“Dia, that was amazing!” Garrett stated, being the first to hug me out of the huge group. “I didn’t know you could to that.”
“Thanks, Gar.” I laughed before I kissed his cheek.
John was the next person to hug me. His hug lasted longer than Garrett’s hug. He just kept his arms wound around me tightly. He planted a kiss on my own cheek and tightened his grip one more time before he let go of me.
“I’m so proud of you,” John stated with a stupid grin. “That was the best I’ve ever seen you perform.”
“Thanks, Johnny.” I blushed at his comment.
John just laughed and wrapped his arms around me again. He placed a kiss against my forehead and let go of me. I was wrapped up in hugs everywhere and people complimented me on doing well.
“Dorinda,”
I rolled my eyes before turning toward Taylor.
“Yes?”
“Congrats on the gold,” She bit. “Lucky win.”
I shook my head.
“Whatever you say Taylor…nice bronze,” I smirked, looking at the third place medal around her neck. “Raquel’s going to run this gym next year. I hope you’re prepared.”
“Don’t doubt me for a minute. I’m so prepared.”
“That’s what you said about tonight, but you still got third.” I laughed, and shook my head. “Bye, Taylor. It’s been hell.”
“Likewise,” She agreed before she stalked off to a group of gymnast.
“She’s just jealous that you beat her ass,” Ross commented.
I giggled.
“Thanks, Ross.”
“That’s why I’m here.” He winked playfully.
“Ross, stop hitting on, my girlfriend,” Garrett stated, wrapping an arm around my shoulders.
I smiled and hugged Garrett.
“This is so weird,” He whispered into my hair before we pulled apart.
“Where do you want to go to eat, kido? We’re celebrating.” Big John asked me.
“I want to go to In-N-Out!” I stated. “I haven’t ever eaten there, but everyone says it’s the best!” I commented.
“You’ve been missing out,” Pat laughed before all of us pilled outside of the gym, and headed toward the burger joint. We all got there and pushed a few tables to together so we all could sit with each other. I was stuck between Garrett and Kennedy, but I didn’t mind. It actually made me feel better than I would have if I was sitting beside John. Jared and Big John took our orders while they went up to get our food for us. I stayed mostly silent, facing all of my family, minus Julie and her family. I couldn’t help but feel a huge smile grace my lips. They chatted about the meet and how I did. I blushed when someone would comment me on the routines.
“How is your foot?” Kennedy asked me once they had calmed down.
I made a face.
“It hurts like a bitch,”
“That was a nasty fall that you took,” Julie commented. “Are you seriously okay?”
“I have to go get it checked out by the doctor.”
“Will you be okay for the wedding?”
I bit the inside of my cheek and I nodded.
“Yeah, I should be fine,”
“Did Robby bitch about the dismount?” Maria asked me, changing the subject from the wedding just as quickly as Julie had changed it to the wedding. “Not as bad as I thought that he would,” I laughed lightly. “I told you guys he’s a hard ass,”
“The Nazi of gymnastics,” Bob joked.
I giggled and nodded my head in agreement.
“But I never have to train with him again. I’m free at last!” I joked.
Nick tossed his hands in the air with me.
“That means you can call me more!”
“Back off, Santino,” John replied. “Garrett is Dia’s boyfriend,”
I eyed John’s pissed off expression, and the butterflies in my stomach started to squirm.
“Whoa! When in the hell did that happen?” Halvo questioned.
“Not long ago, Eric.” I giggled, calling him by his first name. He rolled his eyes but dropped the subject.
“I can’t believe you’re getting married,” Shane stated, looking over at John. “It’s weird,”
Oh gosh…
Awkward silence filled the table.
“What do you mean, Shane?” John asked, raising his eyebrows. “Let’s face it, you’re not that smooth with the ladies,” Garrett helped out the youngest O’Callaghan.
“I’m shy!” John defended himself, and I giggled rather loudly.
“It’s not that either,” Shane replied. “I just always thought that you would end up with Dorinda….well we all did.”
Muffled agreements went around the table.
“That’s true,” Momma Ohh stated, nodding her head slightly.
John gave me a small glance, and I chose to force a laugh.
“That’s funny, Shane.”
“Yeah, that would be awkward,” John added, sounding awkward himself.
“Plus, I’m her boyfriend,” Garrett stated, wrapping an arm around my shoulders. “Not, Mr. Ohh.”
“And I’m getting married to this wonderful lady right here,” John added, kissing the side of Julie’s head. She looked uncomfortable and unsure of what to do. I felt the exact same way. Do I lean into Garrett more or hold his hand? Being in a fake relationship isn’t as easy as it sounds.
“I’ve got food!” Jared stated as he sat down two treys on the tables. He was soon followed by Big John before they passed out food.

“OH NO! WHAT HAVE I DONE?!” John asked me dramatically as we ate in my car in the In-N-Out parking lot. “I’VE CREATED A FAST FOOD EATING MONSTER!”
“Chill, Johnny.” I giggled. “I happen to like this place. It’s good.”
“I know,” He smirked. “You never had the balls to eat here.”
“Well you saw the way Robby reacted to my Burger King bag…”
“Yeah,” He laughed. “At least you can openly enjoy this here food.”
I laughed and shook my head
“Thanks for the ride to the doctor’s office…and for the food.”
“No problem, Dia. I feel like we haven’t spent any time together. I’m glad to have my best friend back.”
“I didn’t know I went anywhere?” I laughed. “You’re just dramatic.”
“Yeah, but still,” He chuckled. “It’s so weird to think that this time next week, I’m going to be on my honeymoon.”
I started choking on a fry when he said the very last word.
“That’s.” cough “…great,” I finished after I stopped choking.
“Chew your food, woman! I know it’s good, but damn,”
I rolled my eyes and shook my head.
“Thankssss,”
“You’re welcome,” He smirked. It was silent before John finally spoke again. “Dia?”
“Yeah…” I asked, trailing off.
“How do you like Julie?”
“She’s sweet,” I replied. “I…um…I still really don’t know the girl. She seems like she couldn’t hurt a thing.”
Unlike me.
“Do you think that she’s right for me?”
“I…uh…John,” I stammered over my words. “I…don’t really think i-it’s my place to…um…tell…”
“Just answer the question, Dorinda.” He stated, finally bringing his green eyes to my brown ones. “Do you think that Julie is the one for me?”
I bit my lip and looked down at my lap.
“N-no…” I finally answered.
Instead of getting a reply, John just started the car and drove out of the parking lot. The silence was way too much to bear. John and I never had this kind of silence between us…ever. We usually have some pointless joke or something to say, and when we don’t, the silence is comfortable. This silence was not. It was awkward, and you could cut the tension with the knife.
` “Did we hook up?”
The question caught me off guard as I snapped my head in his direction. John was staring at the road, his hands tightening on the wheel slightly. He stole a glance at me.
“Dorinda….why won’t you ever fucking answer me anymore. Dammit. It’s like I have to fucking beg just to get answers out of you!”
“I-I’m sorry,” I stuttered slightly.
“Please? Why can’t you just answer my questions the first time I ask them? You’re stuttering and putting them off! Do you mind telling me why that is?!”
“John, I’m just tired.” I lied, caught off guard by his temper. He’s always been hot headed, but never this bad with me.
“Bullshit.” He called me out as he ran a red light. “Shit!” he nearly yelled. There were no cars coming, but I looked in the rearview mirror and saw a car pull out behind us. Seconds later, lights started to flash and anger flashed across John’s face. “Are you fucking serious?!” He yelled before putting on the right signal and pulling over. “This is not over.” He warned.
After the officer gave John a ticket, he let us go, and John was more careful with his driving. He didn’t speak to me the entire way back to our house. Usually John would turn on the radio, but he didn’t this time. He just huffed and grunted the entire way while I let my head fall onto the window. When did things between us get this bad? Was it really Julie that was tearing us apart, or just us growing up? I didn’t want to think about that long, so I shook my head and reached for the handle once we were parked in the driveway. I got out first, careful with my wrapped ankle, and I walked toward the door with the rest of my food.
John was still in the car by the time that I was sitting in the dining room table with what was left of my food out on a plate. He came in a pulled a chair out from across from me. His lanky arms crossed in front of his chest and his green eyes roamed my face in search of answers. He should know better than to do that. I keep my emotions in check ninety-eight percent of the time so that no one knows how I’m really feeling. It was something gymnastics taught me years ago.
“Will you stop staring at me? It’s getting ridiculous,”
“Will you answer my question now?” He snapped back.
I huffed and looked at John right in the eyes.
“Whatever you want to know, I’ll answer them best to my ability.”
“Fair enough,” John sighed before he leaned closer, placing his elbows on the table. “Did we have sex again?”
I took a silent breath that I needed and I shook my head.
“No,”
Lying was getting a whole lot easier than it used to be.
