One Day

1/1

“One day I’ll buy us the biggest house you’ve ever seen,” he promised.
“One day we’ll see every corner of this globe.”
“One day I’ll take you away from this.”
“One day it’ll be just you and me.”

He couldn’t have known what was to happen; if he did he wouldn’t have lied.
If either of us knew what would happen we’d have made our getaway long ago.
If we’d have known I wouldn’t be the one making these false promises.
If we’d have known things would be different.

“One day I’ll fix this,” I promise.
“One day we’ll find a way to escape this.”
“One day we will see the world.”
“One day you’ll hold me again.”
“One day I’ll fix you.”

The heart monitor goes on endlessly giving simple responses to my promises. Never ceasing in it’s beeping, for now. It won’t be long though, it’ll be silent soon.

“One day; just not in this life time.”

One day; beep. One day; beep. One; beep. Day; beep.
