Finding Bat Country

Eight

I took a deep breath and opened my eyes, expecting to be in my bed only to find that I was leaning against a tree in the woods. My breath hitched in my throat.

“Mitch.” Syn’s voice spoke.

I looked around frantically trying to find him but all I could see was trees and darkness. A loud snap came from behind me. I spun around as fast as I could only to be slammed into the tree. Syn grabbed a hold of my wrists and pinned them above my head. He spun me around so that my back was facing him. I went to scream but for some reason my voice wasn’t working so I remained speechless.

“Don’t tell me your afraid of the big, bad wolf.” He hissed into my ear.

Finally my voice began to work again and I let out a scream that was almost identical to the ones a girl would scream in a old horror movie. He hissed and sunk his fangs into my tender neck but instead of sucking on my blood he injected me with some sort of liquid. My hazel eyes rolled into the back of my head and my body went limp, but before I could fall to the ground Syn caught me and placed a soft kiss on my lips. My eyes opened but instead of being hazel they were purple.

He smirked down at me, “Mitch, you’re a…”

“Mitch! Wake up!” Veronica screamed, snapping me out of my dream or maybe it was a nightmare.

I sat up fast almost smacking my forehead on hers.

“Jeez Mitch, you okay?” She asked barley getting out of the way.

I nodded, “Yeah I’m fine.”

“Okay. Well since it’s Saturday, Mom and Tim are over at Grandma’s so Alex is taking me to the movies, you wanna come?” She asked.

I shook my head no, “Nah, you go ahead. I’m just gonna go for a walk or something.”

Veronica pouted for a minute until Alex yelled, “We’re gonna go see The Final Destination!”

Her eyes lit up once she heard those words and quickly ran out of my room after saying a quick goodbye. I flopped back onto my bed and it was silent for a moment until I heard baring from down stairs. I let out a surprised gasp then realized that it was Brian.

“Jesus, Brian.” I sighed and got out of bed.

As I walked down the stairs I couldn’t help but drag my feet on my way down the stairs. When I got to the bottom, Brian was sitting in front of the front door with a leash in his mouth.

“Hey Brian.” I patted him on the head then took the leash out of his mouth.

His brown eyes seemed to be pleading for me to take him for a walk. Brain whined making it impossible for me to say no.

“Fine, just let me go change.” I sighed and watched his eyes light up.

I headed up the stairs with Brian on my heels. It didn’t take long for me to take a quick shower and dress.

“Okay Brian, ready to go?” I asked him as I hooked the leash onto his collar.

He wagged his tail and stuck out his tongue happily. Brian barked once making me smile.

“I’ll take that as a yes.”

I shut the door behind us on our way out and decided which way to go. After a minute of debating with myself, I walked off down the street. The sun was high in the sky and Brian seemed to be in a good mood, so I decided to grin and bear it. My thoughts were kinda all jumbled together. I had a shit load a questions to ask Syn, but when would I see him again? Before I got too deep into my thoughts Brian’s leash slipped out of my hand and he took of running towards the woods.

“Brian!” I yelled and ran after the wolf.

I stopped dead in my tracks when I reached the woods. There was no way in hell that I was going in there. It suddenly appeared a bit gloomy and I looked around to see that I was completely alone.

“Brian!” I shouted, hoping hear him bark at least.

“Well hello there, darling.” Syn’s voice whispered into my ear, sending shivers up my spine.

I turned around and tried to act unfazed by his presence.

“Hello Syn.” I pulled on my best poker face.

“Aw no thanking me?” He asked.

“Thanking you for what?” I questioned.

He smirked, “For letting you and Veronica go, and for making her forget.”

“Thank you. There. Happy?” I replied.

“Extremely.”

I rolled my eyes, “Well why are you suddenly my personal stalker?”

“Your mine, Mitch. All mine.” He growled lowly.

“No I’m not.” I snapped.

Syn grabbed a hold of my wrists and used his stupid mind powers to keep me still. He lifted up my shirt to expose the Syn tattoo.

“See this? This means that you’re my property.”

“I can get the tattoo removed.” I narrowed my eyes at him.

He laughed, “It’s not a tattoo sweetheart, it’s a brand. Not just any brand. This special brand let’s me know where you are whenever I want to know, in other words it’s a tracker that will lead me strait to you.

I must have had a shocked look on my face because he just smirked and said, “Don’t look so shocked. You made a deal with the devil, and it just keeps getting sweeter.”

“What are you talking about?” I demanded to know once he let go of my wrists.

“You’ll see.” He kissed me then before I could slap him he disappeared, leaving behind a cloud of smoke.

I fell the ground once he had released me from his stupid telekinesis or whatever. My wrists were a bit red and I couldn’t help but glare at the spot where he had just been standing. Not more than a few seconds later, Brian appeared and licked my cheek. I scratched behind his ear and got up.

“Let’s get out of her Bri.”

I took a good hold of his leash and we walked back to the house. Once we got inside I headed up to my room with Brian on my heels. Quickly I flopped down on my bed and decided to take a quick nap and I guess Brian had the same idea since he jumped up on the bed next to me.

“Good night Brian.” I mumbled.

It must have been just my imagination playing tricks on me before fell asleep, because I could have sworn Brian turned into Syn. But that's not possible......right?
