Jacob's POV

Why am I still here?

I turned on my side in my small bed. Bella's happily married. She picked him over me. I clenched my fists as memories of her wedding night flashed in my head. My heart felt as if it was being cut in half. Why him? Why am I still here?

'Jacob!!' My dad called. 'Sam just called a pack meeting!!!'

That's why.

Sam and the rest of the pack begged me to stay. I never really left them. I always knew what was going in La Push due to the mind connection pack. I saw through their pleas. If I leave, they feel my pain. They are affected. I sighed and heaved myself off the bed.
I looked around the room for a jeans and slipped them on. I brushed my teeth quickly and went to the kitchen.

'Do you want breakfast?' Billy asked as he rolled in.

I shook my head,'I'm sure Emily made a buffet.'

Billy chuckled,'I'll be over at Sue's.'

I smirked,'You and Sue are together a lot these days.'

Billy laughed,'She does get lonely since Seth and Leah are in school and pack business and such.'

I nodded,' 'Kay. I'm heading out.' I heard him mutter a goodbye as I left through the back door. I took off my jeans and tied them around my ankle. Almost immediately, the flash of heat spread down my back and I closed my eyes as my body beacame a body of a wolf.

Phasing was like second nature to me ever since I spent three months as a wolf. I was closer to the shapeshifter side of me than ever before. I pushed myself to run as fast as lightning to Sam's. I blew past trees and jumped over logs. I felt free, no responsiblities, no worries. I sighed as the familiar log house came into view. I closed my eyes and concentrated on becoming human. I slipped on myjeans and entered the noisy house.

'Hey man.' Embry greeted me. He didn't take his eyes of the wrestling match between Paul and Quil. 'Emily has food.'

I smiled tightly,'Of course.' I followed the sound of Emily's humming to the kitchen. I stopped in the doorway as I saw Sam holding Emily in his arms. My heart panged. I would never meet someone to hold lovingly. Bella was the only one for me. Why I didn't imprint on her? I shook my head and quietly took my plate stacked high with eggs and bacon. I found a quiet spot away from the rowdiness and ate.

I wasn't hungry so I pushed away my food and closed my eyes. Images of Bella danced beneath my eyelids. She was wearing her wedding dress and was dancing but she wasn't dancing with Edward. It was me. Bella was smiling as we danced around and around in circles. In the back of my mind, a voice was telling me to wake but this dream was too good.

'JACOB!!!!' Sam shouted. All eyes turned to me.

I shook my head,'Yes Sam?'

Sam growled under his breath and Emily nudged him,'Did you hear a word Seth said?'

I looked down,'No. Sorry.'

Sam rolled his eyes,'Seth, will you please repeat your story?'

Seth smiled at me,'I was fooling around last night along the outermost perimeter and I found a new trail!!'

I frowned,'A new trail? We've covered most of La Push.All of sudden there's a new trail?'

Quil shook his head,'We haven't the whole of La Push.We've been doing perimeters based on keeping bloodsuckers out. We haven't really......scoutedthe whole ofLa Push.'

'So what are we going to do?' Paul asked.

Sam pursued his lips,'Let's go check it out. It may prove useful.'

'And who knows where it goes!!' Seth was bouncing in hisseat with excitement. 'And what we can find!!'

The pack laughed at his eagerness. Sam playfully ruffled his hair. 'We'll be back before nightfall.' He kissed Emily quickly and led us outside. I phased and waited for the others.

~Okay, I went north...Seth sniffed the air, this way!!~

$ Lead the way Seth.$ Sam commanded falling right behind him.

Seth lead us way outside our usual routes. Everyone was excited. The forest had opened up into a little grassland which wasn't big but buzzing with life. Rabbits poked their heads out of holes. I saw a few deer gallop away. I growled in content as I felt the sun warm my back.

*Dude, this place is amazing!!!* Embry said as we entered the grassland.

(You can say that again) Paul said.

I looked up and saw the sea. It wasn't the rough, angry waters of First Beach. The sea was peaceful, sparkling in the sunlight.

#We're definitely not near La Push anymore# I said.

Paul started to climb a little rock cliff. Every step he took sent down little showers of pebbles and shale.

@Dude, that doesn't look safe@ Jared looked at Paul warily.

(What's the worst that can happen?)

He spoke too soon. Out of nowhere, a huge black wolf tackled Paul to the ground and started attacking him. Everyone jumped back in shock. Paul bit back with all his strength but the wolf was strong. Sam and I were the first to recover and we launched ourselves at the wolf. Adrenaline coursed through my veins. We were stopped by two other wolves. Sam stood back snarling at a dark red wolf. I snarled and raised my hackles at a dark brown wolf. I tried to get past him but he wasn't letting me go. The whole pack was growling now as the three wolves circled us. Suddenly, a long howl pierced the air.

Everyone looked to the top of the cliff. Standing at the peak was a beautiful midnight blue wolf. I was spellbound as a slight breeze ruffled the fur. Next to that wolf was a dark gray wolf. The three wolves who had us surrounded howled in reply.

$They have us. But........wolves? Out here?$

%I thought only Quileutes were supposed to have the ability.% Leah said softly.

(They're strong. But it's a small pack)

#The bluish wolf is the Alpha# I reluctantly tore my eyes away.

All the new wolves growled angrily but the blue wolf growled lower. The growl was full with command. They whined and nodded. The blue wolf closed its eyes and we felt the air shimmer.

~Should we look away?~

We didn't need to because with a simple backflip, the wolf disappeared and in its place stood a beautiful girl.
