Eli Krauss & the Starry Eyed Girl

so grotesquely out of place

Jake lies in the sheets and watches as Fiona leaves for work. She looks down as she puts her dress on and yanks up her pink lacy underwear. This time he is the one with the self satisfied smile stretched across his face. He feels this way because he knows she enjoyed it. Jake felt the way she trembled and cried in the heat of it. And he also knows that Fiona is much too honest to go back to whatever douchebag she is dating with a straight face.

But Fiona looks up after she has completely covered herself and says, "I hope you know this doesn't mean we're together or anything."

Jake's smile falls. "What?" he asks.

"We are not together. I'm seeing someone else. I shouldn't have done that. I really should not have done that."

Jake suddenly says, "Are you still gonna fucking see that guy?"

She stiffens in surprise and then looks at him for a hard second. "Yes. If he will still have me after I tell him what just happened."

Jake is shocked into silence and watches the girl he just made love to walk out of the apartment.

"I have to talk to you," Fiona says.

They are alone after closing up. Eli bends down and kisses her lips. "Can't you tell me later?" he asks playfully and continues to place his lips on hers. She pulls away from him and pushes a strand of her hair back. "No. I can't."

He stiffens and says, "What is it?" Fiona tries to find the courage to spit it out. She needs to tell him. She absolutely has to tell him. So before she knows it, she says, "I slept with my ex."

Eli's eyes find Fiona's. Hers are starting to drip. He then asks very seriously, "When?"

"This morning," she whispers even more quietly.

He doesn't know what to say. At first, he feels that horrible wounded feeling that comes with something so grotesquely out of place. And then he realizes that it is okay because he has his own secrets that he will never, ever tell Fiona in a million years. In fact, he would prefer she had kept it to herself. They are not together. This is only company. This is what runs through his mind.

She watches him contemplate. His face has reverted back to the usual stern expression that plagues it. Fiona is biting her lips and feels the irony taste of blood on her tongue. "Eli, I'm really, really sorry. It was a big, fat mistake. I am so sorry," she whispers.

Eli puts his hand up, signaling for her to stop. "You didn't have to tell me. It's fine."

Fiona wipes at her red stained lips and whispers, "What?"

"It's fine. I don't care."

Immediately, Fiona translates this into, "I don't care about you."

"Oh," she says and continues with, "Do you still like me?"

Eli reaches over and musses up her hair. "Of course." He bends down and kisses her again.

There is a long moment of locked lips before Eli pulls away and holds onto Fiona's face. She is panting and can feel his breath on her lips as he growls, "Just don't fuck him again," before kissing her once more.
