Demise.

fourteen.

Prosper knew that today was the day he had to make peace with Norah. He was making his way down the hall when he stopped in front of the piano room. Norah was all alone at a piano playing each key intently. The notes were soft and the sound was incredible.

Prosper stood there watching her in shock, he couldn’t believe the music that she was making she began to hum something as her fingers slid across the keys.

Prosper slowly and quietly made his way into the piano room and stood in the corner so she couldn’t see him.

He couldn’t believe that someone with so much edge and attitude.. Could have a soft side.
When she stopped playing he started to clap and she looked up quick.

“That was really nice Norah.”

“Why do you insist on bothering me Prosper? What do you want from me honestly? Don’t you get that I’m not interested in you at all?”

“Can you just give me five minutes to say what I‘ve been wanting to tell you? Please?”

Norah sat on the piano bench and crossed her arms sending him a glare.

“Two minutes. Speak.”

Prosper pulled up a chair in front of her and sat down looking at her.

She really is pretty.. He thought.

“Look, I know everyone around this place thinks I’m like the messiah or something but honestly, I don’t like any of these people. It’s all just a image thing. I play my sports and I’m getting out of this dump as soon as graduations over. I just wanted to apologize about the way I treated you.. Thinking you were just going to come running into my arms just cause everyone else does was wrong.. I’m really sorry.”

Norah had this look on her face like she didn’t know if she could believe him or not. She stayed quiet.

“I was hoping we could start over?” Prosper stuck out his hand. “Hi, I’m Prosper.”

She looked at his hand and took it lightly and shook. “Hi, I’m Norah.”

He smiled lightly at her and turned back to the piano running her fingers over the keys again.

“What were you playing?” he asked.

“Something that my mom wrote.”

She kept playing as she talked, to prosper the more he knew about her, the more she fascinated him and he wanted more time with her. The bell rang and they both got up.

She opened her mouth to speak but closed it sighing and walked out. For the first time in a long time, Prosper actually felt like he was connecting with her, not like the way everyone else did, but the way you’re supposed to connect with somebody. It’s only a matter of time.
