Personal Soldier

Tell me what's going on. I know there's something on your mind.

So it'd been just over a month since I last saw or even heard from Nathan but today Karen, Jess, two of Jess's mates and I are going to see The Wanted performing at a Cheltenham Racecourse. I'm sooo excited!!
Clambering into the front seat of the car, I fastened my seatbelt and soon enough we set off. We'd been driving for about 10 minutes before I started to get tired. I was never at my best when travelling. I tried my hardest to stay awake by looking through old pictures on my phone but it was no good. I could feel mu eyes falling together as the chatter from Jess and her friends soon turned into hushed mumbles and darkness took over.

"Lucie! Luce, Wake up!" A gentle whispered ringed softly through my ears as my eyes fluttered open only to be met by Jess's face inches off mine. "We're here" she smiled. Sitting up, a little too quickly may I add, I looked around. There was a massive queue of girls stood in a line outside the gates of the racecourse. A slight grin crossed my face knowing they were all here to see my best friend. I jumped out the car and tucked my shirt into my shorts before we started the walk to the doors.
Jess and her friends walked ahead as Karen and I trailled behind.
"You're awfully quiet" Karen laughed. Turning to look at her, I tried to force a smile on my face.
"Yeah, you know...just tired" I smiled as we approached the queue. I went to stand behind the girls that seemed to be at the end.
"Don't be ridiculous!" Jess laughed at me, running up and grabbing my hand.
"What?" I questioned furrowing my eyebrows.
"We're family of Nathan Sykes from The Wanted!! We don't do queues" She winked leading us up to the front where we were met by a tall, bald man.
"Mrs Sykes!" He smiled shaking Karens hand. "We've been waiting for you"

----------------------------

The halls were long but extremely narrow. Not what I'd expected considering 'The Wanted' were playing here. The walls painted white, it was almost like they were closing in around me. It was quiet and the only noise filling the air was that of our footsteps. Each closing the space between Nath and I. My breaths became shorter and more frequent as we approached the door at the end. This had been the longest period of time Nathan and I had ever spent apart but I still wasn't sure why I was so nervous but the butterflies in my stomach battered around until it almost became unbarable! The security guard pushed the door open. I let Karen, Jess and her friends go in first. Afterall they were family. My eyes scanned the room quickly taking in every last detail. There were two men sitting on the sofa one was bald and muscular, the other was smaller than the first and had black hair. My eyes looking around for the next person, secretly hoping it'd be Nathan. There was another man by the window, he was tall, handsome. It had to be said he had amazing cheekbones!! And lastly there was another guy sitting by himself on a table not far from the doorway of which I still stood in. He was unnaturally pale, his eyes bright blue standing out from beneth the brown curly hair that occasionally fell infront of them. He looked over at me. My eyes darting away trying not to make any eye contact.
"Lucie, right?" I heard a male voice speak from my left hand side. I turned to see the curly man, sliding off the table and walking towards me. He was taller than I'd thought.
"Eh...hi?" I stuttered, confused as to why he knew me.
"I've heard a lot about you" he beamed "..Jay"
He held his hand out as I shook it.
"Hi Jay" I laughed trying to seem less awkward.
Minutes passed as Jay and I both stood face to face, not a word spoken.
"I'm sorry" I apologised, breaking the silence "I'm such an awkward person. I'm really not good at this stuff."
Jay laughed and let out a loud sigh. "Me too!" he smirked as we both burst into fits of laughter. Just at that moment I felt a burning sensation on the side of my body. Like someone was observing my every move. Turning slowly, weary of how I'd known someone was watching, there he stood. The red baseball cap I'd bought him for his birthday sat firmly on his head. His fringe carefully placed slightly to the right. A huge grin spread across my face, I was half expecting one on his too but his face stayed the same. No emotion, no expression, Nothing. His eyes looking straight through me as he turned away and walked towards his Mum.

A part of me died that day.
My best friend who I hadn't seen in 5 weeks just completely ignored me. I could feel tears building up behind my eyes. A lump had developed in my throat as I tried to keep myself together. I turned back round to look at Jay.
"I don't know what his problem is today." he smiled sympatheticly, obviously seeing straight through my front.
"I'd be a massive liar if I said that didn't hurt" I smiled. Tears threatning to spill over even at the thought of it.
"Fancy a walk?" Jay asked, holding out his arm. I smiled, linking mine with his as we walked out the room and down the corridor. Little did I realise that'd be the last time I'd see him for a very long time. The look on his face still burning behind my eyelids.
