Hidden Tales

Prologue

*Ring Ring*

“You should probably answer that, Haley. We don’t need little Aaron Hotchner worrying just yet, right?” his words came out of his mouth, sounding so soothing, but frightening.

Haley pressed the green button, trying to wipe her tears away. “Hi Aaron,”

“Haley, where are you and Kallie?” was the first and only question that concerned Aaron at this moment. He wanted to hear that she was miles away from all of this, but with the recent victim found, he knew it was unlikely.

She swallowed hard and looked towards the man. She was afraid of saying the wrong thing and getting herself and her daughter murdered.

“Oh Aaron, they’re safe with me!” he grinned maniacally.

Aaron’s heart dropped to the bottom of his stomach. He was expecting something horrible, but this was worse than he could have imagined. A man who has murdered over thirty people is now in the same room as his wife and daughter.

“Haley, are you okay?” he asked, tears starting to fall down his cheeks. Haley looked towards the man and wiped her own tears away. “I’m okay, Aaron,” she whispered, more tears falling down her cheeks.

“Where’s Kallie?” Aaron asked, not hearing her voice at all. He suddenly heard her sigh, which caused a small wave of relief to flow through his body.

“I’m fine, Dad,” Kallie responded as she starts pacing around the room, thinking of any way to get her and her mother out of their current situation.

“She’s a huge bundle of nerves, Aaron. The girl just won’t sit down and relax. Must be a Hotchner thing, I guess,” the man’s response caused Kallie to emit a low growl, but she tried her best to ignore his comment.

“Kallie,” her dad’s voice grabbed her attention, and forced her to look towards the cell phone.

“Don't let this bastard get to you. Remember what you learned in training. Remember what I told you,” Aaron took a moment to say those words. He knew what he was telling her to do, and he knew what he was asking. He was asking her to take control of the situation at hand, to watch out for both her and Haley, and for her to get rid of the same guy who has been haunting him for two years.

“Alright, Daddy,” she sighed, a tear escaping her eyes. She wiped them away as quick as they came, trying not to show any signs of weakness. She knew what she was getting in to, and she knew she had to be strong: for her mom, and especially for her dad.

“Awe, how sweet!" he exclaimed, pretending to wipe a tear away. Kallie glared at him and slowly started to prepare herself. "Now say goodbye, kids. We have a few matters to discuss before "daddy" gets home," he chuckled menacingly, causing all three Hotchners.

"Aaron.. I… I love you. So much," Haley tried her hardest to not break down, but she fell apart. At the sound of her crying, Aaron started breaking down.

"I love you too, Haley. And I'm sorry… for everything, and anything, and for this," Aaron sobbed, pacing around in his office. He knew a few different pairs of eyes were watching him, but he didn't care. His life was in the hands of a twisted bastard, and he wasn't able to get to them.

“It’ll be okay, dad. It’ll all be over soon,” Kallie reassured not just her dad and mom, but herself also. She continued to wipe away the tears and tried thinking of one thing, safety.

“I love you, Kallie. I’m so proud of you. I always have been,” Aaron cried more. He kept thinking of what she said, and wondered. Was he ready for his loving family; his loving wife, and his loving daughter, to be "over"?

“I know Daddy. I love you, too,” she took a deep breath and tried to mentally prepare herself for what she knew was about to happen.

“Goodbye, Daddy Hotchner,” was the last thing Aaron heard before the call ended. Aaron threw his phone across his office and ran out of the door of his office.

"Please tell me we got a trace on that prick's location," Hotch boomed as he ran down the steps as he scanned the room. Everyone was already geared up, knowing they needed to leave. "They're… they're at your house," Morgan sighed, which made everyone nervous. Aaron pointed out the door, and everyone ran after him.

Everyone jumped into vehicles, Hotch already pulling out before they started the cars. He knew how crucial time was, especially in this case. This wasn't just hostages, these were the two most important people to him. He put on the siren and drove 110mph down the road, continually muttering to himself.

“God, I hope I’m not too late.”
