Admiring From Afar

Grandma Heather

It was a few weeks later after they established the name of their band. They had practiced every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. It just happened to be a Saturday after band practice and everybody decided to go bowling. It was going to be like a tetra-date. Rian would be going with Kara, Alex with Jordan Marie, Jack with Ana, this girl that recently moved to Baltimore, and Zack with Cassandra.

Rian and Kara were still going strong and it seemed like nothing could get in between them. They were the school’s ‘power couple’. Everyone wanted a relationship like them. Everybody thought they were going to get married when they graduate and grow old together.

Alex and Jordan Marie weren’t official yet but everyone hoped that it would change today. It was so obvious that Jordan and Alex liked each other a lot and they’ve even kissed before. Alex was just too shy to ask her out. He was afraid that she was going to say no and embarrass him in front of all of their friends.

Jack just asked Ana out a few days ago and they were totally smitten. Jack had never been this into a girl before, even when he was with Cassandra. They were so much alike. They both loved guitars and made dick jokes whenever they could and they also didn’t care what other people thought of them. They were extremely loud when they were with friends. Jack and Ana they connected right away. It was as if they had been dating for a few years already instead of only a few days. Everybody thought that this was a couple that was definitely going to last.

Zack and Cassandra on the other hand, weren’t going anywhere with their relationship. They fought over every little thing with each other. Jordan Marie always joked that they fought like an old married couple, which was true. They would fight and fight but would always come to an agreement at the end. Everybody saw that Zack was practically in love with Cassandra but sadly she was oblivious to it. Cassandra didn’t seem that into Zack though, at least not the way he was into her. It seemed that she only really liked him as a best friend, which was sad because Zack was like this desperate guy who would do anything for her. Everybody hoped that Cassandra would soon open up her eyes and see how much Zack means to her.

Everybody had seem to come to the fact that Jenn wasn’t coming back and they all decided that she wouldn’t want them to mope because of her. She was probably having a great time in Arizona and making lots of new friends.

“Who wants to go first?” Alex asked everyone.

“ME!” Jack screamed.

“I call second!” Ana yelled right after Jack. The lineup would be Jack, Ana, Jordan Marie, Cassandra, Kara, Rian, Alex and Zack.

In the end, Zack won with Jordan Marie right behind him losing by one point. Everybody decided to go to Jordan Marie’s house. She had the biggest house out of all of them and had the sweetest grandma. Her grandmother, Heather, was the stereotypical grandmother that was always baking cookies and always had a smile on her face and everybody as secretly hoping that Heather was going to make them her famous snicker doodles.

Not a lot was known about why Jordan Marie moved to Maryland seeing that she was from Chicago. All she told them was that she was sent here because her parents couldn’t deal with her anymore. A few thought that there was more to it than that, but most thought that that was the main reason. Jordan explained that her parents were always working and they realized after catching her doing things like pot and stealing that they couldn’t handle a child, which is why they sent her to live with her kind and loving Grandma Heather.

“Grandma Heather! I’m home and I brought friends!” Jordan yelled to her grandma.

“Jordy! Come give your old grandma a hug!” her grandma told her. Jordan and her friends walked into the kitchen to greet her grandma.

“Hi Grandma,” Jordan greeted her grandma with a smile. She walked over to her grandma and hugged her tightly. She loved her grandma to death and wouldn’t know what to do without her.

“Hi Jordy. I’m so glad that you’re home. And you brought your friends!” Grandma Heather exclaimed with a big smile.

“Hi Grandma Heather,” Alex greeted.

“Hello Alexander. I trust that you are doing well?” Grandma Heather asked.

“Very well, ma’am,” Alex replied politely.

“None of this ma’am stuff with me Alexander!” Grandma Heather scolded him.

Alex apologized.

“It’s quite fine dear,” Grandma Heather reassured him.

“Grandma Heather, it’s so nice to see you again,” Ana said politely.

“Ana, dear, it’s always a pleasure to see your pretty face,” Grandma told her with a smile.

“Yo, Grandma Heather, wassup?” Jack asked her.

“The ceiling,” Grandma Heather replied to Jack’s question.

“You’re house always smells so good,” Cassandra told her.

“Why thank you, dearie,” Jordan’s grandma thanked her.

“It’s nice to see you,” Zack and Rian told her with smiles on their faces.

“It’s always nice to see you two boys as well,” Grandma told them.

“Grandma Heather, whatever you’re baking it smells delicious,” Kara complimented Grandma Heather.

“Why thank you. Would you like to have some later?” she asked.

“Of course,” Kara replied with a smile.

After all of the greetings were over with everybody went into the living room of the house.

“So, what do you want to do?” Jordan asked her friends.

“I don’t know…” Ana replied.

“IS THAT DANCE DANCE REVOLUTION I SEE?!” Jack exclaimed.

“Yeah, my grandma has that for when her grandkids visit,” Jordan explained.

“I, Jack Bassam Barakat, challenged you, Jordan Marie Carter, for a round of DDR,” Jack told her seriously.

“I accept your challenge. Prepare to lose Mr. Barakat,” Jordan replied with a cocky smile on her face.
