Because of You

Haunted

She stared shocked as her father walked out of the room, then she just stared at Tracy until Tracy finally said something.

"You really don't have to help me if you don't want to. I don't mind." Grace just stood there until she finally snapped out of it and blurted out, "Why are you doing this?" "What?" Tracy asked confused. "Why are you moving in and getting involved with him? You don't look like the stupid type." Now Grace had really confuse her. "What do you mean? Your father asked me to move in with him because he loved me and said that you guys needed a proper mother figure to help you out." Grace just stood there, she couldn't believe what she was hearing. Her father ha actually lied to this poor girl an she believed him. "You really have no idea what your getting into do you?" "what do you me-" her sentence was cut short as Grace's father stormed into the room.

"What the Fuck are y'all in here blabbering about?! Can't y'all see I'm tryna sleep in there? Now shut the hell up before I make you!" He marched out of the room and into his bedroom, slamming the door behind him. Tracy looked extremely frightened and stared at the door her father had slammed. Grace knew that she had to warn her. "You should run while you still can, save yourself." Tracy looked at Grace, "Maybe he'll lighten up with me around, he's never acted like this around me before..."
"Well your in for a surprise." Grace said as she walked back into her room and shut the door.

That night Tracy moved in all her stuff, completely ignoring Grace's warning. Grace laid in bed with Adam sleeping soundly beside her. She could hear Tracy moving around in the kitchen, and grace couldn't help but want to go out there and slap her. How could she not see what she was getting herself into?

When Grace woke up, she could smell food, she looked up at the clock, it was way past her wake up time. She looked qt the clock, she picked it up and tried to figure out what was wrong with it, why the alarm hadn't gone off. Grace usually didn't sleep in late, but she always had the alarm set just in case. She sat the alarm back down and sat up, she looked over and realized that Adam was gone. She got up and ran to the living room, but he wasn't there. She ran into the bathroom then back into the living room. "Adam!" she whispered. When she got no reply, she heard something in the kitchen, she walked in and saw Adam sitting at the counter eating and Tracy cooking away. "Look Grace! Tracy made us food!" Adam said with more than a little excitement. She stood there shocked, if her father came out and saw this, he would kill them all. "What in the world are you doing?! Are you trying to get us all killed?!" Grace whispered. "What?"Tracy said. "Shhhh! Your going to wake him up! We have to get this cleaned up before he comes out." "What are you talking about" Tracy looked puzzled. "This!" Grace jerked her hands up in a quick motion and started grabbing food that was laying out. "Wait, I'm not done with that-or that..." Tracy said as she watched Grace start putting the food back where it belonged. She looked at the dishes. "Okay, we're going to hide all these and as soon as he leaves, you wash them and put them back, okay?" "Alright, but why? I thought he'd be happy that I cooked everyone breakfast..." Tracy said sadly. "Rule number one, never cook" Grace said, she couldn't help but feel sorry for Tracy, she was only trying to help.

After they had hidden all the dishes in the cabinet, grace took Adam to get ready for school. "Grace?" said Adam."Yeah?" "Why is daddy so mean to you? Will he be nicer with our new mommy here?" Adam was so innocent, he had no idea what was going on, but the question still made her mad. "Adam, sometimes bad things happen to good people, and bad things are happening to us now, but we'll get through them. And Tracy is not our new mommy." Grace tried desperately not to sound aggravated but the last part slipped out. "Now come on or we'll be late." She took Adams hand and grabbed her books as they walked out.

Grace dropped Adam off at daycare and walked off towards the high school. As she walked she passed some of her old friends houses and wished that she could still be friends with them but that couldn't happen because if they found out about her dad and told somebody, then there was a chance that child services could split her and Adam up and no matter how small that chance was, she wasn't getting ready to take it.

She walked into the high school and went straight to her locker. Usually she got there early so that she wouldn't have to deal with the crowds of people but she was running late today and to make things worse, she had to fight her way to her locker through swarms of people. When she finally got there, she shoved her books inside and pulled out her notebook and a binder. The only class Grace had ever liked was art. She loved how someone could put such emotion into a piece of artwork. She slammed the locker door and started to make her way to her first period class. As she walked she noticed a group of her old friends huddled together in the middle of the hallway. She got as far to the side of the hallway as she could and hoped that nobody would say anything to her. But she finally gave up her hoping, she could feel somebody watching her, she glanced quickly over and immediately regretted it, "Grace!" the voice that called out to her was just a little too familiar. She turned and looked at him, and stood staring until he started to walk towards her. She got hit with the sudden feeling that she was going to vomit, she ran. She ran as fast as she could until she was safely in the girls bathroom. She locked herself in a stall and spent all of first period crying there. When she heard the bell ring she dried her eyes and walked to her next class.

Grace walked into her Government class and took her assigned seat in the very back corner. Nobody sat around her. The bell rang and everybody else took their seats. "Today we have a new student, I want you all to make him feel welcome" the teacher said. "Now let's find a seat for you..." "Could I sit by Grace?" he asked. "Why of corse, do you two know each other?" "Yes, sir." "That's quite good then. Now go have a seat." As he walked back toward her, she could feel her whole body freeze. He looked at her as he sat down in the desk next to her,"We need to talk, Grace." was all he said to her
