Broken Hearts and Shattered Dreams
I watched as my father fell to the ground. Something red was dripping down his neck to his shirt.
"Daddy?" I asked as I took a step forward. "There's a ketchup stain on your shirt."
Me being just a five-year old, I was oblivious to reality. Thinking that we're going to stay a perfect family. Together.
Forever.
His eyes turned toward me, his mouth agape.
"Madeline. Run." With that he slumped down and his eyes became lifeless. Chuckling sounded around the room and I looked up at the person's eyes in fear.
His blue eyes.
Cold.
Steely.
Terrifying.
Ones I'm likely never to forget.
I turned around to go, but his words stopped me.
"Run, little Madeline. For no matter how far you go, I'll always find you."
I turned around and ran. Those words stayed with me for as long as I remember. I had never seen the face of that murderer. His face was bathed in shadows. But, if I happened to meet him again, I'll kill him.
All that happened on my fifth birthday.
Death to all vampires.
