Alone

Mommy.... I could feel myself mouthing the word. I felt as tears came down my face, from the nightmare I had just had.

I clung to the pillow I had in my arms, and squeezed my eyes closed, as memories of my nightmare and the past came to me in a rush.

The nightmare had been set in past years when I was probably about eight or nine, and I was clinging to my mom, and she was disappearing. I was loosing her. I had always been close with my mother, and when my parents would beat me, her hits, and punches, and kicks would hurt a little less then my fathers did.

I would always cling to a shred of hope, that she would stop, or get help, but in the end, all I got was nothing.

All I wanted to do at this moment was cry and scream for my mommy!... But I couldn't do that. All I could do was lay there and let silent tears fall down my face as I fantasized about having my mom with me.

I heard a knock on the door which brought me out of my despair.

"Kirsten.." I heard Bianca whisper.

I got out the bed and went over to the bed.

"Hey," She had a small smile on her face. "Just checking up on you, is all. Anyways we have to leave soon if we wanna make it to first class on time." I nodded, and she left me.

I went to my closest and grabbed the first pieces of clothing I saw. I didn't care what I looked like today really, I wasn't in the mood to.

I quickly took a shower, put my clothes on, and fixed my hair and face. I met Bianca at the front door of the dorm and we walked to first class together.

I was left alone in this first class today. I didn't mind it though, it reminded of days back in the orphanage when I was always alone. I had just arrived there, so I didn't have any friends or anything. Even when I did get some friends I was never bothered by anybody, and I was used to that living style. Coming to this school had changed that all.

I was pulled out of my thoughts when I heard the announcer on the intercom come on. I listened as the Head Mistress spoke.

Students, I know that I promised a welcome back dance at the beginning of the year, but with Halloween coming up, I have decided to make the Welcome Back dance into a Masquerade Halloween Ball. There will be more Bulletins posted around the school, with information on the Ball. That's all for today. Have a great day!

Then with an annoying beep, her voice disappeared, and the class was left with silence. The teacher began where he left off before as he put it, he was so "rudely interrupted". By the announcement.

The class went on. I took notes on what I needed too, and I listened to everything that I thought was important. Teachers never called on me to answer questions. You could probably guess why...

When the dismissal bell rang, I was sure I was one of the first people out of there. I found Leo, Zachy, and Bianca huddled around by my locker. I went up to them, and I noticed that when Leo saw me he quickly said something to the others, and they all quickly turned toward me with a big smile. I couldn't help but notice how funny they all looked.

As I approached I couldn't help but notice how suspicious they all looked. I raised an eyebrow to them, and they didn't do anything. They just kept staring at me with those big smiles on their faces. Which I should mention was starting to get a little creepy.

I gave a scared smile, and pushed through them, to get to my locker. They stayed silent with big smiles, all through my locker combination, me opening the locker, grabbing my books, closing the locker, putting the lock back on, and turning to face all of them.

I was officially creeped out by all of them. I didn't even wait to walk to class with Zachy I just sped walked, or ran, away from all of them. I couldn't stand to see them staring at me with big smiles anymore. I thought I was gonna cry it was so scary.

All through the day I stayed away from my normal group of friends. They had creeped me out too much to go near them. During classes I would sit in seats far away from them, and at lunch I hid out in my dorm. After school I ran to the dorm, I grabbed Bubba, and quickly left campus. I didn't want to see any of them.

We walked the trail at the park, and saw other dogs there. Bubba would bark and do whatever to them that dogs did.

We were on our way back to the Academy when we ran into some familiar faces. It was Audrey, and Matt? Matt the same Matt from that club that the boys had taken me too.

I stopped when our paths crossed. Matt noticed me and he stopped which made Audrey stop.

"Run into a friend Matt?" Audrey asked.

"Uh, kind of. Kirsten right?" I nodded, and Audrey looked toward our general direction.

"Kirsten, as in Bianca, Zachy, and Leo, Kirsten?" I nodded, and Matt said yes.

"I should have known, you have the same color as last time... Purple." I smiled.

"Wait! Wait! How do you two know each other?" Matt asked.

"Oh well it was actually in this same park, and she bumped into me, and we all just kind of hit it from there. What about you?"

"We met at a club." Then he turned to me. " Sorry I never texted you, I kind of forgot all about it." I shrugged, I had forgotten too.

"Well, Kirsten I would still like to talk to you one on one, sometime. What do you think?" I nodded.

"Good, I saw your purple shake." She said with a giggle.

"Bye Kirsten. I'll actually text you later." I gave a smile and shrugged to Matt.

I waved goodbye and then Bubba and I were on our way. We made it back to the Academy within minutes. I remembered my creeper friends from earlier, and crept around the campus, taking the longest routes back to my dorm.

When I got back to my dorm, no one was there. I was happy about that. I made my way back to my room. I opened the door, and saw a mess. Someone had gone through my room and trashed it.

Everything was messed up, there were papers everywhere, and clothes were strewn everywhere. I panicked then. They had gone through everything. I started searching for it.

I looked under the papers and clothes. I looked in drawers, and in the closet. I went to the bed and looked under the covers and everything. I finally found it under one of my pillows.

I looked the picture over, and saw that there was no damage done to it. I sighed to myself, and held the picture to my chest. The picture was the last happy picture I had with my family.

We were all together in my parents bed. My Aunt was over and it was my birthday. I had gone into my parents room, to wake them up, so we could start celebrating the glorious day. My Aunt had come in and told us all to smile. She snapped the picture.

A couple weeks later my entire family died in an explosion and my parents were never the same after that day. I sighed and put the picture away in a drawer in the desk.

I then proceeded to clean my room. I had an idea on who destroyed my room, but I wasn't gonna do anything about it. I wasn't the kind of person to go out on revenge. I just let the pieces fall were they may. Also I had learned that karma was a nasty bitch.

When I finished cleaning my room, I heard the front door open and close. I immediately thought that it was Bianca, so I grabbed Bubba and hid in the closet. I couldn't take her smile.

"Kirsten? Kirsten?!" It was Bianca. She was looking for me. I saw her face, and she didn't look so scary anymore, so I came out of the closet, and went to her.

"Ahh, there you are. I haven't seen you all day!"

"Where have you been?" I shrugged my shoulders, and followed her out to the lounge.

"So you ready for tomorrow?" I raised an eye brow. What was tomorrow?

"It's Saturday, finally the weekend right?" I nodded. Something wasn't right I could feel it.

"Well anyways, I'm going over to Devin's see you later." And then she was gone.

I heard a buzzing and started searching for my phone. I found it in my jacket pocket. I looked at the caller I.D. and saw that it was Melinda. She was my caretaker at the orphanage. I answered the phone immediately.

Hey Kirsten! You been doing good? I tapped the phone once for a yes, and I could hear her chuckle on the other side.

Well that's great! Anyways, I got big news for you... We decided that for winter break we would fly you back here to Virginia. We got a big surprise for you! Again I tapped the phone once. What was I gonna say?.. Nothing, exactly!

Great well I'll call you again, with more details, bye Kirsten. I hung up the phone then. I collapsed on the couch and closed my eyes for a minute.

After my minute was up I headed back to my room, and laid down on my bed. I was tired, and all I wanted to do was sleep. But I was afraid of the nightmares I might get if I did.

But I had no control over that once my eyes started drooping.
