Lust for Knowledge

Felix Felicis

I was with Hermione waiting for Potions lesson to start, as it did, I was a bit bored.

“Attention to detail in the preparation is the prerequisite of all planning.” I smiled when I saw Harry walk in with Ron. “Ah. Harry, my boy, I was beginning to worry. We’ve brought someone with us, I see.” Slughorn smiled,
“Ron Weasley, sir. But I’m dead awful at Potions, a menace, actually. I’m gonna…” Ron was going to leave but Harry stopped him,
“Nonsense, we’ll sort you out. Any friend of Harry’s is a friend of mine. Get your books out.” Slughorn spoke,
“I haven’t actually got my book yet, and nor has Ron.” Harry explained,
“Get what you want from the cupboard.” Slughorn smiled, “Now, as I was saying, I prepared some concoctions this morning. Any ideas what these might be?” Slughorn asked.

Obviously, Hermione and myself raised our hands.

“Yes, Miss…?” Slughorn looked at Hermione as I was at the end of the group,
“Granger, sir.” Hermione replied and stepped forward, “That one there is Veritaserum. It’s a truth-telling serum. And that would be Polyjuice Potion. It’s terribly trick to make. And this is Amortentia the most powerful love potion in the world. It’s rumored to smell differently to each person according to what attracts them. For example, I smell freshly mown grass, and new parchment, and spearmint toothpaste.” Hermione explained then hurried back to the group as Ron and Harry joined me at the end,
“Amortentia doesn’t create actual love. That would be impossible. But it does cause a powerful infatuation or obsession. And for that reason, it is probably the most dangerous potion in this room.” Slughorn explained, and closed the lid.

“Sir, you haven’t told us what’s in that one.” Katie spoke,
“Oh, yes.” Slughorn pulled a small item off a metal rod, “What you see before you, ladies and gentlemen is a curious little potion known as Felix Felicis. But it is more commonly referred to as--” Slughorn started,
“Liquid luck.” Hermione and myself spoke, we both looked at each other and smirked as Slughorn looked between the both of us,
“Yes, Miss. Granger. And?” Slughorn looked at me,
“Miss. Skylar, sir.” I smiled, Slughorn smiled and nodded,
“Desperately tricky to make, disastrous should you get it wrong. One sip and you will find that all of your endeavors succeed. At least until the effects wear off.” Slughorn smiled, “So this is what I offer each of you today. One tiny vial of liquid luck to the student who, in the hour that remains manages to brew an acceptable Draught of Living Death the recipes for which can be found on page 10 of your books. I should point out, however, only once did a student manage to brew a potion of sufficient quality to claim this prize. Nevertheless, good luck to you all. Let the brewing commence.” Slughorn spoke as we all went to find the equipment we needed.

Everybody was failing with there potions as Harry actually made the best potion. Hermione and myself were a mess,
“So here we are, then, as promised. One vial of Felix Felicis. Congratulations. Use it well.” Slughorn smiled, as we clapped. Harry looked rather smug about it.

“How did you do it?” I asked as we walked out, I linked arms with Harry looking at him with a smile,
“Not telling.” Harry spoke, I frowned at him with a smile,
“I’ll make you tell me.” I smirked,
“Oh, yeah? How?” Harry replied,
“With my vampire charm.” I smirked and stuck my tongue out at him.

Harry laughed, as Ron appeared by my side,
“Do vampires have charm?” Ron asked,
“I think I do, my dad definitely does… though he said he didn’t develop it until he was my age… and I do feel more charming.” I smirked and skipped ahead of my friends spinning around, “To be honest I’m in a rather weirdly happy mood lately.” I spoke.

“Anyway, I’ll see you guys later, I’ve got Divination now.” I smiled and waved at my friends walking backwards into a banister, “Oops.” I smiled and rubbed my head, Harry chuckled as I turned around and walked down another corridor.
