Failure is the Best Way to Learn

Ellena: Habits

I stare at my therapist. Dumbfounded by her latest question.

"How is Ally? You haven't brought her up in a while."

"She's Ally. She still has straight A's and she never stutters or says 'like' a million times a day. She has the perfect boyfriend her parents leave her alone now..." I say trailing off.

"What do you mean? You sound like you resent Ally."

"I could never resent one of my friends. I guess I might be a little jealous..."
"Only a little?"

"Well..."
"Of her boyfriend maybe?"

"What?! No. He's too old for me."
"Oh. Well did you think at all about what I said last time?"

"Oh. Failure is the best way to learn. Well I thought about it. I don't get it though. If I fail how am I ever going to learn? Like in school. I fail stuff all the time, even when I study for a test all night I still fail. I'm not learning anything by that."

"I want you to think that part over again for next week. Think about your habits."

"Okay..."

"Goodbye Ellena."

"Bye."

What the hell does she mean by habits?
