Disenchanted

Chapter 14

Kitty walked close to her mother as they walked through the snowy and icy streets of London. They were doing last minute shopping. It was to be an early Christmas for the Jenkin’s, for do to recent events, Kitty was to be going to spend the really Christmas and New Years with the Weasley’s and Harry. This all was from Dumbledore, a protective charm was to be placed over
the Jenkin house hold as soon as the eldest daughter had departed.

“Mummy, can we go look at toys pleeeaaasssee” Baily glanced up at her mother, tugging down on the tails of her coat, causing Bonnie to roll her eyes in annoyance.

“You have enough toys as it is,” Kitty tried reasoning with her sister, who was just desparate to get home, and leave, to insure the safety of her family.

“But I want one, no I need one!” Baily whined tugging her Mother into the store, while Bonnie could only stare in annoyance.

“I’ll stay outside with the bags.” Kitty said simply taking a seat on the bench outside of the small shop. Her mother gave her a very hesitant look, “Mum I’ll be fine. If anything happens, I have my wand or I’ll just yell bloody murder.”

“It’s not something to be taken lightly.” Mrs. Jenkin’s said seriously, “Be wary.

Draco ignored the stares Muggle children gave him as he Apparated into the center of town, just at the opening of an alley way. Adults didn’t find it suspicious; Muggle Children just held inner battles as to whether the blonde boy had performed magic, or if he was a figment of their imaginations.
The small piece of paper holding seven numbers was crumpled in Malfoy’s fist as he treaded towards the center of the Muggle town, treading through the snow, before he entered a small store.

“Hello dear.”

Draco grimaced uncertainly as the woman behind the counter gave him a smile, before he headed towards the back of the shop. He gazed curiously at bright colored candles, blank journals, and make-up.

“Looking for something in particular,” the woman asked, causing him to jump as she stood directly behind him, “For a girl perhaps.”

Draco blushed darkly, before he spoke, “Yes. It’s a type of candy, actually.”

The woman nodded, motioning him to follow her, as they entered a different aisle, “What type exactly.”

“I don’t know.” Draco grimaced, “They have gold wrappings and are cherry flavored.”

The woman nodded with a smile, as she took a large box from the shelf, “These are Delafee’s. Does your girlfriend like them?”

Draco ignored the awkward feeling as the woman questioned him, but he nodded none the less,

“Yes. She does.”
“Well she had very good taste.” the woman smiled, walking back towards the front. Draco’s eyes scanning over the different gifts on the shelves, where he immediately grabbed another little item that caught his eye.

“Will that be all for you?” the woman asked with a smile, as Draco nodded, and handed him the single Muggle Money bill, and watched as she opened the register, and broke the bill into coins,

“Thank you very much dear, make sure she takes care of that chain, contains a lot of luck, if you believe in magic and such.”

Draco offered a small hesitant smile, as the woman handed him a brown bag, “Thank you.”
Walking out of the store, with change in his pocket he scanned the town square for the red telephone booth Kitty had told him about. Walking towards one, he pulled out the small piece of parchment and the coins, which he studied for a moment, before putting the coins in the slot.

Kitty watched as families walked by with their children, who at the sight of the Toy Store, giggled at hauled their parents in. She gazed up at the sky, watching as the dark clouds covered the white ones, before she felt a light buzzing in her purse. Tugging in out, she glanced confused at the number, before she smiled, knowing exactly who it was.

“Draco?” Kitty asked hopefully.

“This is very strange for me Jenkin’s.”

Kitty couldn’t help but laugh as the boy drawled, and just pictured him glanced at the phone with an unsure/disgusted look on his face.

“How so?”

“Muggle technology is very strange.” Draco stated, shaking his head, as he stared out the red box with a smirk, “But it beats reading what you have to say, I’d rather here it.”

Kitty couldn’t help but allow her face to grown warm as the boy talked, “That’s flattering in a sense.”

Draco could only smile to himself, “I read about what happened to your town in the Prophet.”

Kitty’s heart faltered, before she sighed, “Mmm. Greyback, the Muggle was taken to Saint
Mungo’s... he didn’t survive.”

Draco closed his eyes, “I know.”

Kitty remained silent.

“How’s your Holiday going?” Draco asked, trying to ease the conversation once more.

“It’s not going how I planned.” Kitty said dryly, “I’m leaving my parents tomorrow-”

Why?” Draco interrupted without hesitation. Feeling the gifts in his pocket growing heavier.

“Dumbledore, suggested it.” Kitty sighed, “After what happened, he thought it would be best.”

Draco nodded, “He does know best.”

Kitty felt her own stomach drop, and Draco suddenly felt nauseous.

“Where are you going to be?” he asked, leaning against the glass of the small cubicle, “I-I have something to send to you.”

Kitty smiled to herself, “You didn’t have to-”

“Where will you be staying?” Draco asked with an eye roll.

“The Weasley’s.”

Draco held back a sneer, “You’ll be safe.”

“Yeah.” Kitty sighed.

The two remained silent on either line, listening to the sound of each other’s breathing. Kitty sighed however as her sister’s and mother walked out of the store.

“I have to go.” Kitty sighed, “Give me ring soon?”

Draco laughed, “If I don’t develop claustrophobia.”

Kitty smiled at the sound of his laugh, “We’ll see. Happy Christmas Draco.”

The blonde boy stood in the booth a minute longer after he hung the phone back up. A smile on his face as he glanced at the golden chain with a grin.

Kitty sat comfortably on the couch between Fred and George Weasley, as the three talked about new products. Their inspiration, their brother’s chapped lips from too much snogging. Ginny giggled, and glanced at Harry, who would’ve smiled back had he not have been glaring at Kitty.

“Merry Christmas All!”

Glancing up Kitty smiled as Remus and Tonks entered the room with smiles, and snow on top of their heads, the duo entered the house with presents in arms. Lupin, with a limp, and slow scares making their way onto his face.

“Kitty, Ginny, will you two girls come into the kitchen.” Mrs. Weasley called out loudly, poking her head through the door way, “Harry, Ron you too, please!”

“Mum, Harry and I wanted to talk-”

Now Ronald.”

Ginny gave Kitty an annoyed eye roll, before the two girls walked into the kitchen, where knives were thrust into their hands, as long with a large basket of carrots, onions, and yams.

“I would really appreciate the help, girls.” Mrs. Weasley smiled.

“But, Mum-”

“Not a problem Mrs. Weasley...” Kitty answered quickly, tugging her friend by the arm where the both sat down at the table.

“Now, would you two boys start peeling turnips for me?” Mrs. Weasley asked dangerously, starring at Ron who’s lips were on the edge of saying, ‘No.’

Ginny and Kitty, set to work quietly, only offering agitated sighs as their conversation, why the two boys stood close to the sink, talking, whispering. One word however, caught Kitty’s attention.

“Malfoy-”

“What are you going on about now?” Kitty asked loudly, causing Harry and Ron to both jump.

“Just theories.” Ron stated while Harry glared at him before turning his stare to Kitty who normally would have rolled her eyes at any theories or conclusions involving Malfoy, but instead she remained silent almost resilient.

“Theories of what?” Kitty asked curiously, watching as Harry smirked at the girl and placed his vegetable peeler down on the counter. The silence gathered Ginny’s attention and she stared between the older trio.

“You said I ditched you at the Party.” Harry said, “I was actually doing something that could seem important-”

“Depending the way you look at it.” Ron said thoughtfully, causing Kitty to roll her eyes.

“I followed Snape and Malfoy-”

RON! GINNY! Come here please.”

Kitty watched with an unsure face as the siblings left the kitchen, before she turned back to Harry.

“But, maybe you already knew that the two were talking.” Harry said seriously, “After all you did come out with Draco from the room of Requirement.”
Kitty pulled her hand away as the knife cut deeply into her thumb, “What are you talking about?”

“What do you know Kitty.” Harry said earnestly, his tone of voice reminded Kitty of Hermione’s and she couldn’t help but feel sick, “This is important.”

“What do you know, Harry.” Kitty said immediately, coming to what could be considered Draco’s defense, “You could be jumping to conclusions as usual.”

“I know what I heard.” Harry said angrily, watching as the girl’s eyes narrowed dangerously. “I heard Snape offering help to Malfoy, about something that he had to do. And that Snape made the unbreakable vow-”

Kitty rolled her eyes, and Harry narrowed his eyes at her, “Harry, what if Snape is just as suspicious of Malfoy as you are, what if he made the unbreakable vow to just watch over him, Lucius is in Azkaban after all."

“I don’t put as much thought in finding the good in people as you do, Kitty.” Harry stated darkly, causing the girl to pale immediately, “But I’m going to find out what’s going on."

“Kitty, Harry-”

The two Gryffindor’s said nothing as Mrs. Weasley walked into the kitchen, stopping as she stared between the two glaring friends.

“Good luck with that Harry.” Kitty hissed, “Paranoia and immediately hating another won’t get you anywhere.”
