When You Left, He Was A Wreak
People lined the streets. The Maine were playing a small hometown show for shits and giggles. I held onto my purse and followed John inside the venue as people tried to follow us and get his attention.
"It's nice out. How about we go for a walk?" Garrett smiled.
"How are we going to get past them?" I pointed towards the door.
"We just walk out I guess. Hang out with some fans." Kennedy laughed.
John knelt down.
"What are you doing?" I was confused.
"Get on my back I want to show you something." he laughed.
I wrapped my legs around his waist and my arms around his neck and he stood up, carrying me like a feather.
"What a big strong boyfriend I have." I giggled, kissing the top of his head.
"You're my escape. I don't feeeeel like singing and taking pictures. I'm really just using you. Also you weight like 9 pounds so shut up." he laughed
Kennedy swung the door open and we went outside, John leading the way.
"HI JOHN!" everyone yelled, glaring at me.
"I feel like they all want me to burst into flames." I whispered in his ear.
"That's because they do want you to burst into flames." he smiled.
"Where are we going?" I rolled my eyes.
"I'm taking you to Iron Hill." he walked faster.
"Where we had our first date?" I grinned.
"Where we had our first date." he repeated, grinning from ear to ear.
we got passed the fans and I jumped off his back, standing by his side and taking his hand. We took our shortcut and walked to Iron Hill. I smiled at the sight of it. It was the same as before.
"I want to give you something but we have to find our tree." John wrinkled his nose, looking around.
I knew exactly where it was. I ran towards it, pulling John behind me.
When we got there, we stood in front of it, smiling at our stupid initials carved in it.
"We were so cliche." he laughed.
"YOU are cliche." I poked his side.
"Here." he pulled out a small box and handed it to me. "I've had this since you left. I was going to give it to you the day before you left but you just vanished." he looked at the ground.
I opened the box, gasping. It was a ring that I saw years back at a bookstore that I wanted so bad. It was a blue diamond ring.
"John, this is amazing." I pulled it out and gazed at it.
He took it out of my hand and slid it on my finger.
"I knew this would be the perfect place to do this. It's a promise. A promise that I'll be here through thick and thin. A promise that, no matter how tough it gets, no matter how unsteady the walk is, I'll always be here right by your side, even when I can't physically be here." he held my hands, staring into my eyes. I started tearing up.
"You cliche fuck." I kissed him, running my hands through his hair.
"You're the only thing that matters." he whispered.
"Well, water, food, and air matter too though." I giggled.
When we got back to the venue everyone was inside, watching Austin Gibbs play. Austin had been a good friend of ours for years and he was finally getting his talent out there.
"Remind me to take Austin on tour with me from now on." John laughed.
"Lauren, what is that?" Pat grabbed my hand.
"DID YOU.. ARE YOU GUYS ENGAGED?" Kennedy's eyes got wide.
"You guys are idiots." I laughed, shaking my head no.
"It's that ring you moron you went to get it with me." John said to Kennedy.
"Oh." they laughed.
"I love playing acoustic." John smiled, picking up his guitar.
I was sitting on a chair by the stage with some fans. John had just gotten done singing "I Must Be Dreaming." I had butterflies.
"Alright guys this is a new one. It's called Right Girl." John smiled at me.
"Hi, I'm Kelsey." the girl next to me stuck out her hand.
"Christine." I smiled and shook it.
"He looks at you differently." she said.
"I guess he does, doesn't he?" I watched him sing away.
"I've been a fan of The Maine for years now and I remember seeing you around a few years ago. Where have you been?" she asked.
"Chicago. Making all the wrong choices." I said.
"Well, he's got that glimmer back that he had a few years ago. I wish you both the best." she looked at my hand.
"It's nice out. How about we go for a walk?" Garrett smiled.
