Charmed and Dangerous

Chapter Two

"Well, that's... umm..." He paused, obviously trying to conjure up a name that suited his sister. Portia jumped off the ground and held her hand out to her mother nervously, "I'm Portia! Nice to meet you!"
Her brother jumped in again, "She's my best friend."
I raised an eyebrow at him before continueing, "Yeah. I came back to the past because I want to help Chris protect Wyatt, if that's okay with you..."
Chris rubbed the back off his neck shooting Portia a look, which Portia tactfully ignored while her mother shook her hand. Her face showed unsurity, "Well, I suppose... I'm Piper. This is Leo, Paige and Phoebe."
Portia couldn't help but blurt her next words with a wide smile, "Oh, I know!" They all gave her quizzical looks and Portia soon realized her slip up. She quickly covered herself before they could grow too suspicious, "Everyone knows of the charmed ones in the future. It's nearly impossible to not know you guys."
She must lie pretty well because they bought it, as far as she could see. She mentally phewed, thinking that was a close one. She wanted to jump into her mother's mind and read what Piper thought of her. Portia wanted to so badly, but she couldn't. She'd been born with the power to read minds but her mother had taught her at a very young age it was an invasion of privacy. She'd promised her she wouldn't do it unless it was absolutely nessesary. Even if she hadn't really promised yet in this time, she still couldn't. She could tell Chris was nervous that they were still suspicious so she turned even more away from him to focus on her family. Leo sighed, "We should probably go downstairs to Wyatt."
Paige reached forward and took Portia's arm, "And we, should take you to change out of those clothes! And to of course show you the room you'll be staying in!"
Portia couldn't help but beam at her aunt. Same old Paige. Paige dragged her downstairs to the second floor and into what was always the guest room. The walls were still the pale yellowish beige Portia had always hated. The curtain's were a nice pristine white. Paige let her go so she could, presumably, grab her some clothes. Portia sat on the bed and reminisced the times she'd hid under the old bed when her mother and her had played hide and seek. The memory was lovely and good. All giggles and laughter with no bad in it at all. She smiled as her eyes closed in happiness at the thought.
"Knock, knock!" Phoebe said in her usual nervously happy voice. She was at the doorway with Paige lurking behind her, holding som clothes. "May we come in?"
Portia chuckled, "Of course! It's your house!"
They stood beside the bed and Portia couldn't help but noticed how different they looked. Phoebe was smiling there in a tank top and pixie haircut with her hands in her back pockets looking very young. Paige looked even younger, her hair a dark brown while she was in a nice shirt and skinny jeans. Portia was taken out of her thoughts when Paige held out a pair of large sweat pants and a undershirt, "They're probably going to be way too big for you, but hopefully it'll do until we can go out shopping!"
She took the pile and grinned, "Thank you!"
"Your welcome, sweetie!" Phoebe smiled. "So are you a witch too?"
"Yeah and part whitelighter..." Portia told them truthfully. This made her think back to her battle in the attic and what happened when she flicked her hands at Wyatt's demon crew. It made her wonder if she was more talented.
Paige frowned, "Like Chris? Damn! There's a lot of us in the future!"
Portia remembered Wyatt's threats of destruction to anyone that insulted half-casts, "Well it's not as frowned apon as it used to be..."
They gave Portia privacy to change after that. The clothes were a little too big but she appreciated the thought and wore them. She padded out of her room and down the hall stopping outside the room she could here whispers in. She pushed the door ajar and poked her head around it. Inside, Chris and her mother were sitting it a camped bed talking. A cot was across from them, and she could see a sleeping toddler through the bars. Piper smiled at her in surprise, "Hello!"
"Hi. Can I join you guys?" Portia asked hopefully.
Piper nodded and gestured to the rocking chair beside the crib, "By all means!" Portia took the chair while Piper was exchanging looks with Chris. Piper smiled, "You have a really pretty name! My mother would love it! She was obsessed with names that begin with a 'P'!"
Portia half-smiled wryly, "Really?"
She loved that her mother was talking to her about her grandma. Even if it was a conversation they'd repeat many times. Eventually, Piper announced that she'd better get to bed and left bidding us all good night. By this time Portia was leaning over the crib and gazing at baby Wyatt, wondering what in the world happened that made this little angel into the devil Portia had grown up with. Chris laid back on his bed and watched his sister. She glanced back at him, "I can't believe this is Mr Evil!"
He shrugged, "Clearly, something happens to him..."
"Yeah," She agreed. "Question is, what?"
Chris sat up so Portia could sit beside him, "I have no clue but we need to find out. Soon."
She sighed, "Why haven't you told them, Chris?"
Chris knew exactly what she meant staight away. Portia could tell Chris was avoiding the subject on purpose. He could be the trickiest person to talk to about emotional things and she could tell he clearly did not want to tell anybody who they really were. Chris ran his hands down his face, "I just can't. I don't want to mess the future up too much. Plus, we're only here to help Wyatt!"
Portia leaned forward and met his eyes straight on, "You and I both know that's not the only reason! You wanted to see her again, admit it!"
He frowned, "We can't get close to her, Porsh! You know that! We're only going to lose her again and if we get close it'll hurt us even more than the first time!"
She shook her head, "I have to know her, Chris! For my sanity, I can't be around her and not tell her! Anyway, shouldn't you be on the way soon..."
"We'll worry about that when the day arrives!" He muttered. "Let's just focus on Wyatt for now!"
Porcia rubbed his back unexpectedly causing him to jump a little, "I'm sorry about Bianca! She was awesome and I know you loved each other!"
He shrugged with a poker face, "At least she's happy now!"
Portia nodded and got up to leave. She kissed his cheek and hugged him before tip toeing to her room. She climbed into the soft bed and smiled softly at the thought of her mother. She turned and looked out the window with her eyes closed.
She fell into a deep sleep after she whispered words she hadn't said in many years.
"Night mom..."
