Never Meant to Be
Chapter Four
September 5th, 2010
Sunday
Boston’s Greatest Bar, Boston, MA
8:02 P.M.
Evangeline called Ashley to see if she was available to baby-sit. When she found out she was away for three days on a family vacation she called Talia to see if she was free to take Trenton. When she found out she was, Evangeline got dressed into a nice little black dress, and dropped Trenton off at Talia’s on the way to the bar.
Evangeline took a deep breath and went into the bar. She spotted Nathan sitting at the bar on a stool. He wore a sleeveless shirt which showed off his muscled arms and the long tribal tattoo down his right arm. She walked up and sat down next to him.
"Hey," she said. He looked up at her and smiled.
"Hey," Evangeline called over a bartender and asked for a drink. "So," she said "What lie did you tell your wife now to come here."
"That I was going out with some of the guys."
"You really shouldn't do that," said Evangeline.
"Do what?"
"Lie to her," said Evangeline.
"Then I wouldn't be able to see you." said Nathan.
"That's good," she said taking a sip of her drink.
"I haven't been able to get my mind off you." he said. She rolled her eyes. "I'm not kidding around Ang." He said. She looked back at his face and as his serious expression. She caved and said
"I haven't been able to stop thinking about you either." Nathan smiled and said
"So what's stopping you?"
"From what?" she asked.
"From admitting you still want to be with me. Cause I want to be with you too."
"You have a real family back home who love you and need you. I don't want to come between you and them. They never did anything wrong."
"You won't," he said.
"I will," she said.
"No you won't I promise." he said.
"What do you want from me? Sex?"
"No absolutely not. I still love you."
"Don't use that word." she said.
"You don't love me?" He asked. She turned away and didn't answer. "I know you still love me, I can tell." She bit her lower lip and turned back to him.
"So what if I do?" she said.
"If you do then why are you holding back?"
"Because you're not mine to love." she said. He laughed and said
"Come with me," he got up and took her by the hand and led her to the dance floor.
"I don't dance much." she said.
"Just move with my body," he said. He pulled her to him so they were facing one another. Her face was so close to his she could see the small hairs on his chin that had grown out. He moved against her And she fell into sync with him. "There you go," he said smiling at her. She could feel him getting aroused as he pushed himself closer to her. Her head was telling her to back away but her heart wanted to stay. She didn't hesitate when he moved forward and their lips met. The sensual way he kissed was exactly the way it had been two years ago. When they broke apart he whispered
"Wanna get out of here?"
"Ya," she said. "Trenton's being babysitted at my friend's house." He led her through the crowd and outside. What are you doing? She asked herself. She got into the front seat of his car and they drove to her apartment. She got out and the moment the elevator doors shut he orders her up to the wall and pressed his lips to hers. His kisses had become a lot more desperate and urgent than they had been in the bar. When they reached her floor and the doors opened they acted casually. When Evangeline unlocked the door to her apartment Nathan jumped on her again. She laughed as he lifted her up and carried her over his shoulder into her bedroom. He put her down on the bed and then leapt on top of her again. She stopped laughing and looked deep into his eyes and said
"I do love you Nathan." He smiled at her and said
"See, I can tell how you really feel. I know you well." She was surprised when he abruptly got up off of her and said
"I can stick around for a bit longer. What do you wanna do? Watch some TV?" She sat up confused.
"Are you sure that's what you want to do?" She asked.
"Why what do you want to do?" said Nathan smirking. She crossed her arms and said
"Oh I see, you're just waiting for me to tell you I want to have sex with you. You want to know how much I want you."
"Well do you want to have sex?" he said laughing.
"Well judging from that stick in your pants I'd say you want to." She said.
"Do you want to?" He asked her. "Would you Evangeline like to have sex with me Nathan? It's a yes or no question." He laughed.
"You just wanna hear me say yes," laughed Evangeline.
"Give me an answer," he said walking back and leaning over her. He lightly pressed his lips to hers again, making her entire body warm up. When he pulled away she said in a whisper
"Yes I would like to have sex with you." He didn't spare a second to start pulling his clothes off.
When Evangeline woke up the next morning she didn't expect to feel Nathan's warm body up against her asleep like he had been last night. Her expectations were met when she awoke and found the side of the bed he'd fallen asleep on was cold. She remembered Trenton and felt a little guilty for having him stay with Talia for the night but it wasn't the first. Once in awhile he'd stay there if she was getting home late. She was unsure how to feel about what had happened. He'd left her to go home to his family like she'd insisted and left her alone.
When she walked out into the kitchen she was surprised to see a note on the counter. It read:
Good morning sweetheart,
I'm sorry I had to leave early but I wouldn't know how to explain myself to Tammy if I didn't. I wish I could of stayed to be there when you wake up. I want to see your face every morning I wake up. You'll see me real soon ;)
P.S. I left you some breakfast in the microwave.
Evangeline put down the letter and opened the microwave. She found a plate of pancakes. She smiled and took them out. How early in the morning had he made these? She cut a few up and ate them before getting ready for work. She was a waitress today and would be serving breakfast at a local resturant.
When she went to pick up Trenton at Talia's she apologized a million times.
"I'm so so so sorry for leaving him here, things just got a little crazy for me last night with this one guy." she said to Talia.
"I'm glad you did." said Talia. "You really should spend more time out on dates, me and Trent had tons of fun playing Jenga together didn't we?" she said to Trenton, who was now in Evangeline's arms.
"I'll make this up to you," said Evangeline. Talia smiled and said
"It was really no problem, he can stay here anytime." Then she rushed Trenton over to the daycare before speeding to work. She made it in just in time and when she got there she got right to work. She carried a small notepad with her to write down orders and then gave them to the cook. She moved from table to table. When she got to the last table she said her usual
"Hi my name's Evangeline, I'll be your server this morning, what would you like to start off with?" She looked up to see Nathan sitting there. "What are you doing here?!" She asked shocked.
"I told you you'd see me again," he said. "I love up to much to stay away."
