Cursed

Kieran.

A date, how cute. It was even cuter due to the cliché-ness of what it consisted of. Eating out at a restaurant that was beyond good. Really, why did I not eat there before? It was damn good! Finn best be knowin’ that he’ll be taking us there again. Then we went to see a movie, which I was a bit reluctant about. You know, pixies like dark places like that but I felt since Finn was there he’d protect me from the damn little buggers.

“Pixies are almost as bad as the gnomes!” I holler from my place on the couch. By the look Finn is sporting, he doesn’t believe me. He never does! You’d think since he isn’t human he’d believe in these kinds of thinks but he doesn’t. What a loser! “They like dark places and hide beneath your bed waiting to pounce.”

“I had no idea,” Finn laughs. “Are they under all beds?”

“Yes! And if you aren’t careful they’ll lay babies in your ears so they can eat up the mush of your brain!”

“Oh no.”

“I do not appreciate the disbelief in your tone, Finnegan.” I cross my arms and pout. Finn leans over to me, running his lips over my neck. Softly, he presses his lips to my neck then pulls away.

“I’m sorry, please forgive me and my non-believing ways.” Finn’s arms wrap themselves around me, tugging me into his chest. I bite my lip. I should be angry with him because not believing in gnomes…that in itself should be considered a heinous crime! But…I can’t stay mad at him.

“I hate you.” I don’t think the way I curl into him helps to back up what I said. Finn inhales my scent, kisses my temple and rubs my side.

“Yeah, of course you do.”

Finn’s home phone rings and since his parents aren’t home we have to answer it. Finn hands the phone to me and I hear my mother telling me that she’s just down the street visiting some friends and she’d like me to come down so instead of Finn having to drive me home she can. I agree and say good-bye, place a kiss to Finn’s lips and leave.

A cold chill runs up my spine as I walk down the street. Shivering, I stop walking and look at my bare arms. Bare? I could have sworn I wore a jacket! What even…? The gnomes, they’re stealing my jackets now!

“I probably just forgot it at Finn’s,” I whine, turning on my heel and heading back. I was over half way to where mom was at and now I have to turn back. I’m going to freeze to death! I am going to freeze into a human popsicle and some creepy old guy is going to have to come and lick me to freedom!

If that were the case I think I’d rather freeze to death…unless Finn offers to lick me free. I’d be fine with that, hehe.

I skip back to Finn’s, not even bothering to knock because honestly…there’s no reason to. Finn and his parents have a freaky sense of smell. I swear his mother could probably find me from ten miles away. I wish I had a sense of smell like that…well maybe not. Imagine if someone farted…yuck!

After opening the door I go still. The once tidy house looked as if a tornado had gone through. The couch is flipped, lamps and pictures cracked and blood on the floor. What looks like claw marks make their way up the steps. I take a step into the kitchen, reaching for a knife that lay on the counter and that’s when I hear Finn’s pained shout.

Without thinking of the consequences, I bolt up the stairs, heart racing. His bedroom door is wide open when I arrive and what I see inside makes me act on impulse. Tommy was the closest one and I mentally apologize to Shailey for this.

Tommy screams out in pain when he feels the blade dig deep into the flesh of his back. My entire body is shaking with fear but it doesn’t stop me from pulling the blade out, kicking Tommy into Dana who had no time to react and grabbing Finn.

Finn pulls out his keys and the both of us jump in his car. The tires screech loudly as he peels out of the drive way, pressing down the street at fast as his car can go. I’m breathing heavily, so is he. Shaking, I look down at my blood covered hands. The knife still rests in my hands. It slips down to the floor after I start screaming.

“Kieran…I’m sorry, I’m so sorry,” Finn says just barely above a whisper from his seat beside me. He reaches over for me, grabbing my wrist and holding it tightly. Now that we’re in the car, I finally manage to get a good look at him.

His face has a rather large, dark bruise on the left side. His clothes are torn, probably from turning sometime during the tussle with Shailey’s parents.

“They…they were going to kill you, weren’t they?” I cry, forgetting all about the red on my hands and grabbing Finn’s hand. I hold it tightly in my own.

Finn doesn’t answer verbally so I know the answer. Sniffling, I rub my eyes with my arm. Though I knew this would happen I still wish it hadn’t. What are we going to do? Where are we going to go? They’re probably right behind us!

“W-What are w-we gonna do, Finn?”

“We need to see my aunt first,” Finn replies, pulling onto the road to take us there. “She’ll help us.”

“What about Shailey? She’s going to get in trouble unless she follows you!” I don’t even want to think about what they’ll do to her if she doesn’t do as they say. Shailey shouldn’t be involved in this. We’re her friends. How can someone expect for her to betray us?

Finn frowns and leans over quickly to kiss me, calming me only slightly. The car ride falls silent afterwards, neither of us sure of what to talk about. There’s so much, really. What are we going to do now? Where are we going to go? What about Shailey, Finn’s parents and my own? What if we’re caught?

Too many questions with no answers. I just hope Finn’s aunt can help us some way.
