Resistance Is Useless

The Beach

25.
Andy

My eyes fluttered open to the dim lighting of Jack’s bunk. His chest was against my back, and I could feel his warm breath on the back of my neck. His arm was draped across my side, holding me close to him. I could hear people talking in other parts of the bus, meaning it had to be at least nine. I snuggled closer into Jack and let my eyelids close again, but I suddenly remembered what we were doing today.
“Three hours until we go to the beach!” I said aloud, and sat up slightly underneath Jack’s arm, causing and him to stir and open his eyes. He groaned and pulled me closer into him.
“Jack, we have to get up,” I sighed.
“What if I don’t wanna?” He whined into the back of my neck. I rolled over so I was facing him, and propped myself up on my forearm.
“Come on,” I said, shaking his shoulder gently, “You have an acoustic thing at a radio station in an hour, and you can barely play the guitar when you’re awake. No one wants to see you try when you’re tired,” I joked. He smiled up at me with his eyes still shut. We sat for a moment, until he opened his eyes and looked up at me.
“There is something that would wake me up…” he said.
“What?” I asked. He looked at me with his eyebrows raised. I thought for a second before I realized what he meant. Horny bastard.
“Sure, Jack. Let’s have sex,” I said with a completely straight face.
“Wait, really?” he asked, clearly not getting that I was joking.
“No!” I rolled my eyes and laughed. With that, I pulled the curtain back and hopped out of his bunk. I leaned into my bunk and grabbed a pair of shorts, a tank top, and my bag of bathroom things. I got ready for the day and went out to the front lounge, in search of some Honey Nut Cheerio’s. I smiled at Alex, Zack, Evan, Vinny and Matt who were sitting on the couches. I assumed everyone else was in the back lounge, probably playing video games. I grabbed the cereal box from the shelf, but when I picked it up it was empty. Someone had eaten all the cereal from the bag and put the empty box back.
“Who ate all the fucking Cheerios?” I bellowed. Alex smiled at me timidly, while the rest of the guys laughed.
“Sorry,” he laughed. I glared back and threw the empty box at Alex, and couldn’t help but laugh when it hit him.
“I’m not your friend anymore,” I said, trying to suppress my smile. He just laughed. I gave him the ‘evil eye’ and grabbed a banana from the counter.
“Will someone go wake up Jack?” You guys have to be at the radio station at ten, so we need to get going,”
“I’ll get him,” I said, taking a bite of my banana. I turned and walked back to Jack’s bunk. I noticed he had pulled the curtain shut and was probably asleep again. I tugged his curtain open and poked him in the back.
“Jack! Get your skinny ass out of bed!” When no response came, I began shaking his shoulder, and he finally turned over to look at me.
“Whaaat?” He groaned.
“You have to be at the radio station in like,” I looked down at my phone, “forty minuets. So get up!” He shut his eyes again and reached his arms out to me. “What?” I said, unsure of what he wanted me to do, “You can get your self up,” I laughed. He groaned again and rubbed his face with his hands. “Any day now!” I said. He smirked at me, swung his legs out of his bunk and hopped out of it. “Go get dressed!” I exclaimed.
“Yes, mother,” Jack said teasingly. I flipped him off as I finished my banana. I went back into the front lounge and sat on the couch next to Zack.
“Is he up?” Matt asked. I nodded and threw my banana peel into the trashcan across from me.

- 2 hours later -

I was trying to keep myself preoccupied on the Internet, but it wasn’t
working very well. I really couldn’t care less what everyone was saying on facebook, but suddenly one post caught my eye. ‘Dustin Hays: Visiting my bro in LA for the weekend!’
“Holy shit. He’s here for the weekend too! What if I run into him?!” I thought. But then the logical part of brain took over, “LA is a huge city, there are miles of beach, hundreds of restaurants, and hundreds of clubs. It’s pretty unlikely that we would run into each other.” Realizing that made me feel better, so I took a deep breath and went back reading facebook.
I was checking the time about every minute, anxiously awaiting the arrival of Matt, Alex, Jack, Zack, and Rian, so we could go to the beach!
The beach was my favorite place in the world. I loved the smell and sound of the ocean, the way the sand felt beneath my feet. I loved the feeling of the sun on my skin and spending the whole day with friends or family.
I had already put my favorite bikini on under my tank top and shorts and packed a towel, sunscreen, money and bottles of water in a tote bag. I was literally about to jump out of skin with excitement when the guys walked through the door. I quickly shut my laptop and jumped off of the couch.
“Guys! Go get ready! I wanna go!” I yelled.
“I’m good, thanks. How are you?” Matt said sarcastically. I rolled my eyes at him.
“Matt, you’re just bitter cause no one wanted to go to Disney World,” I said with a smirk.
“Shut up,” he muttered. I flopped down on the couch next to Rian and asked how it went at the radio station.
“It went well,” he answered, “Alex didn’t mess up any of the lyrics this time,”
“Was the DJ irritating?”
“Well that’s pretty much inevitable. All radio DJ’s are irritating,” Rian answered. I laughed at his logic and nodded in agreement.
“Is everyone ready to go to the beach?” I asked generally, standing from the couch. Almost everyone in the room shook their head or replied “No.”
“Come on!” I said, pulling Rian off the couch, “I wanna leave in 15 minutes! Go get ready! Swim suits! Sunscreen! Now!” I said, corralling everyone towards the bunks.
About 15 minutes later, the entire All Time Low band and crew were exiting the bus onto the hot pavement, headed toward the beach.
“I think we just have to walk this way for a while and then turn right,” Matt said, pointing straight ahead of us. After about ten minutes of walking we were at the beach.
I smiled and took a deep breath, inhaling the smell of the ocean. I scanned around for a place to set up our towels, and spotted a clear space on the crowded sand a little ways to the right. There were a lot of people there, but it wasn’t too bad for a Friday in June. I pulled my sandals off and walked through the sand barefoot. I loved the way it felt between my toes. The sand today was warm, but didn’t burn the bottoms of my feet. When I reached the clearing I set my bag down, pulled out a towel and spread it across the sand. The boys had followed me to the spot and were setting down their things as well. Jack sat down next to me, pulled off his shirt and grabbed a beer from the bag he had been carrying.
“Jack, you’re not supposed to have glass, or alcohol on the beach, you know,” I said. He smiled at me, shrugged and opened his beer. I laughed and rolled my eyes.
“So, are we gonna go in the water, or what?” He asked. I nodded enthusiastically and stood from my towel.

Jack

Andy nodded and stood. She crossed her arms over her stomach, grabbing the hem of her tank top and pulled it off, revealing the floral bikini she was wearing. I couldn’t help but stare. The cleavage from her bikini top was… really hot. And kinda turned me on. She then unbuttoned her ripped, jean shorts, let them drop and kicked them off of her feet. So many dirty things flooded into my head. She looked up at me and smiled, and I looked away so she wouldn’t think I was staring. I looked out on the ocean and tried to think about my grandma before things got embarrassing.

Andy

I could feel Jack’s eyes on me as I took my clothes off. I didn’t want to call him out on staring at me, but I knew he was doing it. Although, I suppose I’d rather have him gawking at me than gaging.
I looked at him and smiled, and he quickly looked away. He probably thought he’d just gotten away with starring. I rolled my eyes and said, “Come on! Let’s go in the water!” Jack stood up and I grabbed his hand, pulling him towards the water.

Most of the guys had started a small game of football further back on the beach, with the exception of Alex, Evan, and Zack, who were standing in the gentle waves.
I wasted no time getting in the water, pulling Jack along side of me. I walked straight into the salty waves until I was about waist deep (the water was only hitting him about mid-thigh), and joined the other boys. As soon as Jack and I were standing with Alex, Evan, and Zack, Jack stepped away from me, yelling that something bit his toe, and dove away from us. We all just laughed at him.
Out of nowhere, Alex swiftly moved his hands through the water, sending a huge splash right into my face. I turned to him, gave him a death glare-smirk and said, “Oh you fucking asked for it!” I splashed him back and we began sending waves of water at one another. We were both laughing loudly and trying to block our faces from the flying water. All of a sudden the splashing stopped and I turned just in time to see Alex leaping towards me.
“No!” I yelled as he tackled me into the salty water. He pulled me under for a moment and held my back against his chest, restraining me. I kicked my legs and wiggled in protest until he stood us back up. I wiped the water off of my face with my hand, and Alex was still holding on to me. His holding had started off as something playful and friendly, but as we were standing there I noticed it becoming more of a hug… a flirtatious hug. Alex holding me was suddenly awkward, and my muscles tensed up.
“Alex…?”
“Hm?” He apparently didn’t notice any awkwardness, or the fact that Jack was now watching us.
“Uh, what are you doing…?” I asked slowly. He immediately dropped his arms.
“What?” he exclaimed urgently, “N-nothing,” he took a small step away from me. I raised my eyebrows slightly and nodded. I saw the discomfort on his face and gave him a small, apologetic smile, feeling guilty for making things awkward. He looked down at his hands and avoided my eyes. I was racking my brain for something to say to break the tension between us, when I saw Jack coming towards us. I silently thanked him.
“Sup guys?” Jack asked, more to Alex than me.
“Just talking,” I replied. He nodded.
“I think I’m gonna get out of the water for a while,” he said.
“I’ll come too. I need to work on my tan,” I said, looking at my pale arms.
“You comin’, Alex?” Jack asked.
“What? Yeah.”
“Dude, why are you so fuckin’ distracted today…?” He asked this as if he already kinda knew the answer.
“Huh?” Jack rolled his eyes at Alex.
“WHY ARE YOU SO DISTRACTED?” Jack said louder than necessary.
“No need to yell! I’m not distracted,” Alex said.
“Whatever you say, bro. Come on Andy,” He grabbed my hand and began pulling me towards the shore.
