“Chloe what’s wrong with you?” Jade cocked an eyebrow the minute she entered the house.

“Nothing.” Chloe sank deeper into the couch, clenching a green plastic bowl in her hands.

“I can see that!” Jade rolled her eyes while taking off her scrubs. “Please don’t tell me that you’ve been glued to that couch for the past three days.” Jade sighed when she ran down on the couch.

Chloe sighed too and perked her lower lip, pouting. She took a green leaf out of the plastic bowl and shoved it into her mouth, slowly chewing.

“Chloe what the fuck is that?” Jade muttered and roughly took the bowl, “Lettuce?!” Jade exclaimed.

“I love lettuce.” Chloe said miserable while chewing.

“You’ve been munching lettuce for the past few days?! Lettuce?!” Jade called out.

Chloe’s platform pumps nervously tapped the edge of the stairs while she sat there, in the dark, waiting.

Chloe ran her gentle hands down her arms, softly caressing the skin the smelt of vanilla, exotic fruit and aromatic plants.

Her hands rested on her toned thighs and she clipped her thigh high stockings, they felt light and slippery under her fingers.


“Well I can’t snack on ice cream and chicken can I!?” Chloe said miserably.

“Why not?” Jade rolled her eyes.

“Shut up Chloe.” Jade playfully smacked her cousin across the head and made her way to the kitchen.

“Jade I’m serious! All I wanna do is eat!” Chloe called, stuffing more lettuce into her mouth.

“Chloe, the food won’t fill the void, you know…” Jade yelled from the kitchen.

“I’m so sad!” Chloe confessed miserably and felt her eyes water.

“Because of Brian?” Jade sighed while making her way back to the living room, Chloe nodded.


Chloe couldn’t help but smile to herself while her heart beat like a drum, full of anxiety, hoping that her reconciliation plan would succeed.

She stood up and her manicured fingers rested on her slim, exposed waist. She looked around the dim house, wandering what she had forgotten to prepare.


“Here.” Jade said and gave Chloe a bucket of Ben & Jerry’s.

“No!’ Chloe protested and pushed the cold bucket away.

“I want him! Not ice cream…” Chloe said. “And I can’t even call him! He probably hates my guts now Jade! I was such a bitch!” Chloe covered her face with her hands.

“Such a heartless bitch!” She added and pushed the spoon into the light buttery ice-cream.

“Well you should hurry up and make up with him! With his birthday coming up and all that…” Jade said casually and Chloe’s eyes almost popped out of their holes.


Chloe soon grabbed a lighter from the kitchen counter and lit up all of the scented candles that she placed around the house.


“His birthday?!?!?!!” Chloe exclaimed, absolutely astounded.

“Yeah, it’s like…in two days or something…” Jade shrugged.

“And you didn’t tell me!?” Chloe jumped to her feet and pushed the ice cream into Jade’s hands.

“I thought you knew! You should have-“ Jade began explaining herself.

“Well I didn’t!” Chloe panicked and searched for her phone.


She wanted to make sure that the atmosphere she was creating was as intimate and as calm as it could get.

She felt her long, loose curls lightly tickle her exposed back while she paced around the house. “I think that’s it…” Chloe sighed and returned to her spot on the top of the stairs.


She began searching her contact list for Jimmy’s number, praying she had saved it. “There you areeee!” She sighed in relief and pressed the phone to her ear.

“Hey Jimmy it’s Chloe! Yeah I’m good…Listen you gotta do me a major favor…-“


All that was left to do was to wait.

After what seemed like forever Chloe heard a car pull into Brian’s driveway and immediately rushed to the upstairs window, looking outside.

She recognized Brian’s SUV and saw that he was all alone. She had never been so anxious in her life, she couldn’t afford to screw up.

Brian began making his way to the house and Chloe grabbed the pleated tulle slip that she hung on the banister and put it on.

Chloe listened carefully to the sounds on the first floor and the second she heard Brian’s key turn in the lock, she turned on the music.

The dark shadows disguised her well and she kept her eyes on Brian while he entered the house. The minute he heard the music his head popped up and he looked around suspiciously.
