Save your heart.

Dakota.

*3 days later*

Garrett called me at 9 am. 9 AM! I hated waking up at 9.30, and taking 30 minutes away from my sleep sounded like hell to me.

"Don't you like to sleep?" I answered the phone.
"Shut up. I'll be there in 20 minutes, it's important."
"You're gonna pay for this, Nickelsen."
"Come on! I'll buy you breakfast on my way there, what do you want?"
"Some churros and a chocolate milkshake, please." I said standing up and looking at myself in the mirror. What a face, "one day my under eye circles will cover my entire face" I thought.
"Ooooooookay!"
"See you."
"Bye."

I had 20 minutes to get ready, enough time. I threw my cellphone to my bed, and washed my face. I applied concealer in my under eyes, and opened my wardrobe. I decided I'd wear last day's jeans, and a black-sleeved baseball T-Shirt, the same color of my Converse. I put my hair up in a ponytail and walked downstairs. Dakota was still sleeping, as she usually woke up at 9.45 and it was 9.15. I hated Garrett for this, what in hell was so important? And why does he need me? But well, at least he was bringing breakfast. I thought I'd forgive him. I forgive with food, and he was bringing amazing food. Churros and chocolate. My mouth was watering.

I heard a car coming, and I looked out of the window. It was Garrett, so I picked up a leather jacket in case it cooled down, and got out.
"I hate you." I fastened my seat belt.
"Oh, wow! You have ears!" He said, joking. I rarely put my hair up in ponytails.
"Shut up and tell me why do you need me." He started driving again.
"Well...you know Dakota and I have been almost a year together...and I don't know what to buy her. And maybe you knew, so..."
"I see..."
"So?"
"I think better while eating."
"Oh, yeah, your breakfast." He handed me a paper bag, and apart from the things I asked for, there were some chocolate elephant ears.
"Are these for me, too?" I said, happily. Garrett nodded his head, smiling. "Thank you, thank you, thank you Garrett! I hate you a little less now." I said smiling.
"I knew you'd like it." He said.

The food was delicious. I didn't know where he had bought the pastries, but they were to die for. And the milkshake had little chocolate pieces, I loved it!

"Maybe you can buy her a ring..." I said.
"Jess, Dakota does not wear jewelery."
"Oh, yeah, right. What about a pair of shoes?"
"Since when are shoes something special?"
"I don't know..." I said shrugging my shoulders.
"Maybe you aren't that helpful..." He said laughing.

We went past a tattoo shop and I shouted.
"A TATTOO!"
"On her?"
"Park right here."

He parked the car in the nearest parking lot.

"Look. You can get a tattoo of something...but you have to think it has to be easy to cover...just in case...you know."
"I like it!" He scratched his chin. "I hope I don't have to cover it up with another tattoo." He said smiling.
"Let's hope...but you never know..."

We walked to the tattoo shop, but before going in, Garrett stopped.
"Wait." He said.
"Why?"
"You have to get a tattoo, too."
"I would if I knew what to get, really." I'd always liked tattoos, but what would I get? I had no specific reason.
"Mmmm...I don't know..." He rested his head on the wall, outside the shop.

I had been thinking for a while, when an idea came up on my mind. My family -parents and brother- called me Jay, so...why not? That could be something to remind me that I have to go on, not to get stuck in the past.

"I think I know what to get..." I said.
"Okay! Let's go." Said Garrett, hugging me from one side, opening the door to get in.

Garrett was the first to get tattooed. He got a tattoo on his instep, where you could read "Double Trouble"; the name of the place -bar- where Dakota and him met. I got my tattoo on my hand, between my thumb and index finger. People, maybe could think it was my boyfriend's name or something, but I didn't care, I wanted the tattoo to be visible, so that I could see it everyday.

We paid, got out and got in the car.
"It's only 11 am and we're already done. If I knew, I wouldn't have picked up the phone."
"I have a meeting with the guys, so you have no choice, you gotta come."
"I'm gonna get bored."
"John will be there..." He said laughing. Fine, it seems like you can't hang out with a boy without liking him. Well, truth is I kinda liked him, but we were just hanging out as friends.
"I know who you are in the band with..." I'd been 3 days thinking of him, and I'd like to hang out more, just to know him a little more...

We arrived at the coffee place, and Kennedy and Pat were already there.

"It's you!" Said Pat.
"Yeah, it's me..." I said, waving, smiling.
"Take my seat." Kennedy said. "I'll take another."
"Oh, no, I'll take..."
"It doesn't matter." He said smiling, taking another chair. How nice of him.

We talked until Jared and John arrived.
"Look who's here!" Said Jared.
"Hello." John said. I could see he was surprised to see me there, but he didn't say a thing. He nodded off, saying hello, I guess. His lips said a silent "hi" and he smiled at me. I smiled. And that's the moment I realized that yes, I was falling in love.

The boys started talking about things about the band. I didn't pay attention, so I don't know what exactly they talked about. I was getting really bored, but luckily, the meeting lasted a bit less than 20 minutes, because Jared and Kennedy had to leave.

"I'll pay the drinks now." Said Pat to John, Garrett and me. He ordered two beers and two juices. You can imagine who drank what.
"Before coming here Jess and I got tattoos." Said Garrett, smiling and taking a sip of his drink.
"They're small..." I said.
"Wow, what are they?" Asked John.
"The name of the bar where I met Dakota...you know...next week is our first anniversary."
"Oh, and what's yours, Jessie?" Said Pat.
"Jay..."
"Jay?"
"My parents called me Jay and so does my brother..." I half-smiled.
John and Pat smiled. We talked for some more time, until Pat left.

"I'm coming in a minute." Said Garrett, answering the phone and getting out of the coffee-place. He came back in a couple of minutes, saying he had to leave. "I'm sorry, but I have to leave, my brother needs me." He said HE had to leave. What about me?
"Okay." Said John.
"John, could you please drive Jessie home?"
"No problem." Said John, smiling.
Garrett left and John and me stayed.
