Ice Cold Love

-Chapter Three-

I landed in a crying heap at the bottom of the well in the feudal era. I was a sobbing mess and my chest ached from the sight of my mother. I climbed out of the well, which was dreadfully hard with my box of witch tools in my hand. I looked around me then looked at myself and was horrified. I was covered in soot, soot as black as my mother’s charred flesh.

A strangled cry escaped from my mouth as I frantically tried to wipe the soot away, but it only smeared which made me cry harder. My shirt was torn and my back was open to the sun’s rays. Clutching my box to my chest I walked away from the well. I need to find Kagome!

I cast out my senses and gave a sigh of relief when I sensed her only a hundred yards away. I ran towards hers and Inuyasha’s aura and screamed her name, “Kagome!”

She turned around and upon the sight of me, dropped her bag and ran towards me. “Megumi, what happened? Why are you covered in soot, and why are you crying?”

I could only sob. Inuyasha picked up her bag and Kagome walked me towards Kaede’s village. I was given a bath, and set of priestess clothing as well as a cup of steaming hot tea and dumpling. Once I was clam enough to speak, I told Kagome and her group of friends how I had got here as well as my background when Sango, Miroku, Kaede, and Shippou grew confused.
Kagome held me as I cried in her arms. “It was awful, Kagome, she was all burnt and smelled of charred flesh, and her eyes!”

“Shh, Megumi, shh, I’m here for you.”

I got up from the floor and went outside to feel the breeze on my face as it blew away my tears. “I’ll be back; I’m going for a walk.”

I did not wait for a reply. I walked out of the village into InuYasha’s Forest. I smiled at the sun’s rays smiled down upon me; I tilted my face towards the slight breeze and inhaled the clean air. For witch like me, being around all these elements while they are fresh and not dampened by the city, it a renewal of some sort for my soul.

I sat down under the shade of an oak tree and closed my eyes as I listened to the whispering winds. I brought my right leg up to my knee and rested my arm on it while my left leg stretched out. I took a deep breath filling my lungs with the fresh, clean air around me. “You would have loved this mom.”

“Lord Sesshomaru! Mast Jaken! Look over there, it’s a girl!”

I opened my eyes to see the little girl of about ten running towards me. She wore her hair and down and had a little pigtail sticking from the top part of the right side of her head. She was dressed in an orange and white checkered kimono with a green obi, and was barefoot. She smiled at me and I couldn’t help but smile back.

“Well hello, there, what’s your name?” I asked.

“My name is Rin!” The girl said happily. “What is your name?”

“My name is Megumi.”

“That is a very pretty name.” She took out a wreath of sakura flowers from behind her back and presented them to me with a big smile. “Will you please take these?”

I smiled, “I would love to!” She placed the wreath on my head and smiled again. “Lord Sesshomaru, does she not look pretty?”

“Hnn”, was Lord Sesshomaru’s reply as he continued to walk along.

“Come, Rin we are to have a meeting with Lord Sesshomaru’s ungrateful, half-breed of a brother”, said Jaken.

“You’re going to see Inuyasha”, I asked. “I was on my way back there, I came for a walk.” I said as I followed them.

The walk back to Kaede’s village was quiet. Inuyasha and the others met us. I couldn’t help but notice the tension between Sesshomaru and Kagome. Kagome looked at him with a hopeful look in her eyes, but Sesshomaru cut her a cold, icy look that made Kagome look away.

While the men went away to talk I talked to Kagome. “Kagome, what was that?”

“What do you mean”, Kagome said as she busied herself with making a fire to start dinner and tea.
“You and Sesshomaru, there was so much tension back there, that I could cut it with a knife. What’s happened to make him look at you like that? And don’t say he looks at everyone that way, because the look he gave you was much colder than the looks he gave us, and he looks like he’d like to lop InuYasha’s head off with a sword.”

“You saw that huh?” At the look I gave her Kagome sighed. “His hatred for Inuyasha isn’t new, he’s always hated him, but the reason he was so cold to me is because of what I did. See he used to date this wind witch named Kaugra, but it didn’t really work out, and he and I got pretty close. We had even talked of mating. Well he had to leave to check on his lands, some demon lord was getting to greedy and Sesshomaru had to deal with him. He said he would return and I told him I’d be waiting. But when he came back he walked in on me and Inuyasha mating. He’s hated me ever since.”

“Wow, I never thought that you would do that”, I said surprised.

“Me either.”

“He looked so heartbroken. He hides it well, but no one, and I mean no one, can hide there feelings and emotions from me. It’s almost impossible.” I said.

“I feel terrible for what I’ve done, I really do, but it couldn’t be helped. I thought I loved Sesshomaru, but the truth was I was just hurt that Inuyasha couldn’t get over his ex, Kikyo, and I wanted a replacement for him. I love Inuyasha more than I thought I loved Sesshomaru.”

I hugged my cousin as she cried a few silent tears. “I’m here for you. here I think im might know what will make you feel better.”

XoXoXoXo
Inuyasha, Sesshomaru, and Miroku returned to find Megumi, Kagome, and Sango sitting inside a circle drawn in chalk. Megumi was singing. The three men could sense the power radiating from Megumi, it was magical, peaceful, and oh so powerful. They had never encountered a source of power so great and refreshing and clean. It was more powerful and pure then Kagome’s and Kikyo’s powers combined.

“Wow, are you seeing what I’m seeing”, asked Miroku.

“Yeah, it’s amazing”, Inuyasha gasped.

“Hnn.”

Megumi stopped singing and said, “Goddess, we thank you.” She stood up and rubbed out the circle with her foot before picking up her supplies and placing them, carefully, in a black box. Sesshomaru could not keep his eyes off her. She was truly beautiful, her hair shined like a raven’s wing and flowed down to her waist, her eyes were the color of polished silver. When her eyes turned towards him they shined like a bright and sharp sword.

Power still crackled in the air around her, her aura pulsated with it and was a bright green color. “Lord Sesshomaru”, she said. She tilted her head in a small bow of respect then turned her back on him.

“That’s Megumi”, said Miroku. “Kagome’s cousin.”

“Hnn.”

Kagome stood up refreshed and feeling as if she was walking on air. She glided over to the campfire and began cooking fish and ramen, as well as a pot of Jasmine tea.

Megumi rested under an oak tree sitting in the exact same position that Sesshomaru sat in. She tilted her head and stared at the moon while the sun fought to shine just a little longer. It finally gave up and moon reflected itself in Megumi’s eyes. Sesshomaru sighed as he felt an aching in his chest. He looked towards Kagome whom had nestled herself into Inuyasha’s lap. He wrapped his arms around her and buried his face into her hair. Inuyasha looked up and locked eyes with Sesshomaru. The look in his eyes, though not his face, was indeed a smirk. It was a challenge as if to say, “I got Kagome, Sesshomaru, we’ve mated and she’s mine for life. How does it feel to lose?”
