Let’s pretend, shall we?

Let’s pretend that I never met you, how simple things had seemed then. The life I had lived before you was a time that was mundane and boring, but it was still better, better then how things are now. Let’s pretend that you never waltzed into my life, dancing and weaving gracefully into my every thought, and then left me in stormy ruins.

Let’s pretend that you never hurt me; we’ll pretend that every day doesn’t kill me on the inside, that my heart isn’t scarred and bruised beyond repair, and while we’re at it, let’s pretend that you care about what you did to me.

Let’s pretend that you don’t haunt my every waking thought. Let’s pretend that you don’t disturb my dreams at night. Let’s pretend that I’m not hollow on the inside, that I’m not just a ghost drifting through the motions.

It’s a good thing we’re just pretending, right?
