few seconds and then lit the room with it’s yellow light. She was alone today in the club. All the seniors were out on some special fieldtrip and Zee asked Mori ahead of time to feed the “teacher”.
“Madam Oliver’s food is in the cabinet to the right when you first walk in. Give her half a can of tuna, and half a can of whatever cat food you like. She’s very picky with her food!” Zee’s words echoed in Mori’s head, “Oh and then take her out for a little walk. She’s been needing a little exercise lately.”
“Where should I go? Does the school even allow pets?” Mori remembered asking.
She moved over to the cabinet in her flashback thoughts and pulled out the two cans. She remembered Zee’s answer.
“Don’t forget to upload those pictures for the next week’s paper when you’re done!”
She totally avoided the question. Madam Oliver probably isn’t supposed to be seen by people. Mori found the cat’s food bowl and filled it with the meal of stinky cat food. Mori called out for the cat but she didn’t come. Mori could hear a faint meow and the jingle of the cat’s collar bell, but the cat wasn’t in the room.
Mori followed the muffled meow to a wall. She placed her ear to the wall and could hear the meow and scratching of the cat. Mori cocked an eyebrow and searched around to find a way to get the cat. On the other side of the wall was supposed to be ground. Unless there was another secret passage way…
Mori then found a brick on the wall that was chipped. She picked at it and the entire brick fell out of it’s space. She started to freak out, believing that she broke the wall, but then she saw a dusty button on the inside of the hole. She pressed it hard, because it was stuck, and then the entire wall in front of Mori shifted and she could feel a draft push out of the new crack in the brick wall. Mori then pushed the wall and it moved to the side by itself.
Madam Oliver then pounced at Mori clenching on her nice shirt, scared half to death.
“How’d you get trapped in there?” Mori asked looking down the poorly lit hallway.

After the cat ate, Mori hooked up a leash to the cat’s bell collar and wandered down the new hallway she found. The door behind her closed on it’s own and the space suddenly got very dark. She pulled out her phone and wandered down the strange space. It had been two weeks since she had been down another musty tunnel before. At least, this time, it ended.
She found a door and could hear noises of birds and a waterfall. She cocked her head wondering if the tunnel was longer than she thought. She pushed open the door and a beautiful garden opened up to her. Vines hung down from the walls and the trees. A little waterfall and creak pushed through the garden and flowed past some weeping willow trees.
The garden had a Japanese feel to it, but with North American plants. She closed the door and the cat pounced at a bird that was sitting in a bird bath. Mori laughed at the cat’s expression and wandered through out the beautiful area. The sun was shining and clouds made shadows across the new spring land. It was only a bit chilly, but it felt nice out.
She saw the school’s stone exterior a few yards away and frowned realizing that she never found such a beautiful place the other weeks. It would have been so much nicer to eat out in the garden than the stuffy cafeteria with Zee and Todd.
“Oh, come on!” someone coughed around the corner.
Mori walked behind a budding flower bush and saw a kid digging around in a shed. It was the club time and Mori knew that it was still a bit cold to start planting new flowers for spring. As she walked closer, the cat hissed very loudly. The kid looked around and quickly shut the door to the shed.
“Hey!” Mori said running up to the shed, “You better not be stealing something in there! Or smoking. Smoking is bad for you!”
She didn’t know what to say. She just wanted to know why there was someone out there.
“Go away!” the guy’s voice cried inside.
“Wait… UD? UD is that you?!”
It was silent on the inside and the wooden door opened. A kid with thick glasses and a rather large towel hanging from his head stood in the doorway. Mori saw a small puddle of water gathering at his feet and she noticed that he was dripping wet.
“What happened?”
“I was taking a bath in the creak.”
“Looks more like you fell in.”
She saw in his hand a sweater that was covered in dirt. She smiled and grabbed his arm telling him that school would be over in a few minutes.
“How far is your home?”
“Twenty minutes away…” he said feeling awkward in her grasp.
“Mines only five. You could borrow some of my brother’s old clothes.”
He was a little hesitant, but gave in when they were already on the other side of school. His towel landed on his shoulders and she could see his brown hair sticking out in every direction. He looked different with his glasses on. They hid his dull eyes and his embarrassed look on his face. She wanted to ask where he went after they escaped from the factory the other day, but some noise interrupted her thoughts. Mori heard shouting from behind them and she turned around to see Prince’s friends. They stopped when they saw the two walking away from the school. The cat hissed loudly when the boys came over.
“Well well well! Ducky! I haven’t seen you around here in a long while!” Eric said with a smile.
“Probably because he’s been in the Tower classes,” Edward laughed, “After someone gets demoted to the Tower classes, they’re never seen again.”
UD’s eyes dropped and Mori’s hands became fists.
“Hey! What’s your problem?!” Mori said pushing them away from UD.
The boys laughed with crooked smiles. Eric smiled and placed an arm around Mori’s neck. He pulled her close and showed her the school.
“Girly, at this girl we have a system. It has been in place for five generations. Anyone who is part of the Tower group are the lesser people of the school. How many princes and princesses have you met? Probably a good hundred!”
“you and your brother are lucky even to step foot through the main lobby,” Edward nodded agreeing with his friend.
Mori was appalled that they were even fine with something like that. She was about to say something, but UD started to walk away. She called out to him trying to tell him to stand up for himself but he only turned around and gave a fake smile.
“You grow used to it after awhile.”
“Well, I’m not going to stand for it!”
Mori pulled out her camera and Eric and Edward stepped backwards in fear. She pretended that she was whipping back the angry lions and they stepped back far enough.
“You tell your leader that I won’t stand for that! Tell him beware of me, because once I get involved with a problem, I will make a documentary movie off of it!”
She imagined herself with an American flag behind her and she dressed up in a military outfit. That was her goal with the other documentary movie, expose the other side of the people. She could see herself as a news reporter some day and she was excited. She actually took a picture of the boys and when they were freaking out of her flash, she took UD and ran to her house.

“Why would you do that?” he asked as they made it up the driveway.
She turned around and saw an embarrassed look on his face. Mori sighed realizing that she probably ruined his life. She took out her keys and opened the door.
“Because,” She said being greeted by Bear, “its sick why people find pleasure, bullying others. Usually its caused by their own horrible lives, but I just hate it when they think that’s alright to bully anyway.”
She grumbled all the way into the house. She kicked off her shoes and the cat and dog were sniffing each other. Bear would have usually barked at the new animal in the house, but he was fine seeing the strange fat cat. UD closed the door and the dog growled at the intruder. UD pulled back his hand that he was going to pet the dog with and Mori told Bear that it was alright. The dog followed after Mori, and the cat made a bed on the lumpy living room couch.
“These should fit you,” Mori said tossing over some of York’s clean clothes.
She was in his room and stole some that were in his drawers. UD looked around the room as if it was an alien habitat. Band posters and artwork dotted the walls. Mori snapped him out of the state and told him that the bathroom was just down the hall. She told him to feel free to use the shower to clean up and to use the shampoo bottle that wasn’t pink. UD thanked Mori with an awkward smile and left.
Mori then realized that she brought the cat home and raced to the living room to see her just sleeping on the couch. She fell asleep on the couch for a few minutes and woke up when she heard York’s voice.
“What are you doing in my house?!” He shouted, “Wearing my clothes?!”
Mori stretched and saw the “happy” ugly face of fat cat. She got up to see York and UD having a little fit in the hallway. York’s cute little doggie ears were twitching in anger and he gritted his teeth in anger. York was pulling UD’s shirt close to him as he was about to punch the scared brown haired kid.
“York! Leave UD alone!”
“UD?!” York’s voice wasn’t buying the name for some reason.
He looked over to UD who was cringing waiting for York to punch him. UD looked like he was swallowed up in York’s oversized band t-shirt that he got at some concert. The dark denim pants made him look different too.
“That’s me,” UD cried, “Please don’t kill me!”
