Vampires

What could we do? The screams were clear. They pierced the cold night sky that was highlighted by the deadly element. I stripped of my coat and bolted inside dispute the firefighters calls. The smoke was heavy and burned my eyes. I could turn back now if I wanted but the drive for survival was irrelevant as I climbed the stone steps that led to the top. Further and further i went, flames licked the walls but stayed put as I past my floor and kept going. The cries were drowned out by the roar of the fire. The heat was unbearable. Sweat poured off me but I didn't hesitate. I kicked a door down to where i guessed the person would be and there they were. They lay on the floor as if dead. I came closer and began speaking but it seemed less then a whisper as the flames kept on their dancing and games.

"Hello?" I kneeled beside them and brushed my hand over their shoulder, they slowly, oh so slowly rolled over to reveal a familiar face, then it went dark.
