There Was A New Girl In Town
Seventh Grade.
The start of the hell-hole that most refer to as Junior High.
And to make it even worse, I had just moved to Tempe, Arizona from Baltimore. I knew nobody. I was horrified to go to school.
It was first period science with Mrs. Plott. She was old and wrinkly and looked like a witch.
I sat in the back while everyone around me talked to their friends. The boy next to me had a whole group of guys intently listening to a story he was telling. I was watching him exaggerate everything with a smile on my face.
In the middle of a sentence, he looked over at me and smiled. I blushed and looked down.
"Hey," the boy said. "I'm Garrett Nickelsen." He stuck his hand out for me to shake.
I took it and said, "Ashlie Allen. I just moved here."
"Well then," Garrett said, "Welcome to Arizona."
And that was the start of our amazing friendship.
