Unmasked (A Cinderella Story)

Chapter 2

Chapter 2:

"We've been invited to the ball, A masquerade ball!" Alex said again.

"Oh mother are we going?" Liz asked.

Silence.

"Maybe" I heard Mothers voice.

"Oh please mother!" I heard both Elisabeth and Alexandra beg.

More silence. Then a sigh.

"Fine"

"Oh Really?!" Alexandra asked.

"Oh yes, Yes, But-" Mother started.

"But what?"

"The ball is tomorrow night"

"We'll be ready!" Liz and Alex promised together.

"Okay then, But-" Mother started again, But stopped later being replaced by footsteps.

Quickly, I stood up and ran to the other hallway corner.

The door opened and mother walked out along with Elisabeth and Alexandra behind her.

"Make sure nobody finds out about this, especially your sister" She finished.

They both nodded and walked away.

A Masquerade ball.

"What's the matter? Why the look on your face?" Harriet asked when I walked back into the kitchen.

"I Found out there's going to be a masquerade ball" I Told her.

She gasped.

"The king is having one?" She asked.

I Shrugged.

"Well what are you going to wear?"

"What do you mean?" I asked," I'm Not going"

"Why of course you are!" She said," You have to!"

"Why?"

"I Read the invitation, All family members have to go, especially the females" She looked at me.

Then she put her hands on her hips.

"She didn't invite you did she?"

I Shook my head, " She didn't even want me to know about it"

"I Swear That Woman-!" She turned, "She is the worst of mothers!"

She started walking out of the kitchen.

"Wait!" I Grabbed her arm and turned her to face me, "You're not going to tell her are you?" My Eyes widened.

She looked away.

"You Can't!" I Yelled.

"Then Who Will?" She asked me.

"No One"

"Mary, Is is your mother is isn't supposed to treat you this way, If you're father were here-"

"Well he's Not!" I Cut her off.

I Never liked it when they mention my father. He passed away due to a heart attack, Leaving me with my evil mother. With him, It was like the opposite way of how my mother treated me. He would always look out for me and he even hated they way mother would treat me compared to her other daughters. I Missed him since he died. But now he's gone, There's nothing I Could do about it.

She stayed silent.

I Took a deep breath and started again.

" It's just a ball" I Said calmly.

"This isn't about that" She snapped.

She looked away again, Then Back.

"It's about how she's not even including you as her daughter," She finished.

I Stayed quiet.

"You're Going" She finally Said.

"I Can't" I Told her," She'll never let me"

"And who says we need her permission?" She smiled when she finished at sentence.

"What Do You-?" I Stopped.

I Knew Exactly What she meant.
