I woke up to a knock on my door. What time is it? I looked at my wall. It's 4am.

It's shift change, who the fuck is knocking on my door and why is it always knocks on my door that wake me up?

I sighed and got up off my bed to get the door. I opened it.

It was Gerard.

He looks a little.. High?

"What are you doing?"

He giggled, "I came to see my little Frankie, obviously!"

He leaned in for a hug, I stepped back.

"You smell like weed and alcohol."

He giggles again.

"Of course I do! I snuck out after our shower. I was wondering if you wanted to hang out out back with me."

I felt tears building up.

"I thought you were here to quit drinking. We're here to get help."

Gerard stopped smiling.

"Frank.. Why are you mad?"

"You're still an alcoholic. Why?"

"Drunk Gerard is more interesting. Drunk me is better than the real me, Frank."

I sighed. "Let's go for a walk. We have a few hours before we're woken up."

He nodded.

"Can I bring my songs?"

"Yes, Gee."

He smiled, "Are you still mad?"

"Yes."

He sighed and looked down.

"I'm sorry."

I looked at him. He's all sweaty and gross and his hair is in his face. He looks broken.

"Why are you sorry?"

He didn't look up at me.

"I'm sorry that you're stuck with a fuck up."

"I'm sorry that you got stuck with a fuck up, too."

He looked up and tried to smile. It's probably the best he can manage right now.

I tried to smile too.

I looked over at where we went out for a smoke. "Let's sit here."

He looked over to the spot, smiled, then nodded.

"I'm trying to get better."

"I know."

He leaned over and put his head on my shoulder.

"Do you want to hear a song I wrote?"

I kissed his forehead. "Of course."
