You Belong With Me

Visitors

As I grabbed another Kleenex to blow my nose with, I groaned. Though the kiss Daniel and I shared was absolutely amazing, I couldn't help but think we were being stupid by standing out in the cold rain. I had caught a cold that caused me to take off work for a little while. All I did was lay around on the couch wrapped up in a blanket and watch TV.

I also couldn't help but think about Tom. I still had feelings for him. The kiss between Daniel and I hadn't changed that, but it did also make me feel something for Daniel. It wasn't as powerful as the feelings I had for Tom, but it was still something. My head was spinning from all the confusion I felt.

As I wrapped the blanket tighter around me and sighed, I heard a knock on my door.

"Who is it?!" I croaked out.

"Emma!"

"Just use your key!" I yelled out.

I heard the sound of my door being unlocked and swung open. The door closed and I heard her walking towards me.

"What's up with you?" she asked as she looked over me.

"What does it look like?" I asked. "I have a cold."

"How did that happen?"

I hadn't informed Emma about what happened between me and Daniel. I wanted to wait till I could tell her in person.

"From staying out in the pouring, cold rain," I said.

"Why would you do such a stupid thing as that?" she asked.

"You think kissing is stupid?" I asked her.

"What does that have to do with it?" she asked, curiously.

I watched as she finally put two and two together. Her eyes became wide and she was smiling.

"Oh my God!" she squealed. "Who was it?! Why wasn't I informed of this as soon as it happened?!"

"Did you expect me to just call you up and tell you right after it happened?"

"Yes," she said. "Now, tell me who it was."

I stayed quiet as she stared at me. It was amusing watching her squirm.

"Daniel," I said.

Her eyes widened more if that was possible. Next thing I knew, she was jumping up and down while squealing. It was obvious she was excited.

"I knew it! I knew it would happen. I want details, Abigail Marie Parker, and I want them now!"

I began telling her the events after she took a seat in the arm chair. She listened intently and smiled the whole time.

"Does this mean you have feelings for him?" she asked after I told her everything.

"Obviously," I said, "but there's still Tom."

"Oh my God, Abbie," she said as she rolled her eyes. "Forget about Tom. You have a great guy right in front of you that wants you. Tom is engaged to another woman. Don't waste your time on him anymore."

I mentally rolled my eyes. She had told me the same thing a million times before. She just didn't get it.

"It's hard to just forget about the feelings I have for him too," I said. "Kissing another guy isn't going to just make them disappear."

"You're a hard woman to deal with," she said as she sighed.

"If I'm so hard to deal with then why am I still your best friend?"

"Because you give me a challenge," she said, "and I love you. You're like a sister to me."

"I love you, too," I said. "Even though you're hard to deal with as well."

"How am I hard to deal with?" Emma asked with a questioning look.

"You're bossy," I said as if it should have been obvious.

"I am not bossy!" she said, shocked. "You take that back right now!"

"Point proven," I said as I smiled.

She crossed her arms over her chest and glared at me. I laughed at her. She was acting just like a child.

"I'll get it," she said as she stood up and walked to it.

"Bring me some more tea while you're at it," I said.

"Tom, what a pleasant surprise," I heard Emma say when she opened the door.

I looked over at the door quickly. Sure enough, Tom was standing there. I hadn't expected to see him. We hadn't talked since the day he had invited me to hang out with him.

"Hi, Emma," he said as he walked in. "Didn't know you would be here."

"Well, I came over to talk to Abbie," she said and looked over at me. "She's under the weather though. I think I'm going to leave now. I'm suppost to be meeting up with a friend. You can watch over her I assume?"

What was I? A five year old?

"Yeah," he said. "Of course. Have a good time."

"Thank you," she said. "Bye, Abbie. Hope you get better soon."

"Bye, Emma," I said. "Thank you."

I watched as she walked out the door, leaving me and Tom alone. He took off his coat and hung it up on the coat rack.

"To what do I owe the pleasure?" I asked him.

"I felt like I haven't seen you in forever," he said. "I thought I would drop by and see how you were."

"I guess it's obvious how I am," I said and grabbed a Kleenex quickly to sneeze in.

"Obviously," he said. "Need anything?"

"Tea, please," I said. "Help yourself to some as well."

Tom came back into the living room with tea for the both of us a little while later. He pulled my feet up and sat down on the couch with me.

"May not want to get too close," I said.

"Why not?" he asked. "I've been around you when you've been sick before. What's going to stop me now?"

"Good point," I said and I took a sip of my tea.

"How did you go and get yourself sick?" he asked.

"I was out in the rain the other day with Daniel," I said.

"Why were you two out in the rain?"

I kept quiet for a minute as I tried to decide how I should answer him. I didn't really want to tell him the truth.

"We were just walking around and it started raining on us," I said.

"Oh," he said. "Did you two have a good time?"

"Yeah," I said. "We had a great time. What did you wind up doing?"

"I just stayed home and waited for Jade to get back," he said. "Gave me some time to come up with some new songs."

"That's good," I said, wanting to roll my eyes. I still hated it when he mentioned her. "About time you did."

"Yeah," he said. "It's been hard to with what all is going on right now."

"I'm sure," I simply said.

We sat quietly together watching TV for a while before my cell phone started ringing. I looked at the screen to find it to be Daniel.

"Hi, Daniel," I said after I answered it.

I seen Tom look away from the TV and look at me.

"Hi, Abbie," he said. "Feeling any better?"

"I'm getting there," I said.

"That's good," he said. "I shouldn't have kept us out in the rain, though, I can't say I regret it. I just wish you wouldn't have gotten sick."

"It's alright," I said. "It was as much my fault as yours."

"I guess so," he said. "How about I come by with some soup and a movie later?"

"That sounds really nice," I said as I smiled.

"Alright," he said. "I'll see you later."

"Bye, Daniel."

I ended the call and looked over at Tom. He was looking at the TV again, but it didn't look like he was paying attention to what was on.

"I think I'm going to go now," he said as he stood up.

"So soon?" I asked.

"Yeah," he said. "I'm sure Jade is wondering where I am right now."

"Oh...okay then," I said a little disappointed.

"Hope you feel better soon," he said as he walked to the door and put his coat on.

"Thanks," I said as I watched him open the door and leave.

I sighed in frustration and leaned my head back. Tom seemed to be acting differently and I had no idea why. All I knew was I didn't like it.
