We Found Love in a Hopeless Place
I woke up in a sweat, shaking. John was laying next to me, watching TV. I looked at the clock. 4:12 am.
"Jesus Christ, it was a dream." I sighed.
"You were whimpering in your sleep. I didn't know if I should wake you up or let you sleep." he smiled, reaching for my hand.
I explained my dream to him as he sat there, wide eyed.
"You have a gun?" he laughed, looking around my room.
"John!" I tried really hard not to smile.
"What?!" he laughed.
"I just told you my worst fear and all you care about is the fact that I have a gun?" I smirked, calming down.
"Sorry." he smiled.
"I do. I got it when I got back to Chandler. In case that shit ever happened. What happened last night anyways?" I asked, rubbing my head.
"You beat me in Gran Turismo and then you passed out on the couch. I carried you to your room and I fell asleep next to you. I woke up a few hours ago but you were still asleep." he scratched his head.
"I'm thirsty." I smacked my dry mouth.
John exited my room and came back with a bottle of Smart Water and an aspirin.
"Thank you." I popped the aspirin and drank down almost half the bottle of water.
"You don't ever have to worry about that. I honestly don't think he knows where you are." John rubbed my arm.
"I know but it's just something I think about a lot. I came back to Chandler to get away from his crazy ass. Chandler is my safe place. I don't want him taking that away from me." I sighed, rubbing my still aching head.
"I won't let him. I promise. You will never have to worry about him again."
He held me close and kissed my cheek, making me grin like a fool. A few minutes later, we were asleep again.
Later that morning, I woke up to the smell of bacon. I pulled John's shirt over my head and went to investigate. When I rounded the corner and walked in the kitchen, John's smiling face was grinning at me as he flipped the sizzling meat.
"I thought you'd never wake up." he smiled, setting the fork he was using down on the stove and walking around the counter to hug me. He kissed the top of my head.
"Good morning baby." I said, smiling into his shoulder.
He walked back over to the stove and pulled the bacon off of the skillet, setting it on a paper towel.
"Hope you're hungry." he asked, putting it on a plate and setting it on the table for us. He opened the fridge, got out the orange juice and a bowl of fresh raspberries, and set them on the table next to the bacon.
"This is a perfect breakfast." I smiled, popping a raspberry into my mouth.
As the sweetness filled my mouth, I smiled. I was so happy in this very moment, with this very person, I didn't care what happened. I felt so safe. I knew he would always be there. If he was so willing to pick up where we left off, there was no way to go but up.

'Good Vibrations' started to play as I stood on the stage with Garrett and Kennedy. John sat with the rest of the bar, laughing. Karaoke night at the bar was my favorite, and it was time for me to relive my legacy. Good Vibrations was kind of my thing. We danced around the stage, singing and rapping, laughing and having the best time. I missed goofing off with my friends. When it was all over, the three of us made our way back to John at our table, getting high fives from the bar locals.
"It's good to have you back Christine." Kennedy smiled, handing me my beer.
I made my way under John's extended arm.
"I'm starting to wonder why I even left." I laughed, drinking down a few more sips.
The night was spent dancing and drinking before John and I walked back to my apartment, laughing.
"You know what, Christine?" John smiled, as I dug through my purse to find my keys as we stood outside my door.
"Yesssssss?" I asked, pushing the key into the lock and turning it, my door swinging open. I was happy to be home. My shoes were cutting my feet.
"I don't know why you left either. You just took off. But honestly, you gave me the best inspiration to be a better person. In the end, you were the reason for all the songs I wrote. You. Christine Grace. You're kind of like my saving grace, get it?" he laughed, collapsing on my couch to take off his shoes.
"I get it."
I kicked off my shoes, and John and I went to collapse on my bed, falling asleep in each others arms almost instantly.
"Jesus Christ, it was a dream." I sighed.
