Hymn For The Missing

1/1

Where are you now?

She walked into the cold, empty cemetery, as she clutched the flowers she had bought.
It was the middle of winter, but she never felt the cold wind nipping at her face. She had been numb for months.
No pain she ever suffered in life could ever add up to the pain she felt that day, as she walked through the rows and rows of graves.
No tears stained her cheeks; She had no more to cry.

Are you lost?

She walked to the unmarked grave that was her friend's, and laid the flowers on top.
There were no words she could have possibly said that would make the situation better.
Everyone told her it was an accident, but she knew better.

Will I find you again?

It was the perfect day. The sky was the brightest blue she had ever seen, and there wasn't a cloud in sight.
He had insisted that they go out to a party, and just let go.
She agreed.

Are you alone?

They went to the party, drinking themselves silly.
It was, at last, time to go home.
He insisted that she would be okay to drive, it wasn't that far anyway.
If only he knew how wrong he was.

Are you afraid?

She doesn't remember much, but what she does remember, haunts her.
She was driving, even though she shouldn't' have been.
The roads were practically empty, and she was starting to get double vision.
Lights came out of nowhere.
After that it's all a blur.

Are you searching for me?

She woke up in a room so white it hurt her eyes.
Her eyesight was blurry, but she made out three different figures in the room.
They were all speaking in hushed tones.

"She was drunk" one said.

"We can't let anyone know that she was" Said another.

"She'll be devastated."

Why did you go? I had to stay.

She awoke again, this time her vision wasn't blurry.
She was all alone in the bright room.
Her mind was drawing blanks, and it hurt to move in any way.
Her mother came into the room, eyes red and puffy.

"Sweetheart, he's gone."

Now I'm reaching for you.

She sat through the funeral, not speaking a word.
Her mother held her hand the entire time, sobbing.
They lowered him into the ground slowly, and her mother broke down, screaming.
She didn't know what to do, she just walked away.

Will you wait? Will you wait?

A tear escaped from her eye as she recalled the past events leading up to this moment.
It's the first time she's cried in months.
She lays down next to the unmarked grave, wishing someone would put a marker.
She would do anything to go back to that fateful day, and change what she did.
No one deserved to die. Especially not her brother.

Will I see you again?

This was pretty much something I pulled out of my ass when I was listening to a song.
Just for the record, the italicized parts are lyrics from the song. I hope no one gets confused.

Enjoy!
