Sequel: Zee and Todd

York and Mori

Chapter 29- Mori

Mori:

Zee quickly brought in the group. Quinn wondered aloud if he should guard watch but Zee shook her head.
“Sir Carter is not stupid, he knows that you are here,” she quickly closes the door and locks it tightly, “by entering this floor, his magical powers get skewed. He can’t find you. To his knowledge, you just got kicked out of the building by the night watcher.”
Her room had a faint buzzing noise which you would usually hear when you leave electronics on in an out lit to charge. Her doom room had a single bed and was decorated in a rocker look with fun colors and posters. York was amazed on how she was able to get this stuff. Mori was even more amazed on how Zee this whole time acted normal. They didn’t wake them from the brainwashing… so did Zee wake them first?
A knock from the floor sounded and Zee went over by a rug. She pulled it over and a trap door opened. Todd’s head poked up into Zee’s room and he gave a large smile to the group. Mori noticed right away that there was something different with Todd. He was wearing a plain tank top instead of his normal hoodie and gloves. He didn’t have a plastic look to his eyes anymore and seemed happier.
“I told you that they would come today,” Todd smiled.
Zee sighed, “Yeah yeah yeah, here’s your twenty bucks.”
He took the money that she took out and placed the bill into his jeans. York looked over to Mori thinking the same thing as she.
“How are you able to remember us?” York asked as Todd fully came into the room.
Zee sat on her bed cuddling with a pillow and shrugged.
“Maybe it was that we are smarter than you.”
“And better looking,” Todd brushed his hand through his hair.
Both laughed and Mori and York frowned. They were acting like children. Zane was looking around Zee’s room and suddenly found something. He found a comic book of some new comic that recently came out and looked at it strangely.
“No way, since when did this comic end?!”
Zee looked up and he showed her the copy. Zane said that the comic in his hand read that it was the final edition. Zee blinked and leaned over to Todd whispering something to him. Mori and York looked confused and York’s eyes pinched together.
“Okay, enough! Tell us what is going on! You guys obviously know what is happening!”
“Zee did you cause this?!” Mori yelled.
She suddenly moaned and said that she was too old for lectures. Todd then pointed to Zee and asked if she looked like the master mind to put an elaborate scheme together. Zee agreed saying that she almost gave away the whole birthday secret. Mori agreed saying that Zee couldn’t have done this.
“I’m sorry, but we can’t help you,” Zee said getting serious.
“And why not?!” York snapped.
Zee looked to Todd who sighed. He opened the nightstand by Zee’s bed and pulled out a strange looking cell phone. He turned the cell phone on and tossed it over to York. All that showed on the screen was “No signal” and “last call from year 2035”. Confused, York looked up to Zee and Todd.
“Thankfully after the event a year ago, our technology wasn’t ruined,” Zee sighed.
“However, we can’t even communicate with anyone back at home.”
“Wait, stop,” Quinn said walking over to them, “Are you guys saying that you’re from the future?”
Zee and Todd both gave thumbs up and York dropped the cell phone on the ground. Mori picked it up and saw what he saw and looked at them confused. She asked aloud why on earth did they want to come back in time, especially to such a strange town. Zee and Todd looked at each other and struggled to even say. Finally Todd gave in.
“We just wanted to see our parents when they were our age…”
“Your parents?” Zane asked.
“Who…” Mori was about to continue when they looked up embarrassed.
“Hey, Aunt Mori…” Todd mumbled.
“Hola, Uncle York…” Zee ended.

Mori and York looked at them with wide shocked eyes and Quinn and Zane shared similar looks. Todd harshly mumbled to Zee telling her that he knew that they were going to act like this. Zee snapped back saying that her idea was better than that they were aliens.
“You’re my… he’s your…” Mori mumbled about to fall on the floor.
Quinn stopped her just in time and filled in their words by telling Zee and Todd to tell them exactly what happened. Zee was the one to give in and start talking.
“We were bored one day and snuck into my dad’s work one day and were messing around with the time travel devises that they were perfecting. Our messing around went to us actually going through different times through time and then Todd got a great idea…”
“ ‘How about we go see our parents when they were younger?’” he quoted.
“I didn’t want to, but he kept on pressing in saying that they were always busy now, so it wouldn’t matter…”
“So she gave in and we ended up here.”
“Though, he punched in the wrong time and we came too soon.”
They went on to say that they tried to go back home, but something was wrong. There was little to no signal depending on where they stepped and they couldn’t find a strong enough signal wherever they went, even outside the town. They were stranded for a little while until Zee’s brother came for them.
“Wait… you have a brother?”
“You met him remember? Pony tale, library, glasses just like mine?”
“Oh…”
Mori wondered how old she was in the future, but she figured not that old. Did she have a kid before she got married? Or did she just marry early? They didn’t tell her. Zee went on to say that he was stuck for a while, but some how this town changed him which allowed him to pass through the weak signal back into their time. He was able to talk with their parents and after much convincing he was able to get Mori’s future husband, Zee’s dad, to work on getting them back.
“Unfortunately, they came into a rut… a year ago they finally were able to get our signal back up, but that morning when they did so… this all happened.”
“Wait… You were going to leave?”
Todd looked at the ground, “We were and were planning to erase our whole existence at the school too. But after this all happened, not only did we lose connection with her brother, but they can’t come back and get us.”
“That is why you need to fix this,” Zee nodded.
Mori looked at York with weary looks. Mori asked her why she couldn’t help them. Zee obviously knew what was going on more than Mori and York and could be of much help.
“I’m sorry,” Zee said shaking her head, “Unfortunately this isn’t our fight to finish.”
“If we did anything to even open up the signal, we will be gone,” Todd continued, “and the real problem would still be out there.”
Zee told them that their best shot is to not only get that video camera that she left for Mori, but find Stevenson. She assured them that if they found the two items, they would not only know where Sir Carter is hiding, but they will also have a chance to stop the project from continuing on to his perfect world.
Todd smiled and said that they will need all the help that they can get, that wasn’t them.
“If you keep that cell phone on you, it will help keep Sir Carter from tracking you.”
“Somehow our future tech ruins his focus or something,” Zee shrugged, “But once the signal comes back, we and the devise in your hand will be gone.”
Mori looked at the strange phone and looked up to York knowing that they had to open up the radio signals. Even if they tried to hold it off as long as they could, they had to face Sir Carter eventually. A clock chimed in Zee’s room and Todd sighed.
“You all need to get out of here, now,” He said standing up and leading them to the door, “Find Stevenson.”
“And search for the missing camera,” Zee said unlocking the door.
“But I don’t know where the camera is!” Mori frowned.
Zee smiled and placed her hands on Mori’s shoulders. Mori felt that it was strange to be staring at her daughter that was older than her. Mori then finally realized how much she did look like her. They had the same eyes and nose and her personality was similar to Mori when she was with her friends. However, the blonde hair and glasses were a mystery.
“Mo, you’re the best reporter I know,” she said with a wink, “hone in those skills and use them, and then you will be unstoppable!”
Mori blinked and nodded understanding sort of what she had to do. Mori couldn’t help but look over to Todd to see the resemblance between him and York. Unfortunately there wasn’t much. Probably a good thing since Mori never noticed the resemblance. Though Todd did have the same sense of style as York. Todd must be like his mother, who ever she was.
Zee and Todd looked down the hallway and told that them that they were free to go. Quinn and Zane left first with Mori and York lingering behind. They turned to leave but were stopped when Zee and Todd called them mom and dad.
“Please don’t ground us for this…” Todd smiled cautiously.
“And could we have those family nights that we had before? We missed seeing the family together…”
York and Mori look at each other and shrug not sure what to say. They agree and the two smile and wave good bye.
They left not knowing if they'll meet them again.
