The Beach

02- I'll See You In My Dreams

Sawyer looked out the window, knowing that soon enough Alex would be walking on the beach to the house to stay with her for the summer. His family didn’t come anymore, since it was just him and his parents, and Alex was gone a lot. But Alex still came, and he came straight to Sawyer. Which was by all means ok with Sawyer, because she was the only one in her family that came anymore either. She was a computer programmer, so she was able to, mostly, work from where ever she chose. And for two months every year, she chose to work from Virginia Beach.

Sawyer had spent the last week and a half cleaning the summer home of the dust that had gathered during its vacancy, working on some of her outstanding projects, and also just enjoying the beach, and the peace and quiet that it brought.

Alex would be arriving soon. She knew his tour had ended yesterday, and within the next few days, she was sure that he would be making his appearance at the beach. She would look out the windows for the next few days and she would see him, bags in tow, walking up the sand covered pathway to spend part of his summer with her. It was just an unspoken agreement that they always met at the beach.

Neither of them could stay away, or at least, Sawyer knew that she couldn’t. Nor did she even want to try.

The beach had sprouted something in her that she couldn’t explain. Her best friend called it love, but Sawyer brushed it off. Sawyer just felt alive at the beach, and yes, part of that was because of Alex.

The second summer that Alex had come, they were both 17 and it became all too apparent to Sawyer how well Alex had grown into himself in the year since she had last laid eyes on him. His hair seemed to engulf most of his head, the bangs constantly falling in his face in the most adorable manner. His brown eyes held a twinkle that she was sure wasn’t there before. His smile seemed to be almost intoxicating, addicting even, drawing her to him. And he had grown, filled out and was no longer just a lanky kid, but now a full grown man in front of her.

It had taken everything Sawyer had not to let her jaw drop.

And Alex had been stunned at the sight of Sawyer, because he wasn’t the only one to have grown into themselves over the summer. Sawyer’s chest was more prominent, her hips curving just enough to define a small hour glass figure on her still tiny frame. Her hair had been left to grown longer, and it flower to mid waist, the long layers falling to frame her body. Her eyes seemed to sparkle with mischief and excitement, and her smirk was irresistible.

It had taken Alex everything he had not to try and take her right there.

Sawyer smiled as she looked out of the windows of the front room to the beach, watching as the families played together in the sand, the couples spending their time away to enjoy themselves, and the calming air that seemed to surround the still somewhat noisy beach.

She would soon be one of the couples on the beach, it would be her and Alex, spending their time together until one of them had to leave to return to the real world. They would walk the beach with linked hands, cuddle on a beach blanket in the night sky and watch the stars, and just enjoy each other’s presence.

That’s another thing that Sawyer loved about the beach. The beach was almost its own entity, a separate universe where real life stopped while her second life, Sawyer’s dream life, started once again, almost like it had been a movie put on pause. Her time spent at the beach never seemed to align with what reality, because things were different at the beach. Sure, she had to work a bit, but nothing else from her life in California crossed into Virginia Beach. It was just Sawyer, and just anything that she could imagine. Life in Virginia Beach was just a dream, a very good, long lasting dream.

Sawyer was beginning to grow giddy at the thought of Alex coming, mainly because she didn’t actually know when he would be arriving. She didn’t need him to confirm that he would be making an appearance, because Alex always did.

Sawyer and Alex were just entirely wrong for each other in all the right ways. They would never work in reality, because they existed in only the dream that was Virginia Beach.

And the dream was starting, which could only mean that Alex would be arriving, because the dream always started that way.

It always started with Sawyer and Alex, smiling nervously at each other with lust in their eyes, ready to escape reality for the rest of the summer.
