Admiring From Afar

“How was your day of school Kelsey?” Cassandra asked her little sister while driving back to their house.

“It was great! I meant lots of new friends!” the little girl exclaimed.

“Really? What are their names?” Cass asked.

“Hannah…Rachel…and I think Peter,” she said while scrunching her eyebrows and tried to remember their names.

“Cool, so what happened at school?” Cassandra asked.

“Well, first there was this really mean boy who picked on me and stole my cookies during snack time,” Kelsey said with a frown on her face, “but then Peter told him to stop taking my cookies and to stop pulling my hair. Peter’s very nice.” Kelsey smiled when she remembered what Peter did for her.

“That’s not nice, but you know what they say, that boys pick on you when they secretly like you,” Cassandra told her little sister with a smile.

“Ewwww! Boys are gross and have cooties, plus David is mean!” Kelsey said in protest.

“Okay, well I’m glad that you had a nice day,” Cassandra told her little sister. They pulled up in their driveway and Kelsey hopped out of the car with her backpack trialing behind her. She ran to the door and patiently waited for her sister to walk up the steps and unlock the door.

“Can I have cookies?” Kelsey asked her sister while placing her backpack on a kitchen chair.

“Sure,” Cassandra told her while taking a few chocolate cookies out of the cookie jar. She got out a plate and placed the cookies on the plate. She walked over to the kitchen table and placed it on the table before asking Kelsey if she had any homework.

“I just have to draw a picture of my family,” Kelsey said while munching on a cookie.

“Okay, do you wanna get the crayons and paper?” Cassandra asked while unpacking her. Kelsey walked out of the room and came back with her big box of crayons and a few pieces of computer paper. She sat down at the table and started to draw her family.

While Kelsey was drawing Cassandra started on her Trig homework. She did it pretty quickly since she was pretty good in math and moved on to her English homework. After a few minutes of working on that Kelsey spoke up.

“I’m done!” Kelsey said while holding up her picture. Cassandra looked up from her homework and saw her sister’s art work.

“That’s beautiful!” Cassandra told her. “Now, put it in your folder so you don’t lose it, okay?”

“Got it,” Kelsey said while putting the picture on her princess folder. Then, she began to color more pictures.

Once Cassandra saw that Kelsey was occupied she finished up her English homework and put everything back in her bag.

It was now dinner time and Cassandra was preparing a pasta salad for herself and Kelsey. She was about done and called Kelsey into the kitchen to help her set the table. Kelsey put the napkins and utensils on the table and sat down. Cassandra placed the hot plates of food on the table and they ate in silence.

“This is good Cassie,” Kelsey told her older sister.

“I’m glad you like it. What do you want for dessert?” Cassandra asked her.

“Hmmm, brownies!” Kelsey said with a huge smile on her face.

“Then, let’s make some brownies!” Cassandra told her while smiling.

After putting their dishes in the sink Cassandra got out the brownie mix and Kelsey got out the water, and eggs. They mixed everything together and then put the brownies in the oven to cook. They talked to each other until the brownies were done and then cut out two pieces and put them on small plates. Then, they put those plates in the sink.

“Kelsey, could you go shower and get into your pjs for me?” Cassandra asked her little sister.

Kelsey just nodded and walked up the stairs into the bathroom.

Cassandra washed the dishes and cut up all of the brownies and put them in a container. She turned off all of the lights and walked upstairs into her room. She heard Kelsey get out of the shower and then carried her pjs and walked into the bathroom.

After her shower she brushed her hair and walked into Kelsey’s room and told her go to sleep. Kelsey got into her bed and Cassandra tucked her in and kissed her forehead and whispered a ‘goodnight’ and then left.

The next day, Cassandra and Kelsey were running a little bit late. Kelsey couldn’t find the shoes she wanted to wear and wouldn’t wear any other shoes. Cassandra tried looking for her shoes everywhere but she couldn’t find them. She looked everywhere. Cassandra was currently going over the different place where Kelsey’s shoes could be in her min. Under the bed? Check. By the door? Check. In my room? Check. Under the couch? Cassandra didn’t check under the couch! She quickly ran to the living room and got on her hands and knees and checked under the couch. Eureka! She found her sister’s white converse. She quickly grabbed them and ran to where Kelsey was looking.

“Guess what I found?” Cassandra asked her sister while hiding the shoes behind her back.

“My shoes?!” Kelsey asked her sister excitedly.

“Yes!” Cassandra told her sister with a big smile. She showed Kelsey the shoes and Kelsey quickly grabbed them and laced them up. “Ready to go?” Cassandra asked her sister.

“Yeah!” Kelsey said and ran to the door while grabbing her backpack on the way.

Cassandra grabbed her bag and car keys and opened the door. She locked the door behind her and her sister and unlocked the car doors. Kelsey got into the car and Cassandra started the car. Five minutes later they arrived at Kelsey’s school and Cassandra unlocked the doors and Kelsey ran out of the car and into her line-up line.

Cassandra quickly drove to her school and parked. She got everything out of the car and locked it and quickly started to run to the building. She ran to her locker and gathered her books. Suddenly someone covered her eyes with her hands.

“Guess who,” the person said.
