Crazy

Meet the Crazies

"So then what happened between you and Craig from then on?" Dr Carls leaned forward waiting for me to speak.

"Doc, you already know, you've talked to Craig, but I suppose I'll humor you and tell you anyways.

Craig and I became what you would call a couple.

You know, boyfriend and girlfriend.

I would sneak into his room at night, and other nights he would sneak into mine.

I love sleeping next to him, he was so warm.

His arms wrapped around me made me feel safe.

Like I wasn't a nut case.

At first we would get in trouble for it, but as time went on the nurses cared less.

Maybe that's because they liked us.

Or maybe because they pitied us.

-Two Crazy people in love.

I know I know, we "aren't crazy, just confused."

But really we were crazy.

Who were we to be in a relationship when we were in a mental institution where everything was analyzed.

When we went to the bathroom we had to sign in.

When we ate, we had to record what we were throwing away.

When we showered, a nurse of the same sex was in there making sure we 'didn't hurt ourselves'.

We had a bed time.

And were fenced in like dogs.

Not the best circumstances to start a relationship, yet we did it.

And surprisingly, it was the best relationship I had ever been in.

Craig understands me, he knew what would make me smile and what would make me flinch.

He made me feel uncrazy.

Like I was normal for once.
