twenty-seven.
Going back to school and facing everyone was probably the hardest thing Prosper ever had to do. He wasn’t the same person anymore and he was glad, and he wasn’t sure how everyone was going to react. Prosper had only one person on his mind and it was Chris.
He was treating Chris like a bad friend and he didn’t deserve it at all, so he saw Chris in the hall and went to talk to him.
“Hey, Chris.”
Chris looked up then looked back down a little disappointed.
“Oh, it’s you.”
Chris closed his locker and lifted his book bag over his shoulder.
“Look, I just wanted to apologize for being such a dick to you man, a lot of shits been going down and I shouldn’t have treated you like that.”
Chris huffed and stopped. “Well you really haven’t been acting like my friend Prosper.”
Prosper frowned leaning against a locker and took deep breath. “I’m sorry man- for everything I never meant to treat you like that. You’ve been my best friend since the third grade.. Chris they put my mom away.”
Chris looked at Prosper and it looked like he was trying to gather his words but nothing would come out.
“What do you mean they put her away?”
“Rehab bro, she was just to much for me to deal with- her boyfriend hit me and the neighbors called the cops.”
“Aw god Pros, I’m sorry.”
“Its fine man, I’m managing, hard but I’m making do, I hope you’re still me friend.”
He punches Prospers shoulder and smiled. “Of course, but I have to ask, what happened with Norah?”
This caused Prosper to smile- it was like nothing else mattered right now but Norah, it was like a cute thirteen year old crush but it was way more than that.
“Dude, she’s just amazing, she really warmed up to me- it took time but it happened. I even had dinner at her parents house. They surprisingly really like me a lot, and her little brother is evil- she kissed me Chris.”
Chris was smiling now and he gave Prosper a high five, like back in the third grade. All that mattered was that Prosper had Norah, and his best friend back. That’s all that really mattered to him.
