Let Me Dream, Let Me Stay.

Moment of peace.

Vanna landed on the ground, her knees hitting the moist grass beneath her. She was breathing heavy and she had placed her hand over her chest, which was moving up and down quite rapidly. Her heart rate began to increase even more as she took in her surroundings and for a moment thought that she was all alone. She exhaled and relaxed a little bit when she saw the red hair of the boy she had met only a few hours before, a few yards away.

Vanna picked herself off of the ground and walked over to the boy, who still lay on the ground motionless. She slowly tiptoed over to him, keeping her gaze glued to his still form. She stood right next to him and bent down, observing.

“Fred?” Her voice was barely above a whisper. Still, the boy lay frozen on the ground and Vanna swallowed the lump that was rising in her throat. She slowly reached out her hand to touch his shoulder. As soon as her hand made contact, the boy jumped up and tackled the small girl to the ground.

Vanna let out a small scream and lightly hit Fred on the shoulder. “Bloody hell, Fred. You scared me,” she said as she tried to catch her breath. The two sat on the ground staring at each other until they both just started to laugh. They eventually collapsed onto their backs, gazing up at the sky as various cloud formations passed by overhead.

“So where are we any way?” Vanna’s voice was low as she broke the peaceful silence. Fred waited a minute before responding. “Not exactly positive. I assume we’re in one of the fields that surround the Burrow.” Vanna nodded and once again joined Fred in looking at the clouds. She bit her lip and shifted her gaze down to her hands, which sat in her lap as she fidgeted.

“I’ve never seen them before. The Death Eaters, I mean.” Fred knew that she was serious, instead of playful, and possibly even scared. He reached his hand out tentatively, resting it on top of hers. When she did not pull away, Fred took the opportunity to try to keep her calm and relaxed. He turned onto his side, looking into her eyes. "It's alright. The masks and cloaks are scarier than they are, really. Nobody will ever let them hurt you. I won't let them hurt you." Fred's response was sincere and Vanna couldn't help but smile.

She moved her gaze over his face and smirked. She tried to stifle a laugh but couldn't hold it back. Fred looked at her with a confused look on his face and tilted his head. "What is it?" Vanna continued to giggle before responding. "You've got dirt all over your face," she said, as she once again broke into a fit of giggles. Fred joined in and rubbed his hand over his cheek before touching Vanna's cheek. "Now you do too," he said, and he laughed at the shocked expression that was painted on her face.

When all of the dirt was gone, the pair sat up and stared into the distance. Vanna reached into the pocket of her dress before pulling out a pair of thick-rimmed white glasses. She carefully took out the contacts in her eyes and placed them in a case, tucking the case in her pocket. She placed the glasses on her face and looked down. "Those contacts are bloody annoying, but my mother hates my glasses," Vanna said, as she fidgeted with the frames.

Fred sat staring at the girl in front of him. He smiled to himself as he observed how adorable she looked in her glasses. She didn't even have to try to impress him, there was just something that he found incredible about the girl in front of him. He continued to stare at her as she looked over, their gaze meeting before they both looked away. Vanna took a deep breath and wrapped her arms around her knees as she pulled them tightly to her chest. She rested he head on top and stared into the distance.

She closed her eyes and inhaled the scent of the fresh air, thankful to be away from the drama of the Wizarding World, for once. But reality sunk in, and she knew they had to go back eventually. Fred turned his head as Vanna spoke up. "How will we know when it's safe to go home?" She bit her lip as she said this, and Fred knew she was worried about her loved ones. He moved his gaze to his hands, which sat in his lap, and played with his fingers as he carefully thought of an answer. He took a deep breath and looked up at the sky. "I'm not so sure. We'll just...know." The pair once again exchanged glances and laid down in the grass, a silent rush of momentary relief washing over them.
