An Eternal

The First Of Many

After several days, Jakob didn’t see Stella. Not at all. Not at breakfast, nor at dinner. Not in class or at the socials. When he asked his room mate about it, he told him that her room mate said that she wouldn’t speak to anyone. She just looked at the top of the building across the street.

“I can’t save whats left of you.” Her voice echoed in his mind as water choked him, filling his lungs. He gasped for air, fighting the waves that engulfed him. “Help me!” He yelled, looking up to the sky, for someone who might help him. He looked up at the top of the massive wall that protected the town from the raging sea. Standing on the wall, high above him, was Stella. The one he knew from so long ago. “Stella!” He yelled as the waves crashed over his head, pulling him under the surface. He opened his eyes, and saw her body floating at the bottom of the ocean. Her eyes were open.

He shot up in bed, sweating and gasping for air. Something was wrong. He jumped from his bed, pulling on a jacket and running out the door. Not even bothering to pull on his shoes. His feet were numb in the snow as he sprinted towards the tall building across the street. He knew he had to run there. He had to be there fast. Something told him that she would be there, and that she would do something that he would never ask for. All he wanted was for her to forget about him. He ran inside and pressed the elevator button, but found it to slow. He sprinted up the stairs, up to the tenth story. He burst out onto the rooftop and shouted,
“Stella!” He froze. She was nowhere to be seen. Slowly, he neared the ledge of the building, and forced himself to look over the edge. His breathe and heart stopped as he looked down on her body. Bleeding, crumpled, and unmoving. He had been to late.
