With Words I Should've Said

21 and Up

"I think you should leave now," I started to close the door, but he stopped it with his foot. I backed away from the door.
"What your mother's never told you about me?" he walked towards me. "You are so pretty."
"How did you find me? Are... are you stalking me?"
He chuckled. "Oh, no. It was easy to find you after I found your mom."
"Please leave."
"So beautiful," he touched my arm.
"Don't touch me-"
"Hey! Let go of her," Chris walked in front of me and pushed him away from me. He turned to me. "Are you okay?"
I nodded, terrified.
"And who are you?" the guy asked.
"Her boyfriend," he balled up his fists.
"Chris, pleas," I begged.
"Well I'm her father. You can't make me leave."
"You are not her father. John is her father now."
"So Mel got married?" he directed the question to me.
"Don't call her that!" I yelled. Chris moved in front of me.
"You should leave now. Right now," his voice was low and menacing.
The guy called my father looked me up and down one last time before slowly retreating. I realized I'd been crying.
"Nat, was that guy really your dad?" Chris asked.
I nodded slowly. "I think so."
"Why was he looking at you like that?" Chris asked.
"He kept telling me I was pretty and crap," I rubbed my face.
"I'm gonna kill him," Chris's face was very red.
"Please don't do anything."
"What if he comes back?"
"I don't know. I'm so scared right now."
Chris walked me to the couch. He held me. "And I'm pretty pissed right now."
"I don't want to stay here tonight," I cried.
"I'll call the guys," Chris grabbed his phone.

I was sitting in between Chris and Maika, who had Brittany sitting in his lap. He was rubbing her spine with his fingers.
"I can't believe that happened," Brittany said quietly.
"Well it did," Chris was still really pissed.
I looked at him. "Please calm down. It's okay now."
"I saw the way he looked at you. He's a pervert."
"He's always been that way," I frowned.
"What do you mean?"
"Oh nothing, just, people never change," I covered. Now was not the time to bring up my life's story.
"So, who wants to do something to keep Nat distracted?" Christian offered.
I smiled. "You always know how to make me feel better."
"So, since this is my house can I tell you to make me a sammich?" Jay rocked on his heels.
"No."
"Fine!" he yelled. "I'll have Chinese food."
"Hey, Nat. Can I talk to you?" Chris stood up.
"Sure," I followed.
We stood outside Jay's house. "Remember what I said earlier tonight?"
I thought back. "You said a lot of stuff."
"Well there was one specific thing... Here, let me explain. I realized that I don't like it when other guys look at you or talk to you. It makes me jealous. I like you."
"Oh, ok. That thing about the boyfriend thing..." I said awkwardly.
"Yea. So?"
"What?" I asked.
"Will you be my girlfriend?"
I smiled and blushed, dropping my head to disguise it. "Of course."
He leaned over and kissed me.

I twirled my pen in my hand. I was filling in a job application at Hot Topic before going out to a party tonight. Chris was coming to pick me up soon. I heard a familiar voice and turned around.
"John?" I asked. I recognized a boy I was good friends with and had a crush on early on in high school.
He looked at me. "Natalie? I haven't seen you in a year!"
"Well that happens when you don't have any classes together," I smiled. He was as adorable as he was as a freshman.
"Well maybe we could hang out sometime? Catch up on a little date."
"Probably not..." Yeah right.
"What? Is something wrong?"
"I have a boyfriend now," I said awkwardly.
"It doesn't have to be a date."
"He's been... overprotective lately," I explained.
"Why?"
"Stuff..." I avoided eye contact.
"I'm sure he wouldn't mind if we just hung out."
"Actually-"
"Hey, Natalie. Who is this?" he asked coolly, stepping partially in front of me.
"A friend from high school."
"Hi. My name's John," he said monotone.
"Oh. That's nice. John," he sneered a little. He and John were having that whole 'alpha male-awkward-best friend/boyfriend-thing'.
"Don't we have somewhere to be?" I asked.
Chris gave John one more cold stare before grabbing my hand and leading me away.
"What the crap was that about?"
"I don't know what you're talking about."
"Chris, why did you treat him like that?" I yelled.
"Because he obviously has a thing for you. I don't want you seeing him."
"You can't control my life."
"How would you feel if you saw me going out with another girl?" he came close to my face.
"Pissed." I turned away.
We got to the car and I stayed silent.
"I'm sorry. I just hated seeing you talk that way to another guy."
"It's understandable. He was my high school sweetheart."
"Okay, that makes it worse," his hands clenched around the steering wheel.
"Buuut, I do know this really great guy now. He's tall, skinny, has long brown hair and the most beautiful blue eyes."
"Sounds hot," Chris smiled a little bit.
"Oh, he is! And he's aaaaaaaaall mine."
"Oh, really?"
"And he's gonna take me to a party tonight. And I'm gonna look hot," I joked.
"You always look hot." I blushed.

"So where are we going?" I asked.
"A bar that will let in 18 year olds," Maika said from the back. He was holding hands with Brittany. I was sitting next to Christian who had ear buds in. Jay was driving.
"Oh, haha," I said sarcastically. "Because we can help that."
"I knew it!" Chris turned around from the front seat. "You can help it!"
"You are not smart. At all," I crossed my arms.
"Oh really?" he asked.
"Yes, really. Don't piss me off. I'm already angry about you and John."
"I said I was sorry!" he complained.
"But now he probably hates me. And he has a record for holding grudges," I murmured.
"What was that last part?" Maika asked.
"Nothing."
"Guys stop fighting!" Jay turned around.
Everyone yelled at him.
"Jay turn around!"
"Eyes on the road, idiot!"
"Pay attention to the GPS!"
"I'm sorry!" Jay yelled. He pulled into the driveway of a sketchy looking gas station.
"What is this?" I sighed.
"It's connected to the club. Don't want anyone sneaking in!" Chris got out of the car.
"Okay ground rules!" Maika yelled. "Under age participants, that would be Britt and Nat, not alcohol, smoking, violence, or sex! Okay?"
"Whatever," we pushed past him.
"Is that a yes?" he called.
"Hey, Brittany!" I yelled too loud. "Let's go get laid!"
"Excuse me?" Chris asked.
"Kidding!" I exclaimed, getting a little embarrassed.
"That's what I thought," he put his arm around me.

The club was just a bar with a stage and lots of bright lights. There was a 'show' going on. I turned to Chris and Maika.
"I swear, if you even look at any strippers I will murder you both."
"And if you 'get laid' I will kill you," Chris grabbed my hand, bringing up our previous conversation.
"So do you want anything to drink?" I asked, pulling on his hand.
"A beer," he suggested.
"Don't go getting drunk on me!" I warned.
"I'll try... Do you want anything?"
"Do they have virgin margaritas?" I asked.
"Yeah, I'll go see what everyone else wants," he walked off, taking everyone's orders.
A couple of minutes later, he came back with the drinks.
"Hey, this tastes funny," I licked my lips.
"It's virgin," he shrugged.
"Like you," I muttered.
"Right..." he joked.
"I better be right," I kept drinking. "This is really starting to taste funny!" I complained.
"Okay, if you're gonna complain so much, we're going to dance!" he pulled me up and ran to where the rest of the guys were being drunken idiots.
